“Great welcome after horrid airline problems”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

Just a huge thank you to the welcome that Mollie gave us. Our Delta flight had been delayed six hours due to mechanical errors, luggage lost, and we had nothing. Mollie welcomed us, was able to make arrangements with a staff member’s personal phone charger to get my phone charged, two complimentary drinks for me and my roommate, and gave us some personal items so we could at least brush teeth while waiting on baggage. A horrid day ended extremely pleasantly---thank you.

Room Tip: Go for the club level upgrade---very convenient! Select upper floors as well.

This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The woman who checked us in for what they call 'pre registration' was incredibly rude and helpful. You have to queue and pay to store luggage. The hotel lobby is always filled with thousands of people and it's a circus. A lot of airline staff stay there so it's busy beyond anything I have ever seen. When we checked into our room, the toilet was dirty and we had to switch rooms. The plus side, when we checked in 'properly', Edward at the reception desk more than compensated for the rude woman who did pre-reg. He was kind, courteous and very helpful and made us feel at home and comfortable. If you stay at this hotel, ask for him specifically. The people at the concierge desk are also quite helpful. The rooms are a decent size and nicely furnished. The cleaning staff may barge into your room uninvited and they make a lot of noise in the morning and may wake you up. Not sure I would ever stay here again. The breakfast is completely over priced as is the use of WiFi in your room. The location which the hotel cannot do anything about is severely crazy. When I go back to NYC I will be staying either in Soho or Greenwich Village, it's a lot calmer and by far more beautiful.

This Sheraton property has a great location in Midtown Manhattan. Well maintained with a nice bar off the lobby. Stayed there on trip to Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Very satisfied with the overall experience.

It's an OK business hotel. Great location. some upscale touches that aren't fully carried out. Higher end finishes but wallpaper peeling at the edges. Comfortable beds. Great staff and nice club level lounge. Small rooms and NO water pressure. They do have Wifi.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side have Hudson river views. Club level is worth it!

We took a trip to NY to do the bucket list item of being in Times Square on NYE. The hotel is nicely decorated but the building is clearly a bit old. The updates are decent but the rooms are very small, bathroom is pretty basic, ... As you would expect, the place was super-crowded up to and after NYE, the lobby being a swarm of people constantly. They only have 4 elevators which for a place with this many rooms is not enough at peak times. Waits for the elevators could be many minutes most of the day.

The hotel is at 7th and 52nd so pretty close to Times Square (but there are some places a bit closer). We had no view of anything (room on the 7th floor) and not sure the place has a view of the square (maybe on the higher floors) due to the buildings in between.

Probably the biggest complaint I have for the hotel was the noise level. Not the outside noise (although there was that but it is NY so you should expect some street noise). The hallway noise was really bad. The halls are paneled and any noise echoes down the hall. The maids tend to get started pretty early and seem to love yelling back and forth at each other so unless you can sleep through an explosion you are waking up when they show up, do not disturb sign or not. Also, the doors are all heavily sprung so that they shut behind you but they do it with a big "bang" so again you are going to be woken up morning or night by neighbors.

I haven't stayed in other places in NY so this may not be unusual but having traveled a lot internationally it was definitely far louder and less restful than most places I have stayed.

I stayed here for just one night 1/6. Hotel location is perfect for Times Square attractions! Hotel is modern and clean and good sized rooms for NYC!
Check in was easy, efficient AND friendly. Two gals were extremely pleasant and helpful. Front doorman was also pleasant. Assisted us with valet and some local suggestions.

Now the one BIG downfall....THE LOBBY BAR. It was so cold out and we were excited to just park ourselves at the bar for a few drinks while staying warm. Unfortunately the bar staff was so exceptionally rude that didn't get to happen. Well I guess rude is not the right word as normally you need to speak to be rude. Bar staff NEVER spoke to us. Except once when he sasses my friend for correcting him that she ordered her drink as a martini in which he stated "you want a martini glass?" No she wanted her drink shaken in the shaker wIth ice then poured into a martini glass the way a martini is made. Really? He never turned around back to me to take my drink order altering making a face that my initial order was a water. (We had just come on from taping of Letterman and I wanted a water to catch my breath. Had every intention of ordering a drink if I had been given the chance). So as two other bartenders joined this one and talke amongst themselves with backs to us, and played on their phones we decided they weren't interested in having us at their bar. So we cashed out and moved across the street to O'Gradys were we spent a lot of money but got treated like we were wanted. Oh and when the bartender gave my friend her change, it was a dollar bill and a five. Really? This experience wasn't worthy of a $5 tip but had she had proper change he would've got a proper tip.

Ps/we did eat at Hudson Burger later that evening. Staff was friendly and it was a dam good burger!

So hotel is great, lobby bar NOT. Remove the lobby bar experience and I likely would've given higher stars, but the experience was just that bad!

Happy New Year!
