My husband and I upgraded our hotel to the Waldorf 48 hours before we arrived in NYC. It was SO worth it! The staff greeted us with a smile and let us check in at 11:00am which was fantastic! We loved our stay at the Waldorf and hopefully will be back again!

Room Tip: we stayed on the 15th floor. Could still hear noise, but it's NYC..no big deal ;) Just bring a s...

This hotel is resting on its laurels. Pros- excellent location, polite staff. Cons - room is old and needed renovation, phone did not work, peephole did not work, service was slow.

My wife and I stayed there one night. Even though she was thrilled with the location we would not stay there again. We have stayed in five star hotels all over the world - Phoenician in Scottsdale, Greebrier, WV, Rome Cavalieri Hilton among them. All were elegant, first rate - and modern.

I will presume the Waldorf Towers are an improvement but I am unwilling to chance staying there given this experience.

We stayed in the Waldorf Towers and what an experience, we were ushered into a private check in and taken by private lift to our suite. OMG what an absolutley fantastic place, we had a lounge which was the size of a house, a massive bedroom with crisp egyptian sheets and a Bose sound system. Then came the dressing room which was fully mirrored , then the bathroom itself with a massive bath and seperate shower cubicle, which even had a heated lamp above so you did,nt feel cold.
We had breakfast and afternoo tea, which came complimentary,in a small dining area and it was an eye opener watching the rich of this world.
I must say this was a trip i will remember all my life

We decided to go to the Waldorf Astoria as it was the same price as the Hilton Times Square - they are both part of the Hilton Group. We thought it might be better. Unfortunately, it wasn't in many ways.

First up - the room: We entered a Standard room and found it to be very small, especially by American standards. The floor had a hole in it under the carpet, and the wife almost broke her ankle. The bed was tiny. The wallpaper was peeling, and the walls were so paper-thin we could hear the conversation next door - not just the man using the telephone, but we could hear the voice on the receiver! The internet also refused to work.

As a HH gold member, I wasn't very happy with what we had been provided, and the duty manager actually dealt with the situation very well indeed and made amends. We were given an alternative room that was bigger and with a with a bigger bed. It was a "recently refurbished" room and was perfectly adequate, but not great.

You should note that this is an old building, so bear in mind:

- The walls are all not up to modern sound insulation standards.
- The AC is switched off int he winter. If you need cold air you must use the windows, which apart from being almost impossible to open/close, let in an awful amount of noise.
- The fittings (doors, woodwork, cornices, etc) are all original - don't expect "new".

On the plus side, the common areas are wonderful. The bar is great, and is staffed by "proper" bartenders who know what they are doing. However, I can enjoy these common areas and bar without staying at the hotel. I was paying for the room, and it's top-dollar but not necessarily top-quality.

It's sad to say I will be staying elsewhere next time, possibly a Sheraton or Hilton Times Square.

My wife and I had a difficult winter and really needed a weekend of R&R. Having enjoyed the Waldorf several times before as gusts ,and frequent visits to Peacock Alley around the holidays, we felt this was the perfect place to lay low and recharge our batteries.

A dreary, rainy Friday afternoon check-in was immediately brightened, and our moods perfectly lifted by our front desk clerk, Mr. Michael Esposito. Michael's charm and attention-to-detail reminded us why we chose to spend our weekend at the Waldorf in the first place. He breezed use through the drudgery of checking in and set us up like kings.

I believe customer service is number one, and nobody does it better than the Waldorf! And nobody at the Waldorf does it better than Michael at the front desk. It won't be long till he moves up the ladder on Park Avenue, we look forward to having him greet us on our next weekend, maybe this time as a manager.

Well done Michael & the entire staff at the W=A. I guess that stands for Weekend=Ambrosia!

Thank you all,

Maureen & Michael Pakalik

We arrived about 7am after a red eye flight and we really appreciated the early check-in which allowed us to get a couple hours of sleep before lunch. Staff was always very courteous, room was beautiful and very clean and quiet.

After 23 years of trips to New York for business with a regular stay at this hotel I am crossing them off the list. My firm has hosted large events as well and we will not return. Thought it would be fun to stay here over spring break with my son. The room was tired and there was no hot water. After a suggestion that I wait for a couple of minutes from the front desk I had to give up after 20 minutes as that hot water never arrived. We had a show to attend and had to go. After the hotel manager sent someone to " fix it" it lasted a mere one shower so we had cold showers for the balance of the trip. When I called again the phone was broken! Service in Peacock Alley could not have been more hostile. We appeared to be annoying them by ordering a drink that was not on the menu and after the drink was delivered they cherged me $25 for the drink. Never a smile or courteous word in the two visits Peacock Alley. One more try at the hot water with no success. No viable food options for kids, don't dine in the hotel unless you want to spend $30-49 even on the kids menu, offered at Bull & Bear kids menu sliders for $25. Service there was better but still not what you would expect for a hotel of this caliber, or formerly high caliber. This hotel deserves 3 stars or less. The exterior of the building says it all. Polished up on Park Avenue ( Front) and dirty on Lexington ( Back side) . The quality of this experience unfortunately wipes out years of previous good stays. Location is only redeeming element. In NYC you better have game to back up hype. No game at the Waldorf any more. Never again.
