“A Good New York Experience”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria during the first week of December. The hotel is extremely busy at this time of year. The lobby is full of the crowds and excitement that comes with the events that are happening in New York during this time of year. I thought the hotel was adequately staffed for our stay but you do need to have patience if you have extra needs. The rooms were clean and the floor staff courteous. The location is very good but be careful to allow extra time for cab cues during the busy times. What I love about the hotel is that you can open the windows to get cool air into the room...as long as you can sleep with the typical sounds of New York. Don't expect great views from the rooms and rooms with king beds can be in short supply during this busy time. All in all, a good New York experience.

It was my first stay at the Waldorf and I hoe it's not my last. The hotel is elegant and the service was outstanding. My only complaint was the shower, the water stopped flowing mid shower and didn't return for about 3 minutes.

What an amazing hotel, my Wife and I stayed here between the 18th and 23rd of December and we were not disappointed. We booked the hotel as part of a British Airways deal and we arrived very late on the 18th December, which I think was ideal as reception was very quiet at that particular time. Check-in was easy and we stayed on the 10th floor. The hotel is ideally located in mid-town (approx. 10 mins to Grand Central) and it even formed part of our walking tour, which we had booked the next day. Our room was plenty big enough, with a safe in the room and there is free Wi-Fi in the lobby. We visited the Bull and Bear bar in the hotel a couple of times and received good service; it’s a bit pricier than other bars in town, but to be expected and worth it as part of the Waldorf Astoria. Although reception was often very busy our check-out was easy as we used the express service by phone and opted to leave the key in the room. The hotel is very historic and I was fascinated with the clock in the middle of reception and the hustle and bustle of people coming and going.

My Wife and I would definitely stay here again when we next visit New York.

We are a family of four and booked with the Waldorf months in advance. We arrived very late (the hotel knew) and were given room 11 floors apart, one of which was on a smoking floor. The tire floor smelled like an ashtray. We were told nothing could be done that time of night and it would be fixed in the morning. By 4 o'clock the next day, nothing was done. After an hour at reception and being told there were no rooms available, a manager finally got involved and "found" rooms on the same floor. We also had unreasonably long waits (over one and a half hours) for room service and house keeping. Its a beautiful hotel in a great location, but very understaffed and the staff is not properly trained. Definitely NOT what you would expect from they sort of hotel.

Lovely one bedroom suite though the view was certainly lacking. Our biggest disappointment was requesting a nice view but ending up looking directly out at the window of some office buildings and another hotel. Our 25th anniversary trip and we were making it quite special from start to finish, so while we loved the suite itself we were not happy with the location they had us in. Other than that, this is a beautiful and gentrified property. They went out of their way (other than the view) to make our stay very enjoyable. Would certainly stay here again. Great location on Park Avenue!

Room Tip: Corner suites are sizable and quite comfortable. Get something higher than the 14th or 15th floor if...

This hotel has yet to disappoint. Staff, room, room service - all what one would expect from the pinnacle of NY hotels. Upgrade to the suites-like being with the big wigs from decades before. All the class one comes to expect from the name and location. Nothing like it anywhere. Even the chill of winter did nothing to deter the ambiance.

We were really excited to be staying at the Waldorf in New York but when we arrived after been on the go for over 24 hours out room wasn't ready, it took them over an hour before we we're allows in! Two days into our five day stay the snow began and the rain poured into our room and eventually part of the ceiling fell in. It took the hotel 1 hour and 15 minutes to get is moved after ringing the front desk every 10 minutes. We hadn't been on our new suit two minutes when my husband went plug his phone in to charge when he got am electric shock from the neighbouring plug! There were bulbs out on some lights the safe didn't work and a wall light next to the bed nearly fell off the wall! So all in all we had a very shoddy hotel but on the plus side the concierge were absolutely fantastic they were so helpful and pleasant pity the hotel wasn't up to the same standard! We also had a lovely time in New York despite the problems would definitely recommend going just don't stay at the Waldorf!!
