We spent last weekend at the Algonquin and were very pleased with the renovated room, which although small was perfectly designed (plenty of mirrors, very nice lighting) and a lovely well equipped bathroom. Toiletries were lovely (Occitane). It is located ideally .. We walked to the theaters, etc. All of the employees .. Bell men, front desk, and bar waiter ..we're top notch.

This hotel is little changed from years past when writers from the New Yorker magazine and others rested here in the lobby. That wonderful "air" still remains today, although at far higher prices. The lobby is a great place to meet for a drink and try to convince the server that you are a budding novelist or something. Rooms are small and tight, but the beds typically great Marriott type. Elits members get to have their breakfast etc in a "secret room" off the lobby. Just a really pleasant experience as one of the Marriott Autograph Hotels.

Very comfy bed and great shower! Staff friendly and helpful. Midtown location means it doesn't take that long to get anywhere else in the city. Quiet room as not on street side of hotel. Room was good size, nice bathroom refit. Would recommend!

I stayed here on a business trip to NY. The location cannot be beat. I was able to walk to my client's office in midtown as well as to theatres, shopping and tourist attractions. The room was clean and comfortable. The business centre is on the 2/F and is accessible with a key card. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. If you like history, this is really a must visit. Everyone gets a free copy of the New Yorker, and there are little bits of literary history tucked away here and there. I loved the old mail chutes on every floor. I had martinis in the lobby with friends; the drinks were strong and the atmosphere wonderful. There is a Duane Reade store around the corner that's open 24/7 where you can get just about anything you need. On the downside: when I asked for an adaptor (I'm an international traveller) I had to buy one from the Duane Reade around the corner, Also, price of breakfast is very high. I recommend the Red Flame diner next door for breakfast. I was also thrilled to meet Matilda, the resident feline, at 1 am in the lobby. I would recommend this for business, solo travellers and couples. Most kids wont appreciate it.

I was very impressed with this hotel. My boyfriend and I took a long weekend in New York and were very much looking forward to the stay here. Being fans of the literary folks that made up he round table it was great to imagine them gathering in the lovely main area, having a lively discussion. The renovations are lovely. They've kept nicely with the time period and the comfort was wonderful. Excellent water pressure and the bathroom was bigger than it looked in the hotel pictures which was a bonus. The rooms don't really feel too small--we didn't stay in them for all that long. But we slept well on the very comfortable bed. Being in the city you do hear the sounds but it wasn't bad and there are ear plugs available if needed. We never saw the resident cat, but it was fun to imagine her wandering around the nooks and crannies of the hotel. We had an excellent meal in the dining room one evening. We ordered off the pre-show menu and had a very well prepared, well flavored meal. The service over all at the hotel is wonderful and dining was no different. There are great amenities such as a gym for trying to work off all the wonderful food, a good business area and coffee and ice tea available both in the lobby and coffee up on the second floor. I would very much recommend this hotel for its romance, comfort and location.

Room Tip: I'm not sure what the views would be on higher floors but there wasn't much of a view from o...

Greetings and thank you for taking time to comment on your recent Algonquin Hotel visit, we appreciate your business. The Algonquin is a great place for an authentic New York experience, the literati that have populated the hotel since 1902 serve as an anchor of the hotel’s rich history. We are glad you took advantage of the many amenities we offer including the second floor coffee bar, fitness center and a rather well priced price fixed pre-theater dinner menu. The cool beverage you note is available for our weekend guests only and the concoction varies throughout the year.

A note about our green features, we do handle linens as you mention and as most other hotels also practice. You may have overlooked our duel flush toilets that allow you to decide how much water is needed to take care of waste removal, very cutting edge in the US at this time!

We look forward to your return to The Algonquin!

Great little historic hotel in the heart of Times Square. Spent a night here last weekend and enjoyed it very much. Rooms are a little on the small side which is typically in any big city but very clean and newly renovated. Unlimited coffee on the 2nd floor 24hours a day just to give you that little pep in the afternoon. The Blue Bar next door is very trendy and worth passing by.

I adore period and historic hotels. The Algonquin is both...early 1900's and hang-out for Dorothy Parker and her literary pals including the founder of The New Yorker Magazine. The wallos are papered in New Yorker cartoons!!!Rooms are small; bathrooms even smaller with limited shelf space but then there is the window sill and floor. Great bar but no more jazz; period furnishings and a hotel CAT. The Harvard and Penn Clubs are nearer to sixth avvenue. Get south on fifth avenue by bus

Room Tip: High floor away from elevator

Greetings and thank you for your comments about The Algonquin Hotel, which are appreciated. Actually the ‘New Yorker’ magazine designed cartoon wallpaper did cover the walls in our corridors entirely from 1998 to 2011. Since the 2012 guts to décor renovation, sections of the Bob Mankoff designed wall covering were cropped, matted and framed on each guest room floor for all to enjoy. Today we also have a series of historic ‘New Yorker’ magazine covers that are framed and appear in all guest room corridors, this is all a tribute to the magazine being founded at The Algonquin in 1925. The hotel still places a weekly copy of the magazine in each guest room too! Harold Ross was the founder and publisher of the magazine until his passing in 1951 and there is a suite named in his honor at the hotel.
Please plan to return to the Algonquin and see what else you can discover on your next trip!
