I would even be more satisfied if I was assigned a quiet room. It was interesting to see that the hotel is very child-friendly and that important musea and the Mertropolitan Opera are in walking distance from the hotel. A surplus is the vicinity of the metro.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the streets

First time visitors at Lucerne, and just can't say enough good things about the hotel. Very reasonable rates (under $ 200.00 in the Upper West Side!) and a free room upgrade at check-in, rooms very nice size and very well appointed, beautiful, large and clean, roomy bathrooms, just perfect. Very friendly, very helpfull staff. NIce Matin, their restaurant, is very good as well... Go and enjoy. I Couldn't make a higher recommendation for the area and the price.

There are few hotels on the wonderful Upper West Side, one of our favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan. It is mostly residential, not a tourist area, next to Central Park and filled with families and interesting shops and markets. The Lucerne, centrally located at 79th and Amsterdam is a very comfortable, boutique hotel. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The rooms are older but clean and sufficient. Next door is Nice Matin, a full service restaurant that serves good food with a very good wine list. Subway and bus service is close by. Stay at the Lucerne if you like an upscale New York neighborhood experience, walking in Central Park, and a smaller hotel that provides fair value in an expensive city.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are away from the streets.

We were in the city to see several shows and concerts and found The Lucerne to be perfectly situated to travel to Lincoln Center and Broadway! The Subway stop is just at the end of the block, making for an easy commute back and forth to those attractions. The hotel is most accommodating with a friendly staff, great restaurant and good size rooms for Manhattan.
We have stayed here before and have not been disappointed.

I really like this hotel: location, helpful staff, adjoining restaurant is good, and lots more positives.
My only negative is the rooms are small. If I were staying with someone else over a few days, I might feel cramped. BUT I've been to other hotels in the area that were also converted from old apartment buildings in the neighborhood and the Lucerne is FAR BETTER in terms of amenities and services. It has become my hotel-of-choice when I come to Manhattan (other than when I stay with good friends of family).....

When we come to New York, which is quite often including right now, we almost always choose the Lucerne Hotel as the best combination of value, location, and accommodation. Located on the corner of 79th and Broadway on the Upper West Side, it is less than a block away from Broadway and the subway station, three blocks from the Hayden Planetarium and the Museum of Natural History, and four blocks from Central Park. The rooms are huge, all suites, with a small but very functional kitchenette including refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker including cups to go with it. The service is wonderful and the atmosphere warm and friendly. We always head over to the nearby Westside Market on Bway and 77th when we arrive and stock our fridge with juice, Greek yogurt, and dark chocolate so we save even more each day. The Lucerne is well worth being a few blocks north of the noise and traffic near Times Square and getting some exercise walking to Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, or the theater. Also, Sara Beth's is a great option for brunch or breakfast one block away on Amsterdam and 82nd or NiceMatin right downstairs with a discount coupon provided by the hotel. You really can't do better than the Lucerne in New York as far as we are concerned, and I would choose it over many fancier hotels just for the size of the suite with a king size bed in one room and a pull out queen in the sitting room with two flat screen TV's. We're already making out next reservation for April!

we stayed in a corner room which had two windows and was very spacious. The beds were very comfortable, the service was good, and the decor was regal but not garish. Very nice location. We walked through central park daily.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room with two windows
