“Not a Value for the Money you Pay”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

The Waldorf is a good hotel with a wonderful NYC location. It is not worth the money you pay to stay there. There are very few customer amenities offered. Your basic needs are met. Any additional comforts and conveniences come with a very high price.

Hotel has a nice lobby and it's historical. That's about it.

No staff welcomed us, no one took our luggage up to the room. No turn down service. Things you except from a hotel like the Waldorf. Not enough staff people are every where so it's crowed.

The room is out dated in the sense that yes it's suppose to be consistent with the period of the hotel but done in poor taste. Also the room was soooo dirty!! Lighting is poor so if you need more lighting bring a mirror with a light on it for make up etc. The concierge took my to a cafeteria for lunch! I'm in NYC not a high school send me to a restaurant.

So been there done that kind of attitude go there to look don't stay there.

Got a great rate at the Waldorf for 1 night stay in NYC. Room was comfortable, view of Park Avenue was lovely. Traffic noise could be heard but what do you expect staying in NYC. A note about the minibar I want to mention, this unit is smart enough to detect when you move something inside to maybe place your own beverage to be chilled. Dont be surprised if you see a charge on your statement for the item you "moved". A quick visit to the front desk and the charge was removed as we did not consume anything, we just used the space. Also, many reviewers are upset about the lack of an in room coffeemaker. You can make a request to have one in your room, that said, I dont know how many they have to offer but its worth a shot. Overall, very satisfied with stay for the bargain price of $285/night for this trip.

The Waldorf Astoria is an amazing iconic building, with truly opulent public areas and a very attentive staff. The bedrooms do suffer from faded elegance; however, we slept soundly and comfortably. The bathrooms were very dated, but functional with excellent toiletries.

We dined in Peacock Alley (the restaurant attached to the lobby area) the food and service were top notch, albeit pricey. Had an excellent manhattan in the adjacent bar and truly enjoyed the spacious public areas - perfect for relaxing with a cocktail. These public areas are very opulent with wood and marble everywhere. The mosaic floor by the Park Avenue entrance is astounding. Although there was a very large convention being held in the hotel, only the public areas had any real noise.

The hotel bedrooms are indeed dated and probably not quite up to current 5 star hotel standards, they are very spacious. We had 4 perfect nights sleep and really enjoyed the Upper East Side location of the hotel at half the price of other similar hotels in the area (so the dated bathrooms and old style design on the carpet were really not a big deal).

The Metropolitan Museum, The Guggenheim Museum and the Frick are all within easy walking distance. Likewise Central Park is a nearby welcome refuge from the hussle of the city. The hotel is also very well placed for the Lexington Avenue subway (nearest stop at East 51st street). A cab ride downtown to City Hall cost us $16.00 which again was good value for money.

We enjoyed our stay, if you want ultra modern stay somewhere else - if you like 30's elegance and style (along with outstanding service and value for money) stay here.

Room Tip: The hotel was virtually full with a huge conference taking place, yet we never heard any noise while...

Stayed at the Waldorf as a Diamond status member and received an 'upgrade' to a room with the most mold I've ever seen (I am also posting pictures). Seriously, I've stayed in Hilton Garden Inns and Marriott Courtyards nicer!

The reception and concierge staff was great though. Verrrrrry nice.

Unfortunately this hotel did not live up to its hype and my excited expectations. Spending a lot of time in NYC I always wondered why my travel team didn't recommend the Waldorf. The hotel is unfortunately very dated, has an old an unloved feeling and needs serious upgrade and modernisation. In my dated and horribly decorated room I was treated to broken/lose taps, no hot water through the shower and the plugs not working. These in my view are simple pleasures for a hotel guest of such a supposedly esteemed establishment. The welcome when you enter is average at best and the breakfast is over priced and under-valued. If you travel for business or pleasure don't spend the money to stay here. You will be disappointed from start to finish. Try Soho Grand or Royalton for something funky or The Benjamin for a decent business hotel. PS: They do have a decent hit rate at getting you a taxi!

Room Tip: Get a room away from the lifts and higher up to get away from the traffic noise.

Beautiful lobby, wonderful bar, and very nicely appointed rooms. It was everything you would expect from the Woldorf Astoria in Manhattan. The service was impeccable and the location is great. I don't often sleep well in hotels but the accomodations were very comfortable.
