I am not usually a big fan of large hotels but the Marriott Marquis in Times Square is an exception. Two friends and I went to see Ice Man Cometh and this location was perfect. It was a long (but excellent) play and it was so nice to just walk a short block back to our hotel! In addition, unlike many New York City hotels, the rooms are quite spacious. The three of us were able to comfortably share one room (two double beds and a pullout sleep sofa). Given the high cost of hotel rooms in New York City this was a huge benefit.

The New York Marriott Marquis is my pick no 1 for hotels in New York City. Because of the perfect location in Times Square, the big rooms, the good beds and the great view of Times Square from the room.

This time I encountered two issues of costumer service I want to address:
1) There was a person selling Marriott Vacation Club to costumers in a fairly persistent and aggressive manner. I did not feel comfortable when I declined and he went on trying to convince me. He approached every guest in various locations of the hotel. This marketing project should be less conspicuous. I do not feel like buying this concept after experiencing this sales effort.
2) At check-out, the female clerk at the front desk did not smile, and funny enough, almost shouted :" Have you enjoyed your stay, mr..?" without giving me eye contact. It was kind of robot like. I think the encounter with the front desk should be more personal in each case.

Housekeeping staff were all polite, courteous, and did an outstanding job. The rooms are a bit outdated, though, and could do with a make-over.

Room Tip: Ask for a Times Square view room

Great hotel right in the middle of the action!

Elevators take a little getting used to-you type in where you want to go and it tells you which elevator to use. Actually quite efficient.

Right above Marquis Theatre, where we saw a play. Raining outside; only had to go downstairs!

Make sure you go to the rotating bar on the 48th floor!

Room Tip: We were on the Times Square side-awesome!

Our recent stay in New York City was based in the Marriott Marquis in the center of Times Square. We chose it for its reputation and location. Right on Broadway, very near the TKTS booth, and just north of Junior's Cheesecake, the Marquis is convenient to everything. Check-in was smooth, and we were lucky to be able to get into our room even though we were a bit early. Elevators are "high-tech" -- instead of "Up" or "Down", one selects the floor number of the desired destination, and the display points you to a specific elevator that just knows what floor you want. The only drawback was that during busy times, the elevators seemed to be quite slow. Our room (2 doubles) was very clean and comfortable. Housekeeping was timely and efficient. We would choose the Marquis again the next time we visit NYC.

Very large and extremely busy hotel. If you’re looking for a quiet stay in NYC this is not the place to be. I had a corner room which was large and fairly comfortable. What made me give this an average rating was the bathroom. The toilet flushes like you’re in an airplane. Very loud and does not do the job. The mold around the sink was terrible. Pillows were also not very comfortable. There are many other choice available at $400 per night.
