The location was great and it had a small boutique feeling about it. The restaurant was great and very reasonably price, staff were friendly and helpful. Room was good, just what we expected. Would definitely stay there again.

Spacious
Pretty good location if your ok with subway
Courteous staff
Budget friendly with special disc

Cons:
Window air conditioner is loud
27th floor is still loud
Hotel is old and it shows

If I needed the space I would come back. The affinia Dumont was nicer and better located

Of all the hotels we've stayed at in NYC, none have been in a better location. Across the street from MSG and Penn Station and about 2 blocks from Herald Square. You can get to about anywhere from those 2 subway stations. The hotel itself is really nice and we experienced excellent service. We've stayed at 3 Affinia hotels and we keep coming back.

We booked the Affinia Manhattan for its location at the heart of the tourist area, at least what I consider to be the tourist area. The hotel staff was courteous and seemed like they really cared about their guests.. We drove in which meant we had to park our car, at the cost of $55 for a 24 hour period it was not too bad considering it's New York City.

Our Room was on the fourth floor facing 7th ave right across from Penn station and MSG. walking distance from Time Square and the Theatre District. The room was small but clean.

We enjoyed out stay and hope to make it back in the future.

Dear Drew S,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your review and share your Affinia Manhattan story here on Tripadvisor.

I have to say that you are absolutely correct - we are in the heart of it all - with Madison Square Garden being across the street and Times Square being just blocks away, you can be sure that there is no dull moment in the area.

Thank you for choosing Affinia Manhattan and I look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We booked our honeymoon via Virgin Holidays and this hotel was recommended to us on several occasions by the travel agents. Naturally, because we had not been to America before, we trusted in the staff and stayed here... we were not disappointed one bit!

I had been quite ill on the flight and arrived at the hotel in a bit of a mess. Luckily the hotel is right opposite Penn Station, so I didn't have far to go after getting off the Air Train. Straight away the staff were very aware and understanding of my situation and made sure that my husband was dealt with very quickly in order for us to get straight to the room and for me to get to bed. The hotel lobby (as much as I didn't really take it in on arrival) was stunning; very clean and well cooled in the New York humidity. Our room was on the 13th floor and we had a superior room. The décor was very modern and somewhat colourful, and although the room wasn't as big as English hotels tend to be, we had plenty of space. There was a large bed, a sofa, a chair and an office space off to the left of the room. We overlooked the back of the hotel, but had a lovely view of a church. The bathroom was very small, but hey, you don't spend much time in there! It was clean and served it's purpose.

Having never been to New York before, we didn't really know where to start with booking excursions; this was where the hotel concierge was a big help! Her name was Marina and she was extremely friendly and gave us quite a few options about what trips we could book out. She gave good advice on how to travel and was more than happy to advise on costs of different options. We certainly didn't get that typical feeling of them only giving you the option that gives them the best cut.

Food wise, we only ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast wasn't included in our room rate, but we were more than happy to pay for it as extra. Waiting staff were very respectful and courteous; they couldn't do enough for us (even to the point of offering to pour tea when we wanted it - which being English, we weren't used to!). The food was very good; I wasn't as keen on the cooked breakfast, but I have never been a fan anyway. There was a very good selection however, in the continental option.

Overall, our stay here was everything we had hoped for. The only downside was that as the sir conditioning unit it set into the window, it let a bit of noise in; but to be completely honest I loved being able to hear some of the hustle and bustle of New York, I am a very light sleeper and it never bothered me once! We will definitely be staying here if we ever come to New York again.

Room Tip: We stayed towards the back of the hotel overlooking a church, but I can't remember what number...

Dear Rebecca C,

What a joy it was to read your lovely review! Thank you for choosing Affinia Manhattan for such a special occasion in your life. Understandably, choosing a hotel in a city that you have not visited before is not an easy job, however, I'm delighted to see that we excceded your expectations, even more so since you cannot wait to visit us again. For all the upcoming anniversary celebrations and all other milestones, do not look any further than your home away from home, Affinia Manhattan.

Wishing you all the best on your recent nuptials!

Sincerely,
Alex Spektor

Very convenient location as it is right across from Penn Station on 31st & 7th Ave. The rooms are clean and very large especially for NY standards. Bathrooms are on the small size. The best is the service you receive from the doorman to the front desk (James was fantastic) including the bellman. The room attendants will go out of their way to help in any way. Everyone is very professional and super friendly!

Room Tip: If you are there for any length of time chose a suite. Higher floors have less noise.

Ideal location, it was close to 'times square', the 'hop on hop off' bus stops and 'new york pass' pick up points!

TIP: We were on a 4 night stay at the hotel and decided to pre-purchase the new york pass with hop-on hop-off (citysites line - blue buses) travel included $189 per adult. This hotel was close to the pick up point for the new york pass and the bus stops along the routes. (When picking up the pass, they suggested we pay for the VIP upgrade, $25 each which meant you could also travel on the grayline - red buses, get priority boarding and a free ticket to a comedy show. To be honest, we didn't need it, we didn't have time for the comedy show and the citysites buses were regular enough - so didn't use a gray line bus once. It wasn't busy enough to need to jump a queue either even over the weekend!)

The night before travel I read the recent hotel reviews for August and was horrified by the negativity. However, we had a fine stay at the hotel!

The staff were very friendly, there was free wi-fi in the Lobby (strong enough to face-time people back in the UK - but skype was a little slow) The room was very large, nicely decorated and as reviews said it had a small (but functional) bathroom - but when you have a city like New York to explore...you don't need a large bathroom!

The reviews were right about the tiling in the showers being a little tired...but most bathrooms would be if there were getting that amount of use!...the shower was fairly powerful and helped ease back pain (from all the exploring we did!)

The wine hour happens Mon-Thursday - so sadly we missed out on this.

Niles restaurant was wonderful with lovely food and staff....you get 20% off if you give them your room number.

We stayed in room 20 on floor 24 (of 28.) You could hear some traffic/fire engine sounds (it is a busy city that never sleeps after all) - but it wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews were making out ....go exploring all day, tire yourself out and you shouldn't have a problem sleeping - I didn't even use the ear plugs (provided in bedside cabinet) and I'm a light sleeper! All lifts were working perfectly! Air conditioning may seem a bit old, but works brilliantly and has loads of different settings!

Overall, we were very happy with the hotel....go and enjoy NYC!!!!!

p.s. in the room....hair dryer (bathroom drawer), ironing board and iron (closet by door), fridge, safe, earplugs, loads of towels/flannels, shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/soap/body lotion.
