A central location is everything in NYC, and this is 4 blocks from Times Square etc but on a quieter side street. We were lucky to get a honeymoon upgrade to a suite overlooking the skyscrapers, and with complimentary wine too! This is not only the reason we liked the place. Its clean, airy with a large lobby/lounge area, and with a bar that has a fireplace. Really good cosmos and decent beer selection. At mid-december we found the place a bargain at 127USD per night. Didn't try the hotel breakfast (13USD dec 2013), but there's 4-5 breakfast places, including a Starbucks, with 2 blocks. Right next door is The Late Night show, Ticket signups start at 9.30 am, so that could be your start of the day to get a shot at a free show.

My partner and I checked into this gorgeous hotel before christmas. The staffs were friendly and helpful when it comes to asking for directions. When we got to our room, it was exactly what we hoped for; clean sheets, big bed, well decorated room and a view at Manhattan. The bathroom was up to date in terms of funishing and the fridge was stuffed.
The tricky part was the fridge; it was stocked with liquor and wines, while the desk was filled with snacks, personal stuffs and just what you can't resist at first entry. No one warned us that those items aren't free! The menu of what was in the fridge weren't visible at first....I would say it was hidden so people would think it was free. The drinks were overpriced; a bottle of Fiji water was listed as $7, while it was sold for $1.89 at local stores, not to mention a whole lot of overpriced items. Luckily we realised this after we drank a bottle of water, so we went to Broadway and purchased stuffs from convinient stores.
The room cleaning wasn't always prompt. Sometimes we had to request for it, and sometimes the lady would knock while we were still in bed, as early as 9 am.
We always returned from dinner with leftovers, but the problem was finding a place to warm it up. When they finally pointed us to the hotel dining area, it was filty! The microwave was disgusting.
The most interesting thing about this place is that it's a 5 mins walk to Timesquare, you can actually see it right from the street corner. There are lots of subway entrances. We learned to use the subway since cab was a joke in terms of fees. If you plan to take a cab from the airport to the hotel, expect to pay about $60 on cab. I would advise you take the Train again and get off right in front of the hotel, for $2.50.
Once you learn to use the subway, you will sail through and have much fun. They all get off at the city attractions. I used my phone's google map for the train direction, and we purchased the $30 metrocard which is unlimited for 7 days. That way, we toured the city like we wanted and got back to our hotel room without spending all our money.
Just bring your money with you if you plan to eat at Broadway! I can't get over the fact that we ate dinner with a bottle of wine, no dessert, no appetizer for $150. Yeah... I will review the restaurant soon. If you like Chinese food, take the Train to Chinatown or a $20 cab fare (tell the driver to use the highway) and bring back lots of food for just $10.
At the end of the day, we had so much fun and had no problems while in NY.

What a gem of a hotel. Recently refurbished and to a very high standard. We were very happy with our room. A very comfy bed and a huge bathroom. I asked if I could purchase a bottle of champagne to be put in the room on arrival as it was my partners birthday and they did it free of charge. Chris the doorman is very helpful, as are all the others. A lovely lobby and extremely pleasant staff. The only slight downside was the noise from the bar next door one night, but they were done by about 1am and it is the city that never sleeps! I would definitely book here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the avenue not west 54th street.

The location of the hotel was brilliant, we were able to walk all around Manhattan easily and is only a few blocks from Times Square. As for the hotel the room was ok, small but for NYC what do you expect? The staff were friendly and quick to assist when needed however for the £200+ a night I was left expecting a bit more.

My husband and I had actually booked with another Hotel about two months prior to our trip. About a week before I began doing some research to see if we could get a better deal. I found the Ameritania for less than HALF the price of the other hotel and was on the same street! When we called to book our room the gentleman working asked if we were celebrating anything. I told him our Two year wedding anniversary. He said he would request an upgrade if it was available when we checked in. We ended up getting the upgrade with was a great surprise. On top of that the hotel provided us with a bottle of champagne!!
The room was great, modern, clean and the bed was super comfortable.
We were within walking distance to so much stuff - Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center - just to name a few.
Everyone was very helpful especially the bell hops. We will definitely stay here again.

disappointed from start to finish, Our room was so hot as the air con did not work, when it was fixed the noise it made was to loud to sleep with. We were offered a room move but only between 12 and 3 and we had plans so couldnt move. The toilet was dirty and not cleaned our whole visit the bathroom light switch only worked when you hit it about 5 times the plug socket was cracked and did not hold plugs. The towels were only changed when we asked for them to be and then we were given ones that were ragged. We even had to ask for tissue as our room was not serviced. We made our own bed!!! One evening as we tried to get a taxi to an event the door man got us a car when we told them we were happier in a taxi we were told that it cost the same as a yellow cab. We were charged $35 for a $10 ride when we returned and challenged the doorman he just laughed at us. Not a pleasant stay which is sad as it was our Christmas treat after a tough year

great location, however no bells or whistles here. Shower doesn't have a shower current or sliding door, so it has an open space you can feel cold draft enter as you shower, plus half the water drips out the shower because of the opening. Room very small and dark. Didn't get the warm & fuzzies about this place, just a place to stay. Beds were comfortable except pillows were too thick to sleep on, good to lean on but not to sleep. Our room was on 9th floor, you could hear honking and sirens all night.
