Just returned from a business trip to NYC. Agree with other reviews re. convenience, very friendly ( esp. Front Desk and Concierge) staff and location for walkable access ( Central Park, Museum of Natural History and subway services. Great and reasonable local food choices, too ( see my other reviews).

Room Tip: Rooms on 79th have less ambient noise.

We were in NYC from 4/10-15, and, coming from sunny San Diego, we brought the weather with us! We lucked out, because the temps during the day were around 70-75! This was our third stay at the Lucerne after not having been there for 10 years, and it was just as special as before. The doormen were the most accommodating and friendly we'd met. The front desk was helpful as well. Our room (double/double) was nicely refurbished, but a little cramped but that's because there were 3 of us, however, we weren't in the room very much at all. The only reason I'm giving a 4 rating (would rather it be a 4.5) is because the mattress was a little soft, so for the first 4 days, my back was a little sore. By the 5th, I guess my back got used to it. We enjoyed breakfast almost every morning at Nice Matin, the restaurant adjacent to the Lucerne. The absolutely best thing about the Lucerne is its location. We were there during Spring break, so you can imagine how crowded the city was. Going back to the Upper West Side at the end of an afternoon or evening of running around was like coming home. It's a true neighborhood, so it's not touristy (but just a block away from the Natural History Museum and Central Park) or crowded. There are plenty of good restaurants and lots of shopping within walking distance.

I would stay at a boutique hotel like the Lucerne in the UWS over a large hotel in crowded, noisy Midtown any day, and I don't think the rates would be that much different. As others have mentioned, the subway is just around the corner, and cabs are easy to catch as well. It's clean, quiet, and friendly. You can't ask for more!

Room Tip: While we didn't have one, the corner rooms are supposed to be bigger, although the rates are a l...

Loved it. Had a one bedroom suite. Hotel staff were very nice, letting us check in a bit early to recover from a west coast red eye to NYC. We are looking forward to going back. Attached restaurant (Nice) is also very good and convenient for both breakfast and dinner.

We loved this hotel. It look a little dated, but the rooms were comfortable and clean (we stayed in a one-br suite), the staff is friendly and the service was great.

The location is perfect for families, as it is within walking distance of the Museum of Natural History, playgrounds in Central park and a subway station. There are also several restaurant close to the hotel, so there is no need to dine at the rather pricey restaurant at the hotel.

The wifi was also super fast!

Room Tip: We stayed at the 6th floor and had little noise from the streets.

This was a lovely hotel with some glamor in the decor. Our room was higher up and we never heard other guests in the evening. Found the beds firm and comfortable, although the pillows were too soft. The price was good for the quality of the hotel, the front staff was helpful as were the doormen. As two women traveling, we felt very safe in the hotel and area. We often walked at night - suggestion: when you walk towards Columbus, use 79th as there are doormen every twenty feet. In the 80th and over streets it can feel a little isolated at night. Some good restaurants nearby. Had breakfast at Nice Matin - orange buttermilk french toast was delicious, the berries very fresh and tasty, but the omelette was just OK - not bad, just not great. Across the street is Amsterdam Deli where we grabbed quick breakfast of fruit and yogurt - they have some baked goods. Subway down the street, bus down Columbus Ave nearby which was a nice way to go to midtown. Overall, really good experience in a clean and quiet hotel, great location and good service.

Room Tip: Higher floor, not on second floor where ice machine is.

Our second visit - definitely better to go for the upper floors [ 8-11 ] - for the views and if possible a corner room. The lifts are a little slow - and Ice is on 2nd floor .... but apart from that clean, well furnished and quiet. Electric supply is all 'under the tables or behind chests' ..... Wifi signal strong.
Super convenient - to NH Museum, Central Park, Subway Line 1 ( 79th Street) - and several nice places to eat - Nice Matin cafe next door, over the street : Fish Tag and Coppolla's West on 79th and Cesca on 75th.

Room Tip: Go for higher floors ( 8-11) and try for corner room.

We booked the Lucerne wanting a hotel walkable from the Metropolitan Opera House. This fitted the bill perfectly. Our room was on the 7th floor, relatively away from the ever-present NY street noise. One night we did get some noise from a boisterous family next door through the room, but the hotel were very helpful about it and confirmed they were moving out, otherwise would have looked to help.

The basic rooms are a reasonable size, but with two double beds in they feel like a furniture assault course a bit. Our window didn't look out onto anything special, but from the 11th floor our friend had a corner room with a lovely double aspect view out across a couple of low-lying neighbouring blocks.

Breakfast in the next-door Nice Matin restaurant was nice, quite a few options, and generally good service. It would have been nice to have a bar in the hotel to relax in when we got back from the opera, but there is no such facility. The lobby area has comfy sofas but is really only for waiting for people when heading out or waiting for an airport cab. Two subway lines head north/south from nearby so it's easy to get downtown for shopping or sights, with some (such as the Metropolitan Museum) walkable across Central Park. Definitely recommendable, though there may be other hotels out there with a bit more personality.

Room Tip: Ask for high up and on a corner - I think the corner ones are the 'superior' or whatever the...
