The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel
Ranked #296 of 470 Hotels in New York City
Reviewed 5 January 2014

We stayed at this hotel last spring and it was undergoing renovations. Those renovations are continuing. There is no restaurant or business center at the hotel because of the renovations. The rooms are in need of updating and repair. That said, the location is ideal, and the rates are very reasonable. After our last visit, however, my husband and I have decided we'd rather pay a little more and stay at a hotel with better accommodations.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

OK, after reading earlier comments about this hotel, I was a little concerned about where my wife and I were staying. The 5 day break in New York for Christmas was part of our holiday which started off in Las Vegas and then San Diego. Following a 5 hour flight from San Diego and the super speed taxi ride from JFK we arrived at the Manhattan at around 8pm on the 22nd December. The reception area was buzzing with people arriving and checking out and the staff dealt with everyone in a cool calm and professional manner. The room we were given was on the 20th floor (2039) and after a quick check in we took the lift to the 20th floor.
The room was clean and yes a little tied but so were we and after a good night sleep we were ready for the streets of New York City. Now here's the thing, we had just stayed at the Venetian (Las Vegas) and the Hard Rock Hotel (San Diego) and we both agreed that the bed in the room was better than both of them!!! The room was not a grand BUT, we were not here to stay in the room we were tourists and tourists like to see the sights. All the comments about the renovation works in the foyer, please people get a life. The works do not affect any part of checking in or checking out and no doubt when completed it will look great.
If I had one small comment (constructive), the room was a little to hot and to get cool we would open the window but then you could here the street noise. This was my 3rd visit to this amazing city and I would definately choose the Manhattan again. The management and staff should be congratulated on dealing with such large amounts of people during the Christmas week with such calmness and professionalism. Have a Nice Day.

Room Tip: Get a room on the 20th or above for a good nights sleep

Though the hotel was being renovated, it was still full of charm! Staff were helpful, especially Alison at check in who was very personable and welcoming. We had been upgraded to a renovated room on the 22nd floor with an amazing view out onto Times Square. Room was very clean as was the bathroom, and the hotel's housekeeper (also very friendly) kept the room in superb condition. It was the perfect place to crash after shopping and sight seeing. The grab and go breakfast was also charming, and great to get you going in the morning without wasting any time!
Location is key for this hotel!! Is so close to everything, walking distance to Times Square, Central Park, 5th Avenue, David H. Koch theatre and subway lines for places further afield.
Was the perfect hotel for my friend and I on our first trip to New York City. Thanks so much, hope to be back soon and will definitely be back to The Manhattan.

They are in the throws of renovating this hotel. The location is excellent; close to all the sights, but would wait for the renovations to be done before I would go back. It's clean, but old. The rooms definitely need to be updated, as do the linens, towels and amenities. No restaurants on the premises, but they did offer a "grab & go" breakfast set up in the lobby. I thought that since the renovations are on-going, the price for the room should have been adjusted downward because of the noise and mess in the lobby and other areas.

Room Tip: Mid to higher floors are quieter and you don't hear the construction noise.

We traveled to NY for the first time in May. We booked everything through Expedia. We went 4 people and stayed in 2 separate rooms. One was newly renovated while the other was not. The room that was renovated was nice, the bed was comfy, and there was a nice flat screen tv, not to mention we had a great view over times square. The other room however was quite disappointing. as mentioned in other reviews, it just needed some renovations and would be much better.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect and very affordable for NY. In all it was a decent experience. We did not eat at the restaurant or use the pool if there was one. Too much to do in NY that we didn't get the chance.

I booked through "name your own price" on priceline. I was a little nervous about going there after reading the reviews, but we had a great experience here. Check in was quick. The room had a spectacular view of time square. The bed was comfortable. The room was spotless as well as the bathroom. The lobby was being renovated, so it was torn apart. The hallways were older and worn looking. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: We were on the 21st floor! The view from the room was awesome.

I understand the renovations and expected dust in the lobby and some issues. However, the bed sheets are old and stained and the towels have black stains as well. The room is very outdated as well.

The towels should be changed immediately. The towels the hotel provides are small towels and used to be white but now are grey from the dirt. I do not understand how or why they have not changed these to new towels. This is supposedly a 3 star hotel and the 3rd party site rated this hotel as a 3.5 star, however I would not consider this a 3 star hotel.

It's a good deal for the price but they need to replace the bed sheets and the towels.
