“Good location, but very bad value.”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

I found this hotel very poor.
Despite its great location, near the city center, the room was very small (it just had a bed and a small table). It was not very clean and it was very noisy.
The wireless connection was also very poor.
Finally, the staff was not very friendly and they asked me for money to keep my luggage the day I checked-out.

This hotel is in a super location (easy walk to Penn Station, Times Square, etc.), & the price is reasonable for Manhattan. Although I arrived early, the room was ready, and the staff were very pleasant, and I will definitely stay here again.

I have been meaning to write a review of the Herald Square for quite a while, as I have stayed here four times in the past few years. Firstly, the location is fantastic, just over/down the road from Macy's and the Empire State building and within easy reach of the subway and Penn station. The Hotel is located in the Garment district and feels safe whether it's day or night. East 31st has several fast food shops and if you head along to 6th avenue, 876 Market Deli does lovely bagels with cream cheese etc for a couple of dollars, like most NY hotels the Herald Square does not do breakfast. The rooms are spacious, clean and have incredibly comfortable large beds, a flat screen TV, radio alarm clock with built in CD player(no ipod docks but bring your own speakers!), and clean roomy bathrooms with Aveda toiletries. The staff are quite often busy but always helpful and will provide advice, decent maps etc upon request, Monica in particular stands out, she is a lovely woman and a credit to the Hotel. Enough rambling, the Hotel is excellent value and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a well placed, friendly, well run hotel in central Manhattan. Ps there is also the free coffee machine in the lobby, which is surprisingly decent, and chocolates..............

Stayed at the Herald Square for a few days on a shopping trip. It's the perfect hotel for such a holiday with easy access to many of the major sites in NY. The hotel is very reasonably priced, room was spacious and the bed was fantastic - very comfortable. Air conditioning worked a treat which meant that we were able to take refuge from the 35C heat. Bathroom was spacious and very clean. A definite recommend from me.

I recently visited this hotel and was pleasantly surprised. We were upgraded to the best room in the hotel, which was newly renovated. Although the hotel does not include breakfast, it does provide free coffee and sweets. As we were lucky enough to be upgraded, I don't know what the other rooms are like, and they may be smaller, etc. The beds were really comfortable. The was plenty of amenities in the bathroom, such as shampoos, conditioner etc. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom but it unfortunately it had seen better days. The staff were helpful and friendly. I thought this was a good hotel and would recommend it.

Its cheap, its walk-able distance to times square and empire state building.. and its cheap... I know repeated myself. FOr a hotel which is so near to TimesSq, this is pretty good. The room had a flat screen TV and the location was perfect. I recommend for the single travelers or couple looking for the New York life without spending a fortune. Safe area as well..

Looked more like a broom store than a room, and the view was as if l was in jail even the building oposite had barrs on. The hotell messed up on my room, then tried to charge me extras staff where rude. would not recomed this hotel would be worthwhile paying extra for better accomodation.
