GREAT stay...coming from Alaska, we weren't sure what we would find. This place had a great breakfast, great beds, clean rooms and public areas, friendly staff, and a super location. We will absolutely stay here again!

Just forget it. Pay another 50 or 100 box and stay in a better place, even if you are 10 stations away from the crowd. By the way best is to stay away from crowds when you want some rest. I use my Hhonors points and they gave me a noisy room near the elevators shaft. The breakfast in the morning is tumultuos , big lines and a noisy crowd. Never again!

An amazingly busy hotel that acts like a neighborhood resource! From Melissa, the guest services manger, through the totally responsive front desk and friendly and helpful luggage and mail staff you couldn't find a more welcoming and supportive staff anywhere in New York. No small benefit in a city known for high speed disinterest... NOT here! You will never feel intimidated or reluctant to ask a question or ask for help. Even as a repeat business traveler, I'm never taken for granted, and I have never heard anyone being treated with anything but patience and respect. I couldn't do it!!!

I must say, the service was excellent. However, the rooms are worn and it felt like Holiday Inn or a Howard Johnson's (I am not a fan of either). I was there on business and the company I work for chose the hotel. If I were paying the bill (over $350/night), I would not select this hotel. There are much better choices for the $$ in Manhattan.

Rooms are comfortable; staff is nice; breakfast is fine but crowded as per NYC. We have stayed all over NYC in Hilton properties, and this one is simply OK. Fresh cookies and apples help especially in cold winter. Wish the rooms had NYC magazines.

We stayed here for a long weekend with two kids who were very excited to be in New York City. Our (spotless) room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the corner of 8th and 51st so we had a great view of the comings and goings when we weren't sightseeing. Don't worry about noise because there isn't any. Maybe the odd (well muffled) NYPD/FD siren but if that bothers you then mid town Manhattan probably isn't for you. There have been many comments about the breakfast buffet but in our experience ( as what you'd call fussy eaters) it was perfect. So many choices. The kids especially loved using the waffle maker and showed a couple of guests how to make theirs too as many people found it confusing. The 24 hour coffee, fruit and bottled water availability is a very thoughtful touch particularly as we were frequently asked if we needed to take some out with us when leaving the building - saving us $3 a bottle in the stores.

The best thing about this hotel is the people who work there. Genuine, friendly and although they are very busy they'll always say hello or chat to you - not because its company policy but because they're just nice people. Don't forget to tip the hotel maids a couple of dollars each day. They do a superb job compared to other hotels I've stayed in and easily forgotton because you don't see them.

A couple of local tips. If you have kids they'll love the Tutti Frutti self - serve frozen yogurt shop across the street. The Bread and Honey deli a few blocks up 8th Ave towards Central Park is the best of the bunch IMHO. Hot buffet, grill, sandwiches, salads etc, plentiful seating ( a rare commodity in Manhattan !)and great value. The hotel recommends The Mee Noodle shop on 9th and 53rd and they're right. The food is gorgeous!
On the contrary we found the much-hyped Shakeshack on 8th and 44th st to be pretty mediocre. We've learned to steer clear of eateries near popular tourist attractions as they tend to be overpriced and not great. Look for ones full of locals and you won't go far wrong. The only exception to this rule is Starbucks as its still the best coffee in town !
Can't wait to come back to NYC when the weather is a bit warmer and I would so not risk staying in any other hotel

Room Tip: rooms on the corner of 8th and 51st have a great view and they are far away from the noisy elevators...
