stayed here in May 2014 for my partners 40th surprise trip. Looking for something cool and different in a great location. Was not disappointed on all fronts. The staff were very attentive, the place extremely cool. The location was ridiculously central - 30 second s from times square yet still peaceful due the decor and privacy. Worth every penny as a premium. The roof top terrace is a great extra after a busy day for chilling whilst looking over the New York lights. Quick tip - breakfast is good but focussed on healthy - just eggs for hot choice - no meats so if you are looking for a traditional high calorie US breakfast then opposite is a simple but good cafe for this. The concierge were excellent - it was our first stay and they helped with all the basics so don't be embarrassed to ask about how to use subway etc - the rooms are small but perfectly adequate and quality excellent - thanks guys for a great stay we will be back x

It´s a nice hotel and clean.
The location is near a metrostadion and not far away from the times square.
The service crew is very friendly.
A little disadvantage a the small rooms and if you stay longer the breakfast, because it´s alwasy the same.
But over all it´s a good chosee.

We just returned from staying at the Sanctuary Hotel. Everything about it was wonderful. The entire staff from the doorman, front desk and concierge are very professional and friendly. The rooftop bar was nice to have a drink or two before a show. We will definitely be back the next time we go to NYC. It is a true gem in a busy city.

Thanks again, Sheila and Andre

This is a great choice if you want to avoid the big chain hotel experience and if you want somewhere with character in a central location for New Yorks main attractions. Yes the rooms are small but they have done a brilliant job of utilising the available space and they are stylish and have everything you need for a few days stay.......you wouldn't want to be there many more than 4 or 5 nights though. Noise with the rooftop bar is a problem with some rooms but we changed rooms without a problem. What sets this hotel apart is the exceptional service and superb staff. Before we arrived Jimmy the Concierge prepared a detailed suggested itinerary for us and made reservations in advance for restaurants, nothing was too much trouble and his ideas were spit on. The bell boys and reception staff were also outstanding, many more upmarket hotels I have stayed in could learn from them.
Breakfast did not however live up to the same standards. I knew to expect a continental breakfast not a full buffet so no problem there but tables were left dirty whilst staff stood around, cutlery and crockery regularly run out and the toaster didn't work properly...... shame!
The rooftop bar is great and seems to be popular with locals after work during the week but not do great if your room is beneath it. All in all I would recommend this hotel we really enjoyed our stay

A very convenient haven from the heat and maddening crowds of Times Square. Rooms are small but extremely well appointed and comfortable. Service was excellent. The breakfast is hearty Will return again and again.

After spending five nights in their "Deluxe King" room, I have to wonder what type of people are giving this hotel a 4-5 star rating. If you are going to NYC for the primary purpose to be near Times Square in order to party and party in the Sanctuary's roof top lounge, then this may be your kind of hotel. Otherwise, stay away and look for a different hotel. This hotel is not good for couples seeking a quiet boutique hotel experience or families. 1st) The hotel is not in a good location for catching a cab if you are headed outside of Time's Square. The hotel is located on a one way street right off Times Sq. so it usually took us 10-15 min. just to get out of the Times Sq. congestion. At times, even their doorman suggested we walk to the corner to catch a cab. When the doormen were around, they were polite and helpful but they were not always around -- one evening (at 8 p.m.) it was pouring rain when we arrived back to the hotel and no one was around with an umbrella to help us out of the cab. Instead, he was directing elevator traffic to their roof top lounge. 2nd) Even our "Deluxe King" our room was extremely small to get around in. Plus, we have never stayed at a hotel with NO BATHROOM OR CLOSET DOOR (only a door for the toilet area) -- the bathroom is right inside of the bedroom with only a curtain for privacy. If you do not study their on-line site guest room pictures, you may not notice this. Our room was on the eight floor facing the front of the building with the Fox building offices directly across the street, so you had to always keep the shades down if you wanted any privacy. 3rd) This hotel is very dark with black, red and dark brown colors -- both the lobby and hallways have no natural light -- this gets depressing after a while. With no natural light coming into the hotel it smells very musty -- especially in the narrow dark hallways. Musty smelling odors are usually caused by mold and mildew which are the main culprits caused by moisture and dirt with no proper air circulation. We could tell these odors were camouflaged with deodorizers. Also, the dark interior appears to hide some of the hotel flaws with very worn furniture in the lobby area. 4th) As a couple looking for a peaceful place to stay, we did not find the hotel comfortable for other reasons -- limited sitting areas in a very small lobby area. Piped in music (rap or pop) was constantly playing and after a while that became annoying. Outside guests, not staying at the hotel, were constantly coming and going to party at the roof top lounge. At times, the hotel would even close off one of their two elevators for outsiders coming into the hotel to go to the roof lounge -- that left only one small elevator for hotel guests. By the end of our stay it appeared this was more of a nightclub with tiny sleeping rooms -- not a quiet "boutique hotel".
Considering the price for this type of a room, you could do better and would probably be more comfortable in a different type of hotel. Yes, they include a continental breakfast but staying here still wasn't worth it to us. You may want to also check out the poor reviews before considering to stay here.

Room Tip: We booked a "Deluxe King" on the eight fl. facing the front and even that size was very sm...

We just returned from spending an anniversary getaway in New York. The hardest decision was what hotel to stay at. We are so happy I picked The Sanctuary Hotel. It is like it's name a little sanctuary in the midst of all the hustle and bustle. The staff are exceptional and so was the service. We were greeted by name every time we entered the lobby. They upgraded our room and gave us some complementary champagne to help us celebrate. The rooms are a bit small but everything you need is there.
The included breakfast was perfect way to start the morning. The rooftop bar and restaurant is a great place to end the day and the meal at Tenders was very good. The friendly staff and stay at the Sanctuary really added to the positive experience in NY.
