“So Great!”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

I stayed here for two days, this hotel was so great . It was pretty clean and style was pretty modern. People in this hotel was very nice. The room is big and the location is near the Grand Central and you can go anywhere you want by the train. It is very convenient.

The hotel is next to the true centre of town the Grand Central Station. The rooms are quite big. Sometimes they could be cleaner (I stayed there several times). What let's me come back is the location - I also love the Deli in the hotel lobby - you can all you need 24 hours. The bar and restaurant has excellent food and a very nice selection of American and European vine.

Dear G S,
Thank you so much for choosing Grand Hyatt New York for your stay in November 2013, and for your helpful feedback. I agree that we have a wonderful location directly next to Grand Central and that our food and beverage options in our 24 hour Market on the lobby level and NY Central restaurant are excellent. I have shared your notes about the cleanliness of our guest rooms with our Director of Housekeeping to ensure that they do not happen again on your net visit with us.

Sincerely,

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for my fiftieth medical school class reunion. It has been many years since I last stayed at a "factory hotel." The Grand Hyatt was remarkably competent if expensive for what it is. I chose to stay on concierge floor in a deluxe room that included club privileges. At close to $500 a night including taxes the room was less than I expected it to be. Nicely decorated in warm browns and beige with a comfortable bed. There was a single not particularly comfortable chair and a chaise lounge that was just uncomfortable. Excellent TV and a box that purported to be a clock radio and iPod docking station. Unfortunately despite a curt set of instructions I could never get it to work and it had the old 26 pin apple connector that was no longer relevant. An in room safe with no instructions. Had to call security for directions.

Nice sized closet with iron/board and good hangers. A refrigerator but no contents/minibar. Not even a bottle of drinking water.
(cheesy) in a rack rate 449+ room. Very limited amenities of a nondescript kind. Poorly lit bathroom with a shower with a poor shower head, Basically a handheld on a slide. No seat in shower and no tub. Low water pressure but on the thirty second floor. A robe and OK towels.

Good and secure door lock but interestingly the in room compendium had a section on safety and security that was devoid of any content.

Not a magazine like Where or New York or anything else to be found. Wall Street Journal delivered in AM. I would have preferred NYT but no one asked.

The room was clean and maid service was prompt And thorough. Concierge service was excellent. They arranged transportation to and from airport and put it on bill. Worked perfectly. Concierge very helpful with information. E check in flawless. Phone checkout smooth. Receipts emailed promptly. Elevator service fast and smooth. The hotel is remarkably quiet at night. Food in the bar was good and reasonable. Food in the "market " was fair and there is no place to sit.

Club had a decent breakfast but marginal snacks other times of day. Honor bar for drinks but locked up much of the time. Room is nice and has an outdoor terrace but employees are non communicative. Not very welcoming but serviceable.

Location above grand central terminal seemed attractive but in practice offers little. Nothing is close to the hotel and have to take taxis or subway everywhere. Taxi wait lines can be verylong at critical times. Door personnel do have available private cars at hand. As a former New Yorker I gave up taxis the first day bought a metro card and used the subway and did very well. Local restaurants mostly fast food. No decent shopping nearby. Some shops in Grand Central.

Clearly the hotel is the destination. It functions remarkably well in that way. But it is all business and no frills. As I said above not a luxury hotel. Good at what it does but not much more.

We stayed in this hotel as part of package so we cant comment on price, this place was central, lively and spacious. Right in the heart of the city, next door to Grand Central and about 15min walk from Times Sqaure. Loving the little pieces of art in the lobby area, check in was smooth and we got a room in the 19th floor. The room looked fresh and clean, beds are small for a double but very comfy for a good nights sleep. They should change the base of the bed though, the corners stick out inconveniently and we walked into it a few times and gave us bruises OUCH. Didn't really have a view as we faced a wall of the Grand Central. Bathroom was small, would be crowded if two people were inside.. the shower/bath was powerful and hot. The room also had a fridge which was good to keep our drinks cold. The wifi apparently only works in the lobby and not in the room but we manage to get some thankfully. How can you not have free wifi in a modern hotel?! The lobby was a good place to chill though as there is lots of comfy sofa's for everyone.

Service was mostly good, the concierge desk were helpful and friendly on organizing tickets and info for bus tours. They had a 24 hour market downstairs that does snacks and drinks which is handy, there is also a restaurant downstairs aswell which we had dinner at in the first night. Dinner service was abit slow and didn't have much atmosphere, why are the waiters all on the mature side?! Food was delicious though, we ordered pork chops and steaks. Portions as you know would be massive, I wont go into details about the restaurant as this review is about the hotel. I think there are plenty of restaurant out there, we just ate in for convenience and because of the weather.

The only incident which really bothered us was when phoned housekeeping the first day for extra towels, cups and cutlery for the room, we waited about 30 mins and it never came so we called again, they said we were next on the "list". We gave up and headed out, when we came back later that evening.. it still was not there so we decided wouldn't bother asking again.

Overall I had a good experiance in this hotel, my stay was too short to go into detail about it all. This hotel needs a little something to stand out more from the others to tempt us back though.

Super location right above Grand Central Terminal - means trains to practically anywhere in NY area or tri state! Super pricey, room small for the price - even for Manhattan. Very good breakfast restaurant - extremely expensive - but yes, we are in Manhattan in midtown! Walking distance to grocery, drug, pharmacy, etc. Many many restaurants within walking distance. Super grand lobby - one of the best I've seen - super busy all the time. The lounge (platinum guest) was actually a great place to unwind or have a business meeting.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Lexington Ave and above floor 35

This is a hotel with an excellent location. It is situated at 42nd street and next to the Grand Central Station. Our room is around 300 sq. ft yet the bathroom is dingy. It is barely around 30 sq.ft. with the loo squished in between the shower door and the vanity and you can hardly move around without bumping at something. The housekeeping service is not consistent depending who is servicing I suppose. The first day, the chambermaid even forgot to clear the garbage bin in the bedroom and we had to call the housekeeping for face towel and replenishing the body balm. Though we were lucky to have room on 28th floor, yet it was still noisy both outside and inside. For noises outside, the management can't do much about it as it is facing 42nd Street after all. Yet for inside, they can at least improve the insulation. There is a gap of around 4 in. x 1/2 in. at the bottom right hand corner of the door of our room that you hear people talking/walking in the hallway, next room and on the upper floor and fortunately we are not that noise sensitive. However, having to pay around US$400 per night and at Grand Hyatt, we certainly would not have expected these. If location is not of your top priority, you may have alternatives for that kind of money, isn' it?

Room Tip: Try to ask for rooms on higher floors.
