Just returned from a visit to New York and stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. It had a great location. Close to the hustle and bustle of Times Square (15 minute walk) and Madison Avenue. But, located on a quiet residential street. The rooms were small, but very clean and relaxing. The staff was awesome! All were extremely helpful and friendly. They had ice cold water in the lobby at all hours and a really nice reception every evening. Would stay here again without a second thought! Special shout out to Hector! Loved the stories!

I wanted to stay in a boutique hotel and have stayed in one of the other Kimpton properties and was very satisfied. This New York City hotel is in the middle of being renovated. My second floor Park Ave street view window had scaffolding in front. It looked like an unfinished balcony outside the window. Needless to say, the noise level was relatively quiet which impressed me. The noise outside my door was much worse. My daughter's room, 210 was horrible. The windows were blacked out, hence making the room seem smaller, and apparently the hotel AC noise outside their "window" was unbearable in addition to the noise from the room AC. Therefore, I classify this as an "old boutique" hotel. They will need to do a lot of remodeling in order for this property to be on par with their others (I stayed at the Salt Lake City property). Housekeeping was skimpy on the soap but the linen was clean and soft. The phones did not work when we tried to call reception or housekeeping. I think Kimpton can be able to upgrade this particular property to be a really nice hotel in a quiet location on Park Avenue.

Room Tip: Book rooms on the higher floors, at least above the 3rd floor

Stayed here in December 09 for 9 days, fantastic time to go just before Christmas. Room was lovely, clean with great views of the Empire State Building. Location people didn't like but we thought it was fine not that far from Time Square less than a minute away from Grand Central Station. The thing I would say is your never in your room so even though we loved this hotel I'd say book a cheaper hotel.

I have stayed at many Kimpton locations nationally as well as in NYC and this is likely one of my favorites. Super friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are quiet and well appointed. If you're back in time, the happy hour is always a nice touch and the price is tolerable for Manhattan. Like almost all NYC hotels, rooms, and particularly bathrooms, are small. We found the noise level to be low in our room which was at the end of the corridor and we had a touch of natural light on the 10th floor.

Not all boutique, smaller hotels in the city are this nice at this price point. Love the convenience of being just 2 block from Grand Central which means that, as a tourist, you have convenient subway connections all across town but not exposed to the noise of 42nd Street. While this trip wasn't for business, the hotel location is close to many office properties on Park and Madison Avenues.

My second time here in 3 years. I booked because I had business at the Carlton and remembered this property fondly. But previously I had a suite and now, just a room. Small, needs refurbishment. There are no restaurants in the hotel but plenty nearby and a small coffee bar/lounge that's not good. The people have the Kimpton attitude which is great but the property is low end if the chain.

We go to NYC often and have always stayed at other hotels. This was our first time without a car and thus had total flexibility on where to stay. We tried the Kimpton because of its location and it was a great surprise. They were so nice in every regard and the room was noticeably larger than in previous hotels. I also love the fact that the use of WIFI is complimentary. This is such a turnoff in many NYC hotels and I now refuse to stay somewhere where they charge for the internet. I know from my work that hotels used to make a huge amount of money on telephone charges. Now that everyone travels with a cell phone, they are looking for alternative sources of revenue and many hotels try to gouge their customers with internet changes. I urge you to rebel and refuse to stay in NYC hotels that charge for the use of the internet. I should be part of anyone's stay in this century!!!

Decent hotel near Grand Central Station. Not a whole lot else in that area if you are dining alone! Nice enough room if pretty small - tub was the smallest I have ever seen in a hotel room, including in NYC.

Wine in the evening was a nice touch - as was getting a mini bar voucher if you are a member of the Kimpton loyalty scheme.

Only downside was that the street noise was quite loud in the morning and evening.

Room Tip: Get a high floor room. The street crossroads was noisy.
