I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt a number of times but not since their "renovation." I have no problem with minimalistic decorating but I was completely disappointed with their redo. If you're into dark walls, lots of stainless steel, meaningless huge head sculptures and very uncomfortable furniture, you'll probably be okay with this place. For me, it was just a very depressing atmosphere. They have moved their bar to overlook Grand Central Station. I have been in diners with a better atmosphere than their bar area. It's stark and very uncomfortable. There was little wonder that this place was never crowded!!!

The room itself was clean. The bathroom was ridiculous. I would love to meet the person who "designed" it. It was small and cramped. The utility shelf over the sink didn't help matters; you constantly would hit your head on it each and every time you used the sink to wash your face or brush your teeth. The touch sensitive lighting is maddening - sometimes it works, most times it doesn't!!!

The only thing this hotel has going for it is location since it's centrally located in midtown and right across from Grand Central Station.

Dear bardbonchan,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Grand Hyatt New York. We sincerely appreciate your loyalty over the years, and find it disappointing that your most recent experience failed to meet your expectations. Though we have found an overwhelmingly positive response to our last redesign, we also understand that every guest has his or her own unique taste and preferences. We will be taking your feedback into consideration as we look to make updates in the years to come. Until then, we hope to have another opportunity to serve you and recapture some of the magic of your first few visits.

My mother took me to the Grand Hyatt for 10 days from 28/06/14 until 07/07/14
for my 40th birthday. This hotel is amazing we had room 3018 on the 30th floor with a view of the Crystler building. Our check in lady Diane was brilliant explained all about the hotel, and even upgraded our room to a larger room. Arranged champagne for my birthday which was brilliant. We joned the 'gold' club befor arrivng which gave us free wifi and also vouchers to get unlimited tea and coffee and water from the snack bar in the hotel this was a god send.
The room was large with two kingsize beds walk in wardrobe and large dressing table. The safe and mini fridge were adiquate for what we needed.
Our cleaner was ruthles and threw out electrical items in a large bag placed under the dresing table, i made a complaint to reception and after a couple of days complaining this was replaced, it was just a error however was frustrating at the time, and alo the time it took to get sorted in the end refused to check out until those items had either been replaced or we were refunded for. Unfortunatly the case for my designer shades couldnt be replaced so the hotel arranged us a credit to the shop and transport back to the airport which we were very happy with. Mistakes happen however staf should be a little more careful when disregarding items belonging to guests in the hotel. I was told by the security manager this happened alot as tourists often just ditch boxes for electronic items in rooms. I did point out perhap to review this as we were still in the hotel. The hotel is in an ideal location for sightseeing close to 5th ave and time square, make ure you have the map up the right way hahaha and very good walking shoes. We had some memorable experiance' a tut tut ride through central park, a guided tour around the world trade centre by a lady whos husband had been killed and i have to say although very emotional was the best thing i felt we did in New York. We enjoyed our stay so much planning on returning next year to the hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a high floor crystler side and join the gold club on the hyatt website befor you travel

We are now staying for 12 nights as part of our summer family vacation. I am a gold member and our issues started at the reception for checki-in , definitely form over function, with no one working on the priority desk for gold club members, also no offer of assistance with our luggage, unique for a so called Grand Hyatt...the staff are not welcoming when one can eventually get to the desk to check-in, for us 15 minutes...only two staff working ? Now the room, we have a double double on the club floor, certainly not inexpensive , where is the clothes storage ? We are four for 12 nights ! No tea or coffee facilities in the room ? No normal accoutrements in the bathroom i.e. ear buds sewing kit etc etc. broken electric blind with exposed cabling replaced with a hodge blind which is falling apart...no bath gowns or disposable slippers...again very odd...I am really regretting not staying at another hotel...we will most certainly be informing Virgin on the problems and our disappointment with this second rate over hyped hotel..... Feel free to contact us we are resident until 26/7/14

Dear TurpieFamily,

We greatly appreciate that you chose our hotel for your family vacation, but regret to hear it has not yet met your expectations. We take pride in providing guests with superior service from the moment they arrive, and we apologize for failing to properly assist you with check-in. It is an uncharacteristic oversight from our typically prompt, friendly staff, and we will be looking into the matter to ensure it remains an isolated incident.

Additionally, we are always happy to accommodate any special requests. From coffee and tea, to robes and slippers, we would be happy to deliver any number of amenities to your room. Should a need arise, simply contact the front desk at your convenience.

We appreciate your feedback and hope you find more satisfaction and relaxation in the rest of your stay. If you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

Sincerely,

Guest Experience Manager

We stayed at the Hyatt Grand Central 3 days during 4th of July. The hotel is located next to Grand Central Station. This was our first trip to New York, so we tried to see as much as we could in a short time. Being next to Grand Central made it easy to get the Subway if we needed. There is also lots of shopping and eating places at Grand Central too.
The hotel was very comfortable and the staff very friendly and efficient! The king size bed was so comfortable and room nicely decorated and roomy. The only complaint was the bathroom sink. No place to set anything ( tooth brush or hairbrush etc.) But the shower was excellent! Maybe the best at any hotel we've stayed in. My husband wants a shower head like that now!
There is a place to grab coffee and food in the lobby and a bar too. The lobby to the hotel is very nice and has a beautiful seating area to relax.
I would definitely stay here again. We hope to return to New York again!

Room Tip: First time in NY pretty loud city noises. We were on 25th floor and could still hear sirens and horns a little . I would recommend asking for a high floor.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 2 nights. The rooms are excellent and perfectly clean.
The most important thing is the position. It is so central near to everything - Times Square, Broadway.5th Avenue and more. We even managed to walk to Central Park from the hotel.
It is important to ask for a high floor and it is a noisy area with a lot of action.
There are restaurants in the area for all tastes. Grand Central Station is 2 minutes away for anyone wanting to travel.
