“Amazing Hotel - an absolute must!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

I can not recommend the Sanctuary enough! What a wonderful place.

Our flight was delayed so we arrived at the Sanctuary 2 hours after we were expected and received such a warm welcome. We were checked in within 2-3 minutes and shown to our room. Our bags were brought up within 5 minutes and we were sat in the roof top bar within 10 minutes!

We received a lovely welcome letter on arrival (we were on honeymoon) saying that the hotel had a bottle of Cava on ice for whenever we wanted it - we arranged this for our 4th (and last) night, to be drunk in the roof top bar.

Every single member of staff was fantastic - the doormen always smiled, receptionist greeted you, the bar staff were so cool and took the time out to talk to you and find out how your day was. But...the biggest shout out goes to Brandon! He is awesome. I contacted Brandon about 2 months before our honeymoon to ask for some help booking surprise tickets for the Mets game, he helped me book these and gave us the best 3 day itinerary ever - we fit so much into our trip and we wouldn't have done this without his help! On our first morning we met Brandon and he gave us maps, advice and general information. He also recommended two fantastic restaurants and made reservations. I honestly can not say enough good things about him! Brandon, you made our visit to NYC so cool!

Our room was on the 7th floor and overlooked the road. There is some noise from the street (mainly cars beeping) but good luck finding somewhere in NYC that you can’t hear that! We heard absolutely no noise from the roof top bar! The rooms are comfortable and plenty big enough – after all, you aren’t there to laze around in your room. The bed is lush and the shower is really good.

Breakfast is great. a selection of cereal, pastries, juice, tea, coffee, toast, bagels etc. A fab way to start the day and kept us going until lunch time with no problems!

If we return to NYC then the Sanctuary would be our No.1 choice every time – you’d be crazy not to stay here.

P.S. the location is also spot on!!!

I just spent 4 days with my auntie at the Sanctuary mid May 2-14- the hotel in a quiet street, but is in a great location, walking distance from Central Station, Rockeffeller Centre etc.

Overall, we had a great experience, the staff were very friendly, well groomed, looked smart and attentive. Both concierges were so helpful and had great knowledge of the area and its surroundings.

However, we got sent 3 different people on 3 different occasions to our room, even though we had not requested anyone to come and see us, they had sent a handy man to fix the bathroom, and another time a cleaning lady as apparently we had requested some towels.

Our safe failed to open twice, however, they had sent someone very quickly to fix it.

Breakfast was lovely, however, it would have been better if we had got China cups instead of paper.

Nothing was bad though, the food on the terrace was fantastic and again, the staff all looked stunning. Special word for Anissa who served us, she was great.

On our departure, the doorman had booked us a taxi which arrived on time, when the taxi arrived, we had requested for a further 10 minutes and it was not an issue.

We had a smooth check in and smooth check out.

I would definitely book again and recommend the Sanctuary to friends.

Great place

This mid-town hotel is within easy walking distance of subways, theaters and restaurants. It's free breakfast is adequate. The 5th floor room was quiet. We had to ask for extra blankets and pillows three times. The light switches are odd. They have to be tapped "just so" to turn in just the toilet area; if you get it wrong in the middle of the night the whole room is ablaze. We did not like the shower area, which is separated from the room by a hospital-style curtain. The sink had less than an inch of shelf space around it.

This was one of the best hotels that we stayed at on our three week tour of the west coast of America which we finnished by visiting New York .
The staff at this hotel are very good, from the doormen who welcome you, the reception staff that book you in to the staff that provide breakfast.
The fact that you did not know that you were just a street away from times square itself is testament to the quality of this hotel.
This hotel stands out from the rest, red carpet on the street outside to the lighting that makes the hotel stand out at night just add to the feeling that you are staying somewhere special.
Another feature that made our stay memorable was the concierge who knew everything there is to know about new york and proved invaluable in giving precise directions whether you chose to walk, use the underground or direct you to which shop you should head for.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone

We travelled to NY for my daughters NYU graduation and chopped and changed a few times before finally settling on the Sanctuary , one of the best decisions ever , from the guys on the door to the girls on the desk , the hotel and staff are fantastic.

Perfect location for midtown , small boutique hotel with an amazing rooftop terrace which can be as lively as you want it to be .One small point for older couples is the downstairs restaurants and bars can be very very busy but we were out nearly all the time so it didnt affect us.

We had a double double room , there was plenty of space and the room had a great air conditioning system which is a necessity for this time of year .Our room , was 616 which was right next to the lifts , however the noise was non existent .

All in all I will definetly go back .

Room Tip: Ask the reception for advice , plus if you dont like it they will assist you to change , nothing was...

This was our first trip to NYC and we were excited to find that our hotel was close to everything, but quiet and inviting once inside. The rooms are small, but a study in having everything you need in a well-designed space. Breakfast and wifi included are nice amenities included with the price. Would definitely stay again!

Although there are a couple small things I don't care for at the Sanctuary, the hotel is absolutely incredible! My wife and I recently celebrated our honeymoon at the Sanctuary, and both of us would enthusiastically return and consider ourselves lucky if we got the opportunity.

On the negative side, I really can't stand the lobby bathrooms being unisex. In an effort to be "European", or in the spirit of ski lodges, the bathrooms have a common entrance and washroom, with little doors that either men or women can enter. Evidently, in Europe, everybody goes to the bathroom together, a party I'd never care to attend:).

But let me get to some of the MANY positives of the Sanctuary:
-Rooms are lovely. Beautifully and interestingly furnished in deep colors and styles. Featured plush bathrobes and lots of leather.
-Peek-a-boo showers are quirky and fun. Obviously NOT designed for families (although there are curtains to draw for privacy), but a sexy and fun little touch.
-Continental breakfast is generous, well-staffed, and a step above most continental breakfasts. GOOD coffee, nice tea selection, plus yogurt, hot oatmeal, eggs, fresh fruit,.etc served in a VERY nice restaurant area.
-Haven Rooftop Bar is beautiful and unusual. Way too crowded at times (especially Happy Hour!), and I've not a big fan of a small serving of chips and guacamole costing $16, EVEN in NYC! I have to be honest though, it truly IS a Haven and my wife and I very much enjoyed our drinks up there.
-FANTASTIC and friendly staff. Doormen,...great. Front desk staff,.....great. Waiters and waitresses,.....great. Housekeepers,......great. Concierge,....great. Did I leave anybody out?
-Wonderful location just 2 blocks off Times Square!! (caution, no views from windows)
-Hotel feels VERY secure and well attended to. Never felt as if there weren't eyes looking out for the safety of the clientele'
-My wife and I were repeatedly recognized by staff, offered free umbrellas to use in the rain, and even provided a personalized card and bottle of champagne upon our arrival (oh yeah, and our room was ready at 11 a.m.!)

In summary, even though I detest the lobby bathroom situation, I can't imagine having enjoyed a NYC hotel more than this. Feeling blessed and energized by our stay their, and thankful to the staff at this great hotel!
