The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel

Reviewed 13 December 2013 via mobile

The hotel was ok. The location was fantastic. The bed however... Oh my god. What the heck? The "comforter" was some down alternative thing that was washed 400,000 times since it went into use in 1972. Each "baffle" of the blanket was filled with hard yellow lumps of something that formerly made up the blanket. Hard, disgusting yellow lumps. When we called down and asked for a new blanket, they brought us a 1970s era yellowed with smoke velour blanket. With holes in it.

Really? I'm sorry - I can get past that. It's bedding that should have been burned years ago. I was tempted to smoke in bed, in hopes it would go up in flames. No, it wasn't a smoking room. But that didnt matter. It filled with smoke from neighboring rooms anyway. Ill be posting pictures of the blanket in the pictures section.

The hotel is right in the middle of the Time Square action and priced well below other properties in the area. Rooms are adequate but the staff more than makes up for the less than five star accommodations. Will definitely consider them again.

Upon arrival found hairs in soap bar and it appears that it was rewrapped. When asked cleaning staff for another bar, was told they were short of soap. Maid took one from another room, acted as if we were crazy for reporting it to her as a problem. Bathroom floor and carpet in room were filthy. Bathroom floor had dirt and hair all over. Carpet looks as though it was vacuumed in forever. Furniture in room was so dusty my companion had to use sanitary wipes to dust the room, just disgusting all around. Walls and moulding, etc were scratched, dirty and falling apart. Also, Pillows were stained and disgusting, cover pillowcases was previously stained with either wine or grape juice, probably cleaned and reused, stain still on it. When I lifted the comforter to check bed (as I always do before getting in) I noticed hair on comforter and sheet, wondered if the bed was just remade or ever changed before we arrived. Spent a lot of money for two nights stay and would NEVER go back or recommend to ANYONE! Will lodge complaint on various social media sources who recommend the hotel. Purchased through a Groupon and will complain to them as well. Once we complained, the manager was helpful in getting us another room for the last night stay. Room was cleaner and overall better. Cannot believe the original room was ever offered for rent for the night, regardless of hotel renovations, there is no good reason (except they probably didn't want to lose money) to offer such trashy rooms, and no good reason for the service staff to expect guests to be satisfied with filthy soap, floors, bed pillows, bedding, counters, etc. Normally, I do not complain about rooms, this was beyond acceptance. Have told everyone I know who asked about my stay in NYC and told them to stay away...

this hotel is to be avoided at all costs. My recent trip there was unpleasant to say the least. There is renovation going on, on the ground floor so there are no bar/restaurant facilities. this was not mentioned when i booked in. the rooms are shabby and tired and they didn't clean my room until well into the afternoon. When i challenged them on the renovation and that this wasn't mentioned they said they would compensate me with free wifi....wow. $750 for two nights...disgraceful.

It worked for us because we really were not in the room over the thanksgiving holiday - but not very clean, and the staff was kind of sub par - could not split the hotel onto two cards (sharing the cost) no resturaunt or even coffee in the lobby - they receomended a resturaunt that was closed and appeared to have been closed a long time! The room was extremely hot to the point we had to ask for the window to be opened to be able to sleep - in November! The hallways are VERY dark as well.....

The location, however - is ideal!

When we checked in, we immediatly noticed they were doing renovations which was never advertised.
Our bathroom sink was immediately clogged with dirty brown water. When we notified the front desk, they said they would send someone up to fix the problem, but never did.
Even though its a non smoking hotel, we could smell our neighbors smoking cigarettes and our room stunk of smoke. When we complained about the smoke to a manager, they offered to spray our belongings with a "perfume" to help with the smell. When we asked to switch rooms, they tried to charge us.
Everything was old, outdated, and dirty. The only good thing is the location of the hotel.
We reserved the room for 3 nights, but checked out after the 1st night because it was so gross.

If you're looking for somewhere clean to sleep, do not stay here. You can find better.

I was at the hotel for around 18 days. Cigarette smoke was a permanent feature of the room at which I stayed on the 21st floor. The smoke came in through the vent in the bathroom and I complained about it more than a dozen times but they refused to caution whoever was smoking and they failed to correct the defect that allowed cigarette smoke from another floor to come into the room.Apart from this, most of their cleaning staff were nasty and extremely rude - they hated their jobs.
