I've stayed here three times in the last 2 years. Great staff. Yummy bar appetisers and decent restaurant food. Artsy, comfortable rooms. Nice bathrooms. Best hotel shower in a long time. Rooms a bit on the starkly modern side, lots of cold gray. A bit depressing if it's a cloudy or overcast day. A/C super efficient, room service does not stay open long enough for after-theatre. Best of all, you're close to the theatre district and Times Square without all the noise and crowds.
Night desk went out of their way to help us with some non-hotel issues.

Room Tip: The larger rooms are worth it. The hotel is a bit cramped (elevators are TINY), hallways very tiny...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Royalton. The location is good. It is only a few blocks from the theatre district but far enough away that it is quiet, and shopping is also within walking distance. The hotel has a buzz. It is a place where people meet so it has a lovely atmosphere unlike some places we have stayed where you think you may be the only people there.

The hotel is extremely well designed. Our room was comfortable and everything was of an excellent quality. The shower is especially good with a hand held attachment for massaging ones aches after a day walking.

We would like to thank the staff who were friendly and courteous. They went out of their way to meet our requests.

When it comes to deciding on an hotel in New York, we will stay at the Royalton.

Stayed here when in NY for a meeting. The lobby is very dark with loud music playing and the check in desks are small booth like things that aren't particularly well marked. The room was nice, very minimalist, good bed and linens and nice shower. One wall of the room was dominated by a large fireplace that didn't actually seem to work, which is probably a good thing if you dont want the hotel to burn down. Got a quick workout in at the very basic fitness center. Good location in midtown.

It's not the most functional place if you are staying for business. I would have thought it was a very cool place if I was traveling for pleasure and didnt really care if I couldn't exactly figure out how to turn the lights on over the bed when I needed to prepare for my meeting the next day. Also, even though internet was included in my rate, they didnt give met the internet key when I checked in and I had to request it from them, which was a bit of an aggravation needed to log on.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. I am pleased that you liked your room and appreciated the bed and linens as well as the shower. The fireplaces in our rooms are functional however only during the Winter months when the New York weather really demands additional warmth.

I hope you will have the opportunity to return to us perhaps when you are staying for fun rather than business! We look forward to welcoming you at that time.

Had a very enjoyable three night break in this quirky hotel. The location is perfect for the first time tourist, being at the heart of everything particulary Times Square, Rockerfeller Centre and Grand Central Station. Unusual rooms with average breakfast but very friendly and helpful staff. If you are just looking for a comfortable and trendy location with no pool and limited gym this is the place for you!

Room Tip: Seek quieter rooms not at the front due to traffic and trashmen at 4am. If you can afford it upgrade...

We stayed in the Royalton after our previous visit when we called for cocktails in the ground floor lounge. We loved the ambience so much that on our last visit we stayed in one of their suites. Corridors are dark but with a sexy feel to them. Our suite was spacious and made for a great holiday break. Would not hesitate to stay here again when back in NY.

Elegantly dark and moody, the Royalton manages to be simultaneously modern and decadent, cool and refined, classical and cutting-edge. If it doesn't offer much in the way of its old hallways (which, thanks to color and design, felt a bit too much like the lower decks of a battleship) it more than makes up for it with courteous service, an impressive lobby and lounge space, and two bars that bracket both entrances.
The rooms are more than adequate for a New York stay, even if some of the views are less than spectacular (you'll be glad for the curtains unless you're aiming to put on a show). Efficient use is made by the bed layout - as seen in the accompanying photos, each is housed flush with the walls, wasting no space, yet never feeling cramped or tight. A small desk in front of a window provides a welcome work-space, and a closet comes stocked with umbrellas, perfect for a weekend that threatened (but thankfully did not deliver) rain. Details like that (such as the candles that stood in both the bedroom and the bathroom - the latter of which came with a pack of matches) added a quirky element that was appreciated.
By far the best part was the impressive bathroom - large and spacious, especially for New York standards - it had one of the finest bath and shower fixtures I'd experienced: a large rain-style shower-head, coupled with a hand-held shower wand - both of which could be employed without losing a bit of water pressure. With an arsenal of Malin + Goetz toiletries, the shower was an indulgence that erased the filthiest grit of Times Square off any body.
Hint: A friendly concierge is on hand offering helpful tips for nearby restaurants, but do your homework as most of the suggestions were geared toward tourist-traps.

Modern and decadent, cool and refined, classical and cutting-edge – what a great description of the hotel! It sounds as though you really understand our design and ethos. I am delighted that you enjoyed so many aspects of both the guest room and the public areas and as you so rightly say our waterfall showers are definitely worth a special mention. We look forward to having you stay with us again next time you are in New York .

I stayed at The Royalton for one night, Friday into Saturday as I was in town for a conference. My husband came with, and I wasn't sure if we could have early check in since we arrived early morning to the hotel. The staff was terrific, friendly at that early hour. We not only checked in early but were upgraded to a larger room, which was quite spacious. I am however used to smaller rooms in new york so I understand what some reviewers mean when talking about smaller rooms.
Housekeeping does a great job here and deserves to be recognized for its efficiency and service. I do agree on two points brought up in other reviews. 1. The hotel with its chic city vibe is a little darker all around than im used to, but it works for them and the lobby is beautiful. 2. The sinks in the bathroom do tend to let too much water splash up onto the vanity, but two very small points. The hotel is comfortable, modern and has great service with a very convenient location. I would definitely stay here again.
