Royalton New York Hotel
Ranked #273 of 473 Hotels in New York City
Reviewed 25 June 2012

We stayed here for four nights in June. It's an excellent location. 2min walk from the heart of Times Square, close to empire state building, and no where to central park. I've heard so many bad stories about hotels in times square with regard to cleanliness. The royalton feels very clean and comfortable. Doesn't have the big box dirty hotel feel. The rooms are average size for NYC, plenty of room for myself and my wife. Yes the lobby is dark, but it's just the style they went with. We loved it. Quiet, luxurious hotel with great service. ANYONE that I know going to NYC I will be sending them to the Royalton!!!

This is one of the best hotels in midtown. An oasis of calm and quality. There rooms are clean and the staff is accomodating. Went there for a long weekend recently and loved all the pampering they provided. The ipad in each room for your personal use ... isn't bad either. My husband and I love it here. Would highly recommend this place for a getaway weekend treat.

Room Tip: ask for an upgrade. Larger room on top floor away from elevators. Careful about valet parking. Ho...

after a really bad experience with a rented apartment my bf decided to transfer us for the last 4 nights to this hotel and it was so good.
it felt very private, not too much staff constantly saying hello etc, but still very helpful, friendly and attentive.
room 718, was big and comfortable. bathroom great! bed AMAZING! only thing missing was more light in the bathroom for make up for us ladies, but you can get an extra lamp from the front desk if you need it. fab toiletries. bathrobe, slippers... i could go on.
the bar in the lobby is very tastefully decorated and the whole appearance of the hotel is cool. i will stay there again, even though the location is a bit boring if- its a good spot though to be between EV, LES and Central Park, but i would never hang out in the area (maybe except from Bryant park). luckily subway is really close.

Room Tip: room 718 was nice and big.

We stayed at this hotel in June 2011. It was in a great location - centrally located close to Times Square (about a 5 min walk). The rooms were not too big (although I understand that is standard in NYC) but they were nicely decorated. We were upgraded one category upon check-in which was a nice surprise! There was really no view outside as we faced an alley with taller buildings. The staff were very helpful and the concierge provided us with good recommendations for restaurants and places to visit.

As others have mentioned, the hotel hallways are a bit tight and the lighting is not that great (although that is part of the "trendy" vibe). We didn't eat at the restaurant(s) in the hotel, but they seemed to be fairly busy on weekend evenings (not as much during the weekdays).

In short, this is a great trendy hotel that is close to the action in NYC (but not right in Times Square where it can be a bit noisy). It wasn't cheap but seemed better price wise than other comparable hotels in the City.

Room Tip: Choose a room further away from the elevators

Staff were amazing , very accommodating. Doormen/Concierge also really helpful and friendly. Rooms were very sparse but lovely and clean. Bring a torch to do your makeup! They do not have much lighting in the room and not much closet/drawer space. But all in all great centrally located hotel, ideal for Times Square and shopping......just if the hotel reading! buy some more dressers or closet and illuminate mirrors!!! oh and breakfast very expensive ....we choose the diner across road called the red flame ...breakfast there amazing!!!

Room Tip: make sure you ask for idea of closet space before u arrive!

My wife and I spent five days here to celebrate my retirement and 60th Birthday.
If you are looking for the traditional chain type hotel this may not appeal. It exudes atmosphere from the moment you walk through the door. Great service from Dino at the front door to the helpful and welcoming staff at check in. We were in our room within minutes of arriving.
Modern and spacious rooms with all you could need including an iPad. A nice touch. Beds and pillows very comfortable.Cleanliness first class. Bathroom good but limited space around basin just to set things out. Hair drying for my wife was awkward as she had to rest hairdryer in the basin !!
Great Bar and meeting place in lobby. Hotel just nicely positioned. Times Square, Broadway, Fifth Avenue and Rockafeller Centre all within a few minutes walk.
Would definitely stay again and have no hesitation in recommending.

Room Tip: Ask for room with street view.

My husband and I stayed at the Royalton this past weekend and our experience was first class from arrival to departure. Every staff member we encountered (doormen, bellhop, front desk...) was friendly and courteous. The location of the hotel for Broadway is perfect (we walked to the theater and dinner). Once you enter the hotel, the frenzy of Times Square is forgotten as the lobby is so serene, quiet and peaceful. We relaxed on the comfortable couches and enjoyed a drink before dinner. This was our second time at the hotel and we have recommended it to all our friends.
