“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2010

We booked a suite which was well worth the extra money as our daughter was able to use the 'lounge' as a bedroom. The rooms were a good size with a useful kitchenette although it would have been useful to have a kettle. Staff were helpful although the entrance lobby is rather small and the number of lifts is barely adequate for the number of rooms. The hotel offers a very good value continental style buffet breakfast with a good choice of food. Location is excellent being very close to Carnegie Hall. Nearby restaurants are on the expensive side but if you walk to the east there are cheaper places and delis.

When we went to see our travel agent to book our trip, she highly recommended this hotel for its location. She explained that the hotel itself is a little old and run down but the rooms were of great size and were all we would need. Upon arrival we found she gave us the perfect description. The hotel is definatley not like any other we have stayed at as we are used to the big lobby / grand entrance type feel.

The entrance area is very small and the front desk was small and only consisted of 2 staff, which means you do need to wait a little longer. The rooms are very large consisting of a kitchenette, lounge room with sofa and dining table, large bedroom with ensuite and flat screen tvs. The decor is definately outdated (except for the tv's) but I guess with the price you pay, something's gotta give? When you are in New York there is so much to do that you really don't spend all that much time in your hotel room. If you are looking for something in a great location, spacious and secure, I definately recommend this hotel. You are only a few blocks from Central Park and 5th Avenue shops. We also walked to broadway on a few occasions and found it to be a great walk. There is a starbucks opposite the hotel (great for a morning coffee and bagel) and multiple restaurants surrounding. The hotel apparently does offer a breakfast but we never needed to try it with all of the options surrounding us.

If you want a grand 5-star experience, this isn't it. However, this hotel is clean, the staff are nice, you feel secure and you are in the a perfect position - all for a very reasonable price.

Great hotel for a reasonable price. Very well located in a quiet street close to Central Park, walking distance to Times Square, with a subway station round the corner, various restaurants, pubs and food/beer shops down the road. The staff is really friendly and accomodating, the rooms (we had one with 2 double beds for 2 of us) are fantastic, beds are really comfy, with a flat screen with cable tv (very handy for the world cup when we went). Shower could be better (not a big fan of showering in a bath but that might just be me, still nothing to complain about really), tea and coffee facilities in the room, safe and enough storage room if you're going on business. Breakfast is well worth is for an extra $6 a head, nice buffet if you're bored of having it on the go.
All in all, got to be the best value for money hotel out there, and even if you take the value part out of it, it remains a very very good hotel.

When we booked the Salisbury (after reading the reviews here), we expected a clean, safe hotel in Midtown Manhattan for the night prior to our cruise out of New York. We were so pleased to find that the Salisbury was this and more. The rooms were large and comfortable, and the front desk personnel were courteous and helpful. the location was great - walking distance to cental park and the theater district. There was a failry extensive sit-down continental breakfast (wide variety of pastries, waffles, hardboiled eggs, cereal, fruit, coffee, milk, and juice) which we found to be a good value at $6. We definitely plan to stay here again next tiem we are in New York

I was a little bit afraid of staying here because of the wide variety of ratings. The Sailisbury ended up being just what I hoped for. A clean hotel, at a great price, in the perfect location.
I am not sure what the naysayers were expecting. They are obviously not familiar with NYC or it's prices. The hotel is old and dated a bit. It is clean and in a safe neighborhood right in the heart of midtown. You are within walking distance of several great attractions. It is easy to get a cab from 57th and the subway is right next to the hotel on both 6th and 7th. The rooms are large for NYC which is a plus with kids. When I plan on spending alot of time at a hotel, i.e. a beach resort I want new and modern. When in NYC I want a safe clean place to sleep after I enjoy the city all day. You don't go to NYC to hang out in the hotel. I will definitely stay there again.

This hotel was awful! It was really old and outdated. I wish I had spent a little more and stayed at a nicer hotel. The staff was unfriendly and rude upon our arrival. The hotel has very few amenities and it's only saving grace is that it is in a beautiful location. I would not stay here again.

I have just returned from a 6-night stay at the Salisbury, and I was very pleased with this hotel. I was fortunate enough to find a $109 per night rate on Hotels.com in March. I thought maybe we would get a less desirable room since we'd booked through a third party, but we were give a large room with 2 beds and a kitchenette (microwave, fridge, sink) on the 11th floor. The bathroom was dated, but very clean, and the room overall was a little dated and worn, but also very clean. Our room was in the back of the hotel, and we did not hear any noise at all. The $6 breakfast was basic, with bagels, muffins, toast, waffles, cereal, juice, milk, hard-boiled eggs and a small bowl of diced fruit, (mostly apples), but it was a quick and convenient way to start the day. They place a voucher under your door every morning, and you turn it in when you eat, and you are charged at the end of your stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, although when I had computer problems while trying to print my boarding pass, the desk clerk seemed unable or unwilling to help solve the problem. Not a big deal; I would not hesitate to stay at the Salisbury again.
