“Giving Thanks for a Great Hotel Experience”
Reviewed 27 November 2011

My best friend and I decided to meet in NYC for a Thanksgiving celebration weekend. The service at 70 Park was impeccable. We stayed three nights and by the end of the first night, were greeted by name by the bellman and hotel host. The concierge was excellent, taking the time to listen to our question, understand our goals for the "outing" and then providing outstanding recommendations. The furnishings were lush and sophisticated and looked new and well-cared for. This is in a prime location, between 39th and 38th Streets. It is quiet yet beautiful. Another bonus that made our stay special was the "raid the bar" coupon. That was fun! The one opportunity for improvement is some of the cleaning of the caulking in the bathrooms. I know this is in an older, historic building, but some of the tile caulking needed a little more elbow grease! The price point was very affordable for the location. Will stay there again soon!

Having stayed in NYC a lot and tried several hotels we thought we'd try this one. We wern't dissapointed. Staff were very helpful, the hotel was clean and bright and had a nice feeling to it. Rooms were very small but this is typicall for New York. The decor in the rooms were to a high standard, very modern and trendy with "all mod cons" such as an iPod docking station and huge flat screen TV. The free wine reception every evening went down very well too!Located 2 or 3 blocks from Grand Central it was a great location. We'd try another Kimpton property in New York again next time as they are to a good standard and you know whet to expect.

We stayed at 70 Park Avenue for 4 nights in November. I honestly don't have a bad thing to say.

The rooms are small but all I need is a comfy bed, a nice view, a big TV and a decent bathroom - our room (1604) had all these things. I can imagine in the summer it may get a bit hot and the air con is a bit noisy but for us it was perfect, when we got too warm we simply opened the window and because we were so high up the noise from Park Avenue was not a problem.

The wine reception in the evenings is a really lovely touch, as is the free coffee, tea and hot choc (with marshmallows!) in the mornings. Little things like that made the hotel extra-special in my eyes. Also the conceirge was really helpful and recommended a couple of great places for breakfast and lunch!

We had no trouble storing our luggage on our final day, as our flight was not until the evening. Checking in and out was very easy and again the staff were ever courteous and friendly.

I don't think I need to rave about the location because anyone can see from a map that it is perfect for exploring uptown and downtown. Central park is a block away, as is the bus to the airport. There are also plenty and nice places to eat nearby that don't cost the earth.

We booked through lastminute.com so got a bargain on the room - £600 for 4 nights. Not sure how much it would be to book direct but the hotel does have a great loyalty programme that I may look into for future stays!

Overall, fantastic place and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Room 1604 was really great, we had a view of the Empire State building and when we had the window op...

Five days in New York and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. Superbly located in a very pleasant area minutes from most attractions. Our room was spacious, clean, modern and very comfortable. Facing Park Ave we could look out over the church opposite and Grand Central Station off to the left. We ate and drank in the hotel bar the first night which was good with a great atmosphere but with so many restaurants and bars close by, we were out most other nights. The wine tasting between 5 & 6pm was greatly appreciated, either on return from trudging around the shops or prior to going off to see a show. On request, they even provided a coffee machine for our bedroom. Iced water was always available in reception as well as coffee in reception each morning. And then, on top of all of this, my wife and myself were celebrating birthdays whilst there and a cake and bottle of Cava was placed in our room, fantastic. Thanks Kimpton Hotels for giving us a great and memorable holiday.

Room Tip: High floors are quiet, over 38 st you see the Empire State Building. Book a King size room.

Overall the general appearance of the hotel is not as modern and happening as other Kimpton proerties in New York. It was obviously a make over of an existing hotel. The lobby is small and not as cool as others. However, the rooms are great. Very nicely decorated and rather roomy for New York. The service is what you would expect from Kimpton, professional and always top notch. Was quiet and not bothered by frequent door slamming as occurs in other hotels. The location was pretty decent. Trying to get a cab was a bit more challenging than other hotels stayed at. it was close enought to Grand Central you could walk and catch a subway. I still prefer Ink48 for personal visits as I have more time and not as concerned with the location and having to be on a schedule. For business, i would stay here given its cental location.
