Overall this is not a bad place to stay.
Convenient location and fairly comfortable rooms. However.
The rooms that face inside the "square" , look out into each others rooms and it is like being in a prison or dungeon. (room 823 and similar).
Your only hope of seeing the sky is to stick your head as far into the window as possible and strain to look up the remaining 28 floors and hopefully see a very small patch of sky... It was miserable for 6 days....
On the other hand, the room was "comfortable" at least it had that going for it.
Another drawback to this hotel is the concierge lounge.
Nice docents but the place can be overcrowded in a hurry.
Couple this to the food and beverage layout and what you can get is a terrible bottleneck trying to get to food on one side of the room, and beverages on the other side.
And what's up with NO COOKED MEATS with the morning breakfast fare??? A little bacon goes a long way to make eggs go down easier.
Getting the breakfast and afternoon servings "refreshed" was a little too slow as well.
I know it was busy but a little more effort would be nice.
Oh, the coffee, espresso, latte maker is a fine piece of equipment... Pours a nice beverage.
A makeover of the layout could garner better flow for food and beverage and probably gain some seating capacity.
Not a bad stay but I do like other Marriott properties in the area better.

Room Tip: Stay away from the inside rooms if you want to see anything but your neighbor. They are very quiet...

I stayed here on business for 4 days with no issues at all. This Marriott is convenient to everything especially if your sightseeing. I had a King room which was clean and comfortable. It is small, but most Manhattan hotel rooms are. The staff was gracious and helpful. Check in was a breeze. The only down side was the available food choices in the hotel are limited, but a block or two walk in any direction will conquer that.

This was an interesting Marriott to stay at in NYC. There were some positives like finally a Marriott with pretty decent towels and sheets. This is the first Marriott I have stayed at where the bathroom towels don;t feel like sandpaper. It also looks as if the hotel has been renovated which was nice to see. For NYC, the front desk staff was moderately pleasant, not friendly, but not nasty either.Just okay. There were also quite a bit of upper management in the lobby which gives one the impression that they care.

On the downside, the rooms are quite small, the air conditioner/heater units are hard to control and Marriott continues to put these crazy heavy duvees that double as bed spreads/blankets that make the beds incredibly hot. Also amazing was that even 5 floors up, you could here the street noise so loud and clear that we had to download a white noise making app...just to get to sleep. If you run a hotel in NYC, invest in noise reduction windows!

Another down note was they were giving out "NYC pretzels" in the lobby. They were in chafing dishes and supposedly warm. I got one that was hard as a hockey puck and cold which is not the way to promote food operations in your hotel.

The big issue I saw was security...or lack thereof. Most hotels especially in NYC go overboard to make sure you know and see security to deter anything happening. Not here. Never saw much security, no checks and balances when coming into the hotel.

I came in very late at night and when I entered the lobby I did see 2 security guards talking by the front desk. I tried to show them my room key...and they never budged from their spot, never even looked at or acknowledged me. I tried several times holding up my key, I actually tried to get them to check to see if I was guest, they never even looked my way. Very disconcerting that anyone could just walk into the hotel with 2 guards in the lobby and no one asks for id or a room key.

Great location , but there are some things that need to be addressed.

I Stayed the thanksgiving week in the Hotel, the room in the 28 floor was nice, clean and big. The bed was comfortable and the Bathroom size nice. The cleaning lady was really nice and caring and our room was cleaned very well. The Restaurant service was really bad, not only in the mornings, but in the Thanksgiving dinner the service was slow and really bad. We waited almost 20 minutes to be served with our first course (a salad) the waiter was never around and we waited ridiculously for a meal that it was already cooked. (turkey, gravy,). Overall my impression of the people who works in the restaurant area is that they are not happy to work in service, and that everytime you needed anything it was a problem with them. Really Marriot need to improve this because it is not a cheap hotel and the food is pricey. I am really dissapointed on this because we received a better treatment on our Newark Marriot Stay. The hotel is beautiful and it has the New York Style but with rude people working in the front desk and in the restaurant you will loose customers. I will never return to this Marriot again!!!

I stayed at this property the week before Thanksgiving. The king Room is very comfortable, not exactly spacious, but remember, this is Manhattan. Check in was a breeze, about 3 minutes, maybe less. Elevators are a bit slow. The location is great for shopping, dining, trains - we walked from Grand Central, with luggage, in the rain (could not get a cab) and it only took a few minutes. Many restaurants will deliver directly to the hotel so there is no need to buy pricey hotel food. Concierge is great for suggestions. Would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a king room, those are a bit larger. To ensure quiet, ask for a higher floor.

Married couple with teenage son, first time in New York. We were gonna do all the touristy things available to us. This hotel is a great jumping off point. Very reasonable rates for Manhattan and we could not have asked for a better location. 10 min walk to Rockefeller Center, 15 min walk to Times Square, Shopping districts, Central Park near the Plaza. Also, if you're taking any hop off hop on tours, there is a stop right across the street from this hotel. It was amazingly convenient and safe too. We walked around the area well past midnight and never felt uneasy.

Its a gorgeous hotel with very clean and modern rooms. A bit small but you can tell it has been recently remodeled. We were completely content with our 5 night stay. Housekeeping did a great job daily and the consigner was always helpful. My only gripe would be the wait staff at the bar/lounge. The hotel does not have much of a lobby area...literally two chairs. We sat at the lounge near the bar waiting for our ride. The server rudely asked us not to sit in those chairs (which many were empty) because they needed to be saved for those who were ordering drinks. I didn't think that was right. We were guests of the hotel and deserved to be treated better.

Besides that, we had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to stay here again. I just wish they would train their staff to be more accommodating to guests...after all...they are in the hospitality industry!

From the time we arrived on September 5, 2012 the attention from the Bellman, Front Office Agent and Director, her self, was absolutely outstanding, the lobby was beautiful and the atmosphere just welcomed you to relax.

The room accommodations sophisticated and elegant, and balcony views were spectacular.

You made our Family and Friends get together an experience to remember for many many years to come.

Already think and planning to return sometime in 2014.
