Having just returned from an exhausting but exhilarating trip with my fabulous friends, I cannot stress enough how helpful the hotel concierge Jeff was. He was so knowledgeable in advising places to visit, restaurants to eat, he arranged executive travel for us to a concert and even weighed our suitcases before we left! The hotel is lovely the only two gripes we had there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, and the plug was behind a heavy floor mirror, apart from that they were very clean and had everything you needed in them. The hotel staff were very helpful they very kindly checked us our return flight home and printed our tickets off for us. Nothing was too much trouble, overall we had a fabulous stay in NY and definitely would return especially to the same hotel.

Room Tip: Our room was very quiet on the 8th floor.

When we arrived, we were greeted by the GM in the lobby. The check-in was fast and easy and the doormen were very accomodating with our luggage and our car. The location is perfect, right in Time Square and very close to everything that we wanted to see. The rooms were clean and spacious (which is not always the case in NYC) and I really like the sleek look of the bathroom. I had a great nights sleep and didn't hear any noise from the outside. I am recommending this hotel to my friends, acquaintances and anyone who asks!! Visit the Ameritania on your next visit to New York City, you won't regret it.

Room Tip: I really like the corner rooms as they provide a great view and are set up nicely.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The rooms were to an excellent standard, slightly smaller to hotels i've stayed at before in New York but very clean and maintained. The only down side was the noise from the air conditioning but you soon got used to it and it wasn't a problem. The hotel staff were welcoming, polite and extremely helpful. The concierge staff were excellent especially Jeff he ordered us a surprise stretch limo for our return trip to the airport. What a way to finish a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: end rooms are larger

We have just returned from a three night visit to New York and on the whole we found it a great place to stay. It is a fantastic location for Times Square and Broadway, with Central Park and shopping area/Rockefeller Centre within walking distance. The Reception Staff and doormen were always friendly, helpful and polite. We were on the 7th floor overlooking 54th Street and although the room was quite noisy at night, it was outweighed by having a view of the NY rooftops from our window. We had a few little niggles with the room, but it was a good size, clean and nothing that we couldn't overcome. The lighting was a little too dim in the bedroom and one of our lamps didn't work, but the bright light in the modern bathroom helped light up the bedroom. I would recommend this Hotel and if I ever returned to NY, would be happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: Take some earplugs just in case!!!

My mom and I traveled together for 5 days (mother/daughter trip) and stayed at Ameritania the entire time.

Pros:
- FANTASTIC LOCATION - You're very close to Time Square, Central Park and the Subway
- Excellent service. Impeccable. The gentlemen at the door are fast, efficient and friendly.
- Good value
- INCREDIBLY comfortable beds. One of the best beds I've slept in (including when I compare to the Four Seasons).
- The rooms are a decent size. Definitely small - but good for NYC. And you're hardly in your room anyway! If you want a larger room, you can go somewhere else and pay a $75/night premium - not worth it.

Cons:
- The sound proofing isn't great - but it's an old building and it's NY. So I think that's not totally unexpected. If you're not used to city noises - you can request a room on a higher floor. I'm used to city noises but my mom isn't so we left the AC/Heat fan on all night and it drowned out any city noises.
- No continental breakfast - but if you're in NYC it's much better to go out and walk and check out the great local coffee shops/bakeries in the morning anyway!

I would definitely stay here again - and plan to next time I'm in NYC!

Room Tip: Request a higher floor if you're worried about noise. Previous complaints about construction do...

You could nit-pick this hotel for its room size (no problem) and lack of on-site dining (wide variety of great eateries mere steps away), but the bottom line is that the staff, condition, location and price more than make up for any perceived shortcomings. From the moment we stepped in the front door, and doorman Jeff resolved what could have been a real vacation-downer by retrieving a laptop from a departed NYC taxi, we could not have been more pleased with our accommodations. It was an act of pure professionalism and travel-industry expertise. Jeff maintained contact with us the entire trip to ensure our needs were met, and other staff were just as helpful. Many reviewers have raved about the one-off location (actually, a little closer than that), and I would add that the proximity to Radio City, Central Park, lively neighborhood diners and restaurants, and even walking-distance-away Times Square make the Ameritania my new favorite hotel location in New York City. Rest assured it will always be my first choice when visiting the city. My congratulations to the management for figuring out what its customers need and then making sure those needs are met. I am editor of daily newspaper who practices objectivity for a living; I also chair a local travel advisory board. Please be assured these high marks were earned. Choose this hotel with assurance that you will not regret it,

Room Tip: Carefully consider room-size and bedding options according to your needs.
