Description: Located on the Plaza Level of Chelsea's storied Maritime Hotel, La Sirena is Joe Bastianich's first new restaurant in New York in nearly a decade. The space is characterized by custom '60s-inspired curvilinear pavers throughout and walls clad in quartz by Caesarstone. A 38-foot marble bar bisects the grand patio and connects the more intimate north and south dining rooms. In the restaurant's more formal Main Dining Room, we offer a Michelin-starred menu representative of the entire Italian Peninsula. In the traditional Italian style, meals begin with antipasti, followed by pastas including Lasagne al Pesto with layers of fresh pasta, golden potatoes and bechamel, then secondi. A menu of seasonal desserts by Pastry Chef Thea Habjanic end every meal on a sweet note.

This restaurant is located in front of the Maritime hotel. We chose an inside seat and although the room could use a little more something, it was not busy and we still felt it was intimate. We chose a super tuscan from the extensive wine list, but were blown away by our choice of what we thought was a reasonably priced bottle for the choice. We selected the fixed-priced menu although we both chose mains with an extra cost. The bread was served piping hot with delicious salt butter. For appetizers, I chose a burrata caprese while my husband chose an eggplant dish. Both were good. The mains were delicious, I chose the duck breast, cooked to perfection while my husband went with the 12oz NY steak also seasoned and cooked perfectly. We also tried a (large) side of cauliflower carbonara. It was actually good.....this coming from someone who hates cauliflower. Top our experience off with a small desert: one with dark chocolate, the other with mango and we left very satisfied with our choices. The service was perfect, just the right amount of attention by the team to keep the plates cleared, our water glasses full and replenish our wine.

Went tonight to enjoy the Restaurant Week menu.
So glad we did.
This was our first time & everything was positive about the evening.
The decor is really great - light, airy, modern.
The food was equally as great - the Restaurant Week menu was one of the larger ones, giving several options for each course & making it tough to choose in a good way. Cocktails were yummy too.
Wonderful ambiance, and the service staff was a good balance of attentive while not too overwhelming.
Definitely on the list to go back, restaurant week or not.

I love the ambience of this place. However, we ordered one of the pasta dishes and there was WAY too much pepper. But I'd still go back.

We went there at 5:07 for dinner after the Whitney and before a 7:30 play nearby, only to find out that, although this is nowhere noted on their signs outside, they do not open for dinner until 5:30. However, they seated us and allowed us to order a bar snack and drinks until dinner. Dinner was OK, nothing to write home about but certainly adequate. Service was fair. The place is actually the front of a large hotel (not obvious from the 9th Ave. entrance). By Manhattan standards, it would be considered to have average or slightly high prices.

I'd requested a quiet table, and the host had no note of it. Never a good start. The host desk feels like the desk at an airport gate. A power play where you're made to feel lucky for a non-lame table. I hate it.
Then to a table where the task division means your table looks like a Formula One car in the pits. A water person, a wine person, a so-called waiter that just takes the order, a non-English speaker that brings the food and has to wild guess who's order what. The wine is quarantined on the other side of the room, so you can't serve yourself when the wine person takes their eye off the ball. The waiter vanishes for so long that a search party needs arranging by the water person.
Perfectly OK foods lands eventually. But nothing stood out as 'how on earth did they do that?' which the price tag implies... All very so-so... but if you want to charge huge, and underdeliver so badly, the only option is one out of five. Total disappointment.
