“Excellent for the money”
Reviewed 22 May 2012

Stayed 2 nights and know NYC hotels well. This one is not deluxe but a moderate, reasonably well maintained hotel in a very convenient location. Near subways, bus, shows, restaurants and shops. Taxis line up outside. A big offering for breakfast, which considering you are in NYC, can easily save you $10. per person when you eat there. Staff was cheerful and helpful. Rooms were large by city standards though bathrooms were on the small size. Our room had a bit of a dank smell when we first arrived, but it was clean and comfortable. Definitely recommended.

This is not a luxurious hotel. However, and ths is a big however, it is one of the best NYC hotels available for value and location. Yes, you may walk a little more to get to Times Square but many of the Broadway shows are within two blocks. Plus, there is a Rite Aid across the street that has groceries and other items expected in a drug store. It is not over priced. Because it is on 8th Avenue, the crowds are not there. Breakfast was CROWDED. I mean CROWDED. One morning the line was 20 deep just to get to the breakfast area. Staff knows this but nothing has been done about it. It may be due to the popularity of the hotel. Rooms are nice. Not spectacular but nice. The concierge is dedicated and helpful. Our rooms were in the 225-250 (before taxes) range which for NYC was a value.

Dear scarletman1972,

We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay overall and that you found us to be “one of the best NYC hotels available for value and location”. Breakfast can indeed get busy at times. To enjoy a quiet breakfast we recommend going to breakfast between 8am and 10am daily as indicated on the breakfast sign in the lobby. We also have breakfast-to-go bags available at front desk until 10am which you can grab and go if you don’t have time to have breakfast with us. We will continue to improve and make every effort to ensure that our guests are completely satisfied with their stay with us. We hope that in future you will decide to stay with us once again in an effort to provide you with a perfect stay. We love having you here!

Sincerely,

Joella Cumberbatch

The entrance and lobby of the hotel were small and unwelcoming. But the staff was great and the room itself was pleasing. This is a great deal for the location in midtown NYC (practically across the street from Macy's in Herald Square) and block from the Empire State Bldg.

If you don't plan on spending a lot of time in the room, just need a clean room, comfortable bed, and clean place to shower then this is more than enough. Don't get conned into spending a fortune on your hotel in NYC. Save your money on the hotel so you can enjoy other parts of NYC!!

My son wanted to go NYC for his Make-a-Wish trip, and this is the hotel the organization set us up in. We couldn’t have been happier! It's a great location, and only a short walk from Times Square and other destinations. The area felt safe, and was close to the subway. The staff was friendly, attentive, and followed through. Every request was immediately met. Extra roll away bed? No problem, it was up in a minute or two. Same with refrigerators, extra blankets, hangers, towels etc (we kept the housekeeping staff busy!). This hotel was running like a well-oiled machine and nothing went unresolved (well, the requested microwave oven took a few days to arrive since they were all in use in other rooms). We had two rooms across the hallway from each other, and both were large, clean, fresh and pleasant to be in. The bed and pillows were comfy. One room (422) faced 8th street and was noisier than 421 which faced a notch in the building and a partial view of 51st (?) Street (this room was very quiet). The doors made a loud ker-chunk noise when they closed, but at least you know they were closed. The toilets flushed very quickly (good so you don’t wake people up at night) and I don’t recall hearing them being flushed in nearby rooms (a frequent issue in other hotels). The only nit I could identify was the desire for 2 or 3 electrical outlets on the desk lamp (there is only 1) since most people travel with phones, computers etc that need to be charged at the same time. The free breakfast was better than we had expected, and there was a huge variety. As others noted, the breakfast was often a busy place, but usually the wait wasn’t too long. In the lobby there were complimentary drinks, fruit and cookies every time we passed through. The concierge had pretty long hours and was very helpful with all of our requests. The free Internet was good, but sometimes a bit slow.

I've literally clocked years staying in hotels around the world, and this hotel is up there with the best for their staff and operations. Value and location were top notch too. We couldn’t be happier, and THEY REALLY DID MAKE OUR WISH COME TRUE! We highly suggest you give this hotel your business.

Great hotel in Manhattan. Excellent location, large room by NY standard, great free breakfast, very friendly staff. The only issue was the housekeeping, always careless. Some reviews complain about noise problems, it was not an issue for me.

Very impressed with the hospitality of all staff we came in contact with. The only down side was the long wait for the elevators at check-out and breakfast time.

We had one week in New York and 3 of us shared a room on 8th floor facing 8th Ave . very tidy , and enough space . The location is perfect walking distance to Time Square about 10 min and all the action .The subway , bus terminal , and attractions all close by A nice .Breakfast is supplied But to avoid the crowd get down there before 8 am .we used a 2 Day New York Pass , and you must have a game plan to use it effectively. There are only so many things possiblle to fit in one day . A subway Metro Pass is a great idea , and very safe travel . Purchase your card at any station $5 minimum and top it up when necessary , each ride will cost you $2.50 and you cam ride anywhere ,just swipe the turnstiles entry and your on your way
