“Christmas and New Year at the Hilton Double Tree Guest Suites - Times Square”
Reviewed 3 January 2014 via mobile

I booked the double tree in May 2013 based on positive trip advisor reviews. We stayed on the 41st floor for 14 nights with our four children.

The room was well equipped and the cleaning service was spot on; clean tools, clean bed linen, clean everything which is hard to keep on top of with young children.

The staff from the doormen to reception and maintenance were extremely helpful. There were issues with the internet over our holiday and each time it was resolved within 30-45mins.

Location is prime and I'm certain this is the biggest selling point of the hotel, though be careful at New Years as you are not guaranteed a view of the ball drop from expensive room rates. We were extremely lucky and the NYPD let us slip into the pen at 10.45pm.

The only negative I could highlight is from my two experiences the food was not up to much (average).

Overall a very good hotel designed for the hustle and bustle of Times Square and Broadway with very helpful and friendly staff.

Great location, great service, great food. The best dining I’ve ever experienced - from check-in to seating to service. Fresh breakfast buffet. Clean, spacious rooms and professional, courteous staff. Despite undergoing lobby renovations, it was still a smooth and excellent experience.

Room Tip: There are 43 floors. Spectacular views of Times Square from our floor (24th). I would definitely rec...

I have stayed at the Double Tree Times Square in NYC five times - and always feel 'at home' when I am there! Best location & accommodations to be found in NYC at a reasonable price. Great service, friendly staff and wonderful views of Times Square. I can't say enough about this fabulous hotel -- AND CAN'T WAIT TO GO AGAIN!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a Times Square view when you book your reservation -- worth the little extra cos...

We were traveling to New York for a vacation with three teenagers on Christmas Eve. We stayed 3 nights in a suite. It was plenty big enough for a family of five. Lobby under construction, but it was no problem. Door men were great, getting us into cabs for three days. We also used the subway system and it was right next to the hotel. All I can say is the crowds were out of control, so I was glad we were leaving a few days before NYE. This hotel is about location, location, location. Great for families.

Room Tip: Go further up and you get great views of times square.

Our first visit to NYC so we thought we would place ourselves in the centre.

We booked a large conference room on the 39th floor so we had lots of space and fabulous views. The cookies are a bonus too, especially when fresh.

Obviously it is very busy in the surrounding area (it is Times Square!) We we were quickly able to navigate around. Subway is close and no problem hailing taxi's for us.

Overall, an expensive treat. Great introduction to NYC.

Tried to check into this hotel at 3pm today. Massive line to check in, lobby a complete mess. Check in is at 3 so thought fair enough- I will go for a walk and let them sort things out. Came back at 5. Same massive line. Asked for a manager and when he was finally found I asked to simply cancel my reservation. Told it wasnt possible because I booked through a 3rd party.

A place that needs to get you on terms and conditions because their service is so horrible is not a place worth staying. I will not stay here again and will avoid Hilton brands were possible. I travel often but this is the first time I have EVER written a review-- the service is just that bad. Stay away

Just returned from a 4 night stay with the wife and kid over New Years Eve and had to review this place because they are so good yet so bad at the same time so I wanted to summarize so you can judge what is important to you.

Significant Pros
1) LOCATION. The location in the middle of Time Square is unreal. You are literally swept away by the crowd from the moment you exit the revolving doors of the hotel. If this is what you want, there is no beating this place.
2) SOUNDPROOF. I have never stayed in such a soundproof hotel in NYC. 4 nights in the middle of New Years Eve and not a peep can be heard with the windows closed. Heavy doors, solid walls and windows were virtually impenetrable to sound waves.
3) LARGE ROOMS. By NY City standards these rooms are huge.

Significant Cons
1) CROWDS. Forget about being able to hail a cab without walking several blocks away from Time Square. Can't park, can't find Doormen when trying to check in.
2) HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT. The room was at least 80 degrees or higher at all times. Your thermostat in the room is just for show, we had it set at 60 the whole time and were uncomfortably tossing and turning hot all night long every night.
3) BOUNCY BED. Not sure if we had an unrenovated room or what, but the bed was pretty low quality, bouncy.
4) INTERNET UNRELIABLE. On 2 of our 4 days, the internet was down for several hours, usually at check in time and early evening. Front desk didn't want to be bothered about the internet being down, nor did they offer anything useful other than..."yeah it's down right now."
5) RENOVATIONS. Renovations to the lobby seemed to make the check in process a disaster with crowds.

I don't consider this a significant con, but I did want to mention there is not a soda machine in the entire building. You do have a refrigerator in the room, so to get beverage in your room, you need to plan ahead, walk a few blocks to the nearest duane reade and lug it back to your room through time square crowds.

All in all, we had a good trip, but the cons were too many and interfered with our ability to sleep because of the heat and subpar bed. I am pretty sure we will choose a different hotel on our next trip but it was not so bad that I would talk anyone out of it if they wanted to be in Time Square.
