I just spend 2 nights at a hotel with the most noise I have ever heard from the streets below. There is a central Fire Station next door and you can hear fire trucks being dispatched all night long with sirens screaming. There was a ton of other noise from construction and police cars as well. I think the windows are very old and need to be replaced to sound proof the rooms.BTW I was on the 21st floor so I can not imagine how bad it was on the 3 or 4th floor!!

Dear KRG1152,

Thank you for your review of the Affinia Manhattan.

Although the location is great, there is surrounding NYC activity can be, at times, slightly loud. I have sent you a message through Trip Advisor. Hopefully we can discuss this matter and provide some resolution for you.

All the Best,

Nice big room. Nice staff. Perfect location. The room was clean and made up every day. The bathroom is quite small but functional. Very good bed. A bit noisy but is to be that is to be expected on 7th avenue, 31st street.

Just stayed at the Affinia and we were really impressed. The Staff were extremely helpful and we benefitted from a free room upgrade on arrival. Location couldn't be better, just opposite Maddison Square Garden / Penn Station and a short walk uptown to Time Square. Noise wasn't an issue as such, but it is New York and the city is always buzzing - get used to sirens and car horns. Bottom line enjoyed the stay and would stay there again!

We stayed here for five nights, the first night was a Sunday and apart from normal Manhattan noise we managed to sleep. The next night we were kept awake by building noise , a very insistent drill was not allowing any sleep. At 3a.m. We contacted reception who were very sympathetic and we were sent keys to another quieter and much nicer room. We moved and managed to sleep well for the rest of our stay, we knew that some noise was to be expected but this was so bad that we would have moved hotels if we hadnt been given a new room. I was impressed by the staff and their helpfulness. At times there are long queues at reception which can cause problems.
The first room we hadhadanumber of petty faults, a poor seal round the air conditioner, a sliding door off it's tracks and an open electrics box. The second was much better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room atthe back of the hotel.

I had visited the hotel about three years ago and it was one of a handful of older bigger hotels in New York that had seen better days. I had heard of a lot of upgrades and changes - something you hear often, but I am happy to say that I just got back from New York and was happily surprised to find a hotel at which you could see how they spent (and continue to) their money - and not just in a snazzy lobby. The rooms were good sized, the staff was very friendly, the location was perfect, the pricing was agreeable and the meeting spaces looked great. We are going to hold a conference there next year and bring a lot of people with us to stay and looking at different rooms was part of the trip. Even the room they showed me as their "small" room was a good size. The meeting spaces were modern, well built and flowed nicely from space to space. It is not the W and of course , not priced at that level either, but this is a solid good hotel that I would come back to with my family without thinking twice. There is even a kitchen in some of the rooms - great for in room breakfast before you go out and experience New York. Thumbs up. New York is expensive enough and there is a million things to spend your money on, you don't need to spend it all on your hotel ! Good to know that there is good fair value to be found. When you travel a lot for business, it is so easy to remember and focus on all the negative things you come across, its nice to be able to write something nice !

Room Tip: ask if they have a room with a kitchen - there are also a few rooms with a private balcony!

They gave us this huge 2-double room that fit 3 of us perfectly. I also like the free 1 hour wifi in the lobby. We also ate at Niles. Food and food is excellent. The location to Penn Station and Times Square is unbeatable. We walked back from 2 broadway shows.

I like just about everything about this hotel. The service is great, the restaurant is good (although a little more pricey my usual), the rooms are HUGE by NYC standards, and many rooms have kitchens. The only downside (for me) is the lobby renovation -- I think the main seating feature in the lobby is ugly (but that's personal taste). One of the best things is that the Affinia Manhattan is frequently about the same price as the Hampton Inn up the street. Oh, and free wine at happy hour!
