“I Love the Alqonquin”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

This place is so charming. Was my room small? Yes. But that's okay. Everyone there was helpful and cheery, and having a drink in the lobby is fabulous. (I also had a club sandwich in the lobby, which was also fabulous.) The place has clearly been renovated -- the front desk looks weirdly stuck in the 80s -- but the rooms are still charming and cozy and VERY New York. Location is great, too. This is where I stay when I book my own trips to NYC for pleasure.

We all know: New York hotel rooms are small, receptionists sometimes rude, noise unbearable, decoration tasteless, and always too expensive. Not so at the Algonquin, one of the, if not the oldest hotel in town. Smiling door man, smiling reception girls, smiling waiters, nice rooms, nice breakfast, posh atmosphere but not overloaded, and a great location.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous from the time to step foot in the lobby. It feels like you stepped back in time, but everything is completely up to date. The bathroom in the room is small but luxurious, with great water pressure in the shower and L'Occitane bath products. The bed and bed linens are wonderful, and they even have a makeup mirror on the desk so that you can get ready while someone else is in the bathroom. The staff is exceptional as well. Free Starbucks in the business center is a nice plus. I would highly recommend for all travelers.

Recently had a lovely stay at this hotel. The service from the hotel staff whether it be for check in, room service, daily cleaning of the room was top notch. The location in midtown Manhattan is very central and one is able to walk to Broadway shows, Rockefeller Center, shopping etc.
The room itself was nicely appointed with first class amenities included e.g. in the bathroom and the bed. Would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat.

This hotel was recently renovated and we selected this particular hotel based on this as well as the premier location. The Algonquin is steps from Times Square - literally 2 blocks, without being in the center of the hustle and bustle of the city. The room was spacious, but I would recommend an upgrade from the base room, which is what we did to ensure spacious accommodations. We learned while staying at this hotel that is is also a hotel of choice for the local New Yorkers who stop by for dinner, drinks and even later in the night they enjoy the ambiance of the Blue Bar. This is a bar that is located within the hotel and has very nice blue lighting and a great lounge atmosphere. We highly recommend The Strip House for an excellent dinner, which is conveniently located three doors down from this hotel. The hotel is convenient to another restaurant we highly recommend, Joe Allen. Joe Allen is a great dinner option before or after seeing a Broadway or Off Broadway show. This location is also steps from Rockefeller Center, and just a half block from Fifth Avenue and another block away from Madison Avenue, which are both great for shopping! We couldn't have been more pleased with the services provided by the hotel staff as well. They were all friendly and accommodating and seemed to truly care about our stay and experience. All in all, we were very happy with our stay and will be returning to The Algonquin - a boutique hotel experience by Marriott!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in a quite location of the hotel on a high floor

Just stayed here for a night but fell in love with it. Small but welcoming and intimate rooms with nice, comfy bed. So charmed by the wallpaper in the corridors. The lounge was so nice and classy. Love to hang out there with a drink and soak in all the history. Of course, the location was also really good. Couldn't have picked a better hotel in New York!!!

Perfect location for all the things I wanted to see and do. And from check in to check out the staff is awesome. And I love the old charm of the building yet they have managed to modernize it with pour taking that charm away. I will definitely stay again.
