“LOVED IT!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2012

We stayed here from Aug. 16 - 19 and loved it. We had to change hotels for our last night (we extended our trip but The Royalton was full and we had to book elsewhere) and we were sorely disappointed to leave. This hotel is in an excellent location - we were close to the shows, shopping, The Rock, great restaurants and the subway. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. This is a great hotel for fun couples or groups of friends. Very chic and cool. The lobby is dark like a night club and there is a bar at the front entrance and towards the back. The room was very clean. Some of the highlights included: the IPad with free WIFI in every room, a dressing table in the bathroom for getting ready to go out, matches in the bathroom for smoking cigars outside, and the best shower I have ever had in my life anywhere. There was also a bottle opener/wine opener provided in the room so no searching around for one. This hotel is close to everywhere you want to be but without the craziness and noisiness of Times Square. We will definitely stay here on our next trip to NYC!

My husband and I travelled to NYC for a 2nd honeymoon and stayed 3 nights at the Royalton. The hotel is perfectly situated - central to all of the sites but off the major thoroughfares (e.g., Times Square) so to be 'quieter' for sleeping.

The room was very clean, quite spacious for NYC, and the bed was comfortable. We especially enjoyed all the little extras available (incl. in-room medicine and intimacy kits - great ideas!). We also took advantage of the in-room iPad - this came in very handy for mapping out our routes and restaurant plans.

Finally, the staff were all very nice and helpful. Very accommodating and eager to help wherever possible.

I have been a fan of the Royalton since the eighties. I was going there when it was the place to be seen and party like a rock star. Now I am a 44 yo father who frequents this hotel with my family or just with my wife for a weekend escape. Either way the Royalton exceeds once again.

I have seen it's inception and it's renovations over the years. The change of staff as well. Each renovation has been outstanding and especailly the lobby. The staff gets better all the time.

Yes the lobby and halls are dark. Quit complaining. It was meant to be. It creates the vibe.

We needed two rooms last minute as travel plans changed and they were able to help out. Price is always right there. We were even upgraded to a Penthouse with a huge balcony that the kids were crazy over. So lucky!

The concierge once again pulled a miracle for us and got us a table for 6 at Tao in the afternoon and Carmines for dinner. Having a concierge with real connections in NYC is worth it's wait in gold.

This is not a cookie cutter hotel. The rooms are unique. The bathrooms are too. The round showers and soaking tubs are unlike anything you have ever seen. The furniture is cool.

Providing an Ipad in every room is great incase you need it. You can leave yours at home and spend time with the people you are with and enjoy NYC and all the Royalton has to offer.

44th between 5th and 6th is the ULTIMATE NYC address.

Room Tip: The loft suites are really cool and have a large wall to wall sofa and a fireplace. If available, th...

I took my girlfriend to New York City for her 21st Birthday and after many hours of mind numbing research I settled on The Royalton. The hotel doesn't look much from the outside but once you step inside the huge doors, there is an elegant, sexy feel that flows through the hotel. The reception is glamorous, dark and mysterious with dim lighting to create a romantic, calm effect. The staff at reception could not of been more helpful and were incredibly friendly and attentatative. Our room was probably, no, actually was the best we have ever stayed in, a funky bathroom with a bath as big as most beds, and a shower head the size of an 18 wheeler truck, which made for a very refreshing cleanse after a busy day exploring the city (shopping in my girlfriends eyes). The location is unbeatable, a minutes walk from the designer stores of Abercrombie, Ted Baker and Dolce and Gabana of 5th Avenue, and a 3 minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Times Square. We are already planning a trip back over Christmas, as this hotel would be the perfect place to unwind with a glass of red, in the hot tub and in front of the fireplace!

Stayed here for four nights. The location is excellent as it is within eay walking distance of Times Square, Rockerfeller Centre etc. Also very convenient to subway stations for travelling further. The decor of the hotel is awful. Far too dark and oppressive in the lobby. There are lots of seating areas but one does not feel like sitting in them as the whole atmosphere is dark and gloomy. The "reception desk", more a hatch, is hard to find. It is a gap in a wall of wood! Waiting for the lifts is also dark and gloomy. Needs much more lighting to make it feel welcoming. The room was of average size but a few quibbles. Had to ask three times to get the ipad working. There was no comfortable chair in the room....just a stool and a desk chair. The bathroom was big enough but absolutely no storage or shelf space for toilitries. The floor was the only option. Space around the sink was non existent. Also it was amazing that there was no fan....the bathroom got VERY syeamed up once two (or even one) person/people had a shower. AC was effective but noisy at night.
Would have benefitted from having a coffee maker in the room.
The bell boys were very good and happily assisted with luggage and its storage.
Prices in the hotel restraunt seemed high and being dark did not really fancy eating there. excellent diner directly across the road for breakfast and carry out coffee. Also a very good coffee shop a few doors to the left.
Overall the hotel was fine as we were in it very little but the darkness is not at all welcoming.

Room Tip: All seem to look out on buildings and are off very narrow corridors

I am glad you enjoyed our central location and helpful bell staff. Although I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy our décor and felt our overall ambiance was too dark. We pride ourselves in creating unique guest experiences however we also realize that our design may not be for everyone.

Let me first say we spent only $234 a night and that was a great value for what we got.
The lobby is very dark and glamorous. It's actually a bit much. You could use a flashlight to find the elevator. The lobby is dotted with small lights and guests hunched over them squinting to read.
We had a great room with a corner view. The theme seemed to be a luxury liner and the rooms were decked out cabins. They were not large but we don't expect that in NYC. The bed was very comfortable;the shower was great. some quibbles-
The theme of low lighting continued in the room with inadequate lights for reading. The Trendy iPad for ordering services is more annoying than helpful. I ordered turn down service via IPad .it never happened. The iPad room service is missing half the menu ..
As far as room service, try to avoid it.i ordered a cookie and tea and coffee .it was $46! You are in midtown Manhattan-you can get anything steps from the hotel.
All in all, i stayed 4 days and I was very comfortable. Highly recommended ,

Room Tip: Ask for a bright corner room or at least bright.

I am pleased you enjoyed our very comfortable beds and warm welcoming showers. I am sorry to hear that the in-room iPad did not provide a full room service menu and that your turn down service request was not met. Upon reading your review we corrected the room service menu and looked into the turn down request. I hope you will give us another chance and stay with us again the next time you are in town.

One word:Rebekah. Front desk agent extraordinaire. The royalton hotel is a hidden gem. You stroll into a dark sexy and intimate lobby perfect for pre club drinks or a first date . The check in area is tiny but the hotel is beautiful in its design. Rebekah went above and beyond in resolving some issues we had at check in.I've stayed at numerous hotels through the years and she provided the best front desk service I be ever received bar none. She even sent us a complimentary bottle of wine and cookies to help us relax after what she knew was a stressful day. John the bellman was also wonderful. He put up our luggage while we went shopping. Later on when I wanted milk to go with our cookies he made sure room service brought it up. We got an alcove suite. The round soaking tub is amazing. The room is quite spacious and clean. It's done in clean gray and neutrals. I prefer a bit more color but found the room nicely appointed nonetheless. I cannot emphasizehow great the staff is. Make sure to grab a drink at the bar. The bartenders are nice to look at ,friendly but best of all they are great mixologists. Wonderful location close to shopping, theaters and many restaurants and bars. Excellent stay, immensely enjoyed. Thank you Rebekah ,john and th3 royalton hotel for a relaxing and memorable stay. My go to hotel in nyc from now on.
