Several friends and I have stayed at the Wellington for a few years now. We always book suites (the regular rooms are reportedly very small). The Wellington used to be an apartment building, so the suites are large, with plenty of room for 3-4 women, their luggage and purchases after a week of shopping in NYC. There is a sink and small fridge, some dishes, and a small dining area. They have wireless internet - but it's not free. Beds are comfy - rooms are clean, but not plush. This is a great place to base yourself - subway stop outside the door on several of the main lines, mid-town location near Carnegie Hall, coffee shop in lobby provides room service for breakfast and lunch at reasonable (for New York) prices - hotel bar is really in the Molyvos restaurant which can be entered from the lobby. Molyvos is known as one of the best restaurants in town, Greek cuisine - great drinks, and awesome house tea. Elevators can be slow, but there are 4. Tour groups do stay here, and there is street noise - light sleepers might want ear plugs. But for the price (400-500 a night for suite, cheap when split between 3-4 people) and location, it's my fave.

We stayed at the Wellington for 3 nights. As its very expensive in New York and we wanted to stay in the middle of things we searched and searched for the cheapest place and came up with this place. It certainly is in a great location, opposite Carnegie Hall and just a few minutes walk from Times Square. We asked for a room on a high floor with a great view and that is what we got, on the 22nd floor with a view of Times Square, which was amazing at night!. The room itself was quite small, with quite a small bed, but that was fine for us as we are small people! It was warm and cosy whish was perfect for the freezing winter nights. The bathroom was basic but had a good shower and was very clean. The hotel is still a 70's style hotel and doesnt really have any modern amenities but when you are in NY you only need a room to sleep in so it was fine for this. There is a cafe which does breakfast lunch and dinner and also a Greek restaurant which has good reviews but we did not go there as with alot of NY it was quite expensive. All in all a great stay and would definately return.

We stayed in the Wellington for 5 nights and had a thoroughly good time. The staff were friendly and helpful whenever we asked for advice. We found our room very comfortable, kept spotlessly clean and was nice and warm, which was nice considering the freezing weather during our stay. The location of the hotel is perfect with Times Square, 5th Avenue, Cental park only minutes walk away.
We had breakfast a few times at Fluffies Bakery which was nice and good value, we also had breakfast twice in the Carnegie Deli, massive portions, hard work trying to eat it all.
Great stay, would definitely stay at the Wellington again

We booked a suite for 3 adults and a double room. The double bed in the suite was a 4 ft wide bed and the single was a sofa(not what we really booked or expected,) I COMPLAINED to the receptionist named Kathleen who argured that the bed was a queen sized and more or less dismissed me like i was dirt on her shoe, at least thats how i felt, tea & coffee making facilities yes,but no cups, dont make me laugh.if anything she made up my mind never to go back and to send this review, Stay away and tell your friends to stay away

Hotel very nice on arrival, very warm welcome, rooms very comfortable and clean, clean bed linen and towels everyday, decorating needs modernising but didn't bother us as wearn't in the hotel for long as sight seeing in NY all day.
Adjacent to the hotel as the Park cafe - great value and huge meals, had a breakfast and dinner there most nights, very clean, fast service, great value for money.
Subway just outside the hotel, will take you right down to the bottom of manhatten about 25-30 min trip, Very safe, everywhere seemed very safe even at night.
Tourist information centre very close to hotel and very helpful, buy a citypass, worth the money. Will definately stay there again

Stayed here from 12-16th feb with my boyfriend. Initial thoughts were better than what I expected BUT the staff aren't the most friendly/enthusiastic especially for the u.s.a (not that their rude)! The reception is always busy mostly around 3pm (check in) and 12pm (check out). Not sure why that's an issue for some though. The room was smaller than what I expected but for the two of us it was fine. It is dated and yes the bathroom could do with a re-vamp but all we did was sleep and shower. The room was so warm as well, never had the heating on! Everyday we had the bed made/ towels changed/ bin emptied. No matter where you stay in NYC you HAVE to walk miles to one attraction or another. The Wellington is right on the edge of Time Sq (great because not too busy outside). 5th Ave shops are about 5min walk away!
It was the cheapest accommodation on lastminute.com so i was expecting the worst but was happily proven wrong. If you just want somewhere to lay your head after hardcore shopping this is it! I will stay here again, its cheap and one of the best locations!

We booked this hotel for a trip in early November 2008. The location was great, and we had a corner room, which meant that if we leaned out of our window a little bit, we could see a corner of Times Square. There is a subway stop just outside the door, and a coffee shop that could use some updating in the lobby, with decent breakfast. The room decor was fine for a older hotel, but the bathroom was tiny (but functional). The front desk staff was not super-helpful, and they insisted on showing us our room (for a tip of course, even though we had rolling bags that did not require any assitance at all!) They did have a business center in the lobby that you can feed dollar bills into for internet time, or you can pay $9/day to use their wireless. The lobby center is probably a better deal if you just need to look something up, it was $1 for 2-3 minutes of internet time. The Greek restaurant next door is excellent!

Our only problem with the room was the heater. We could not adjust the temperature, and the heater fan was so loud, we could not sleep! It would run quietly for 10-15 minutes, and just when we started to drift gently off to dream land, it would start to bang and clang and thump like an angry monkey was inside whacking the heater guts repeatedly with a hammer. It was absolutely the most awful sound I have ever heard coming from a machine designed for comfort, especially when you're trying to sleep! And there was no control over the temperature, it was either hot enough to roast a turkey, or we had to turn it off. After our 2nd night of no sleep, we finally opted to turn the heater off, and wore extra clothes to bed. So if you get a corner room on a high floor, test the heater before you accept the room!

Overall a servicable hotel, and a good deal on a discount service, but I'd be ticked off if I paid their going rate for the monkey-heater room!
