“Nice hotel, walking distance to Times Square, Broadway, Central Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

This hotel is in the middle of everything! Many great restaurants, Times Square, Broadway, NBC/Rockafellar Center, and Central Park are within a 5-15 minute walk. We walked to everything, except for taking a cab to the World Trade Center. Great service.

One drawback: our room had a permanent stale mildewy smell. We discovered it was probably the a/c. Whenever it was off, the smell would kinda come up again, and the top of the bed comforter also smelled of mildew as well. The mildew from the a/c must have settled on the comforter. We had the comforter changed the second night we were there, but it didn't go away. The rest of the bedsheets were clean and did not smell bad. We ended up just leaving the a/c running most of the time so the air wouldn't grow stale. Not sure if it's because it's an older hotel or if it was just our room.

Room Tip: Floors above 5th are supposedly quieter (subway train noise is absent). I stayed on the 6th, and I c...

We stayed at 5 night on July and we enjoyed our stay. It was our first time in NY and i was having my 30th birthday while our stay. Hotel was in good location, just a few steps from Times Square stairs, near Broadway shows and shops. Hotel was clean and rooms were spacious. Staff was very helpful. We will definitely return to this hotel next time we come to New York.

Room Tip: There is limited amount of rooms facing to the street.

My family and I decided to venture out to New York City for a weekend trip at the end of July to meet up with my mother's brother who was visiting the US from overseas. There were a lot of specials that weekend: my mother's first trip to New York in 20 years, my 11th wedding anniversary, my son's 8th birthday, and my uncle visiting us and the US for the first time. We wanted it to be special. We chose the Times Square location because that was near the hotel my uncle was staying in as well. We were all excited and left the DC area at around 3pm. With a nearly one year old in the car, the trip took us nearly 6 hours. We were tired when we arrived but excited because we were in NYC- the concrete jungle!

The hotel was relatively easy to locate as it was right off Eighth Avenue, one of the major arteries inside the city. The lobby was still buzzing with people, and the front desk staff was helpful with any questions we have, especially our inquiry regarding parking. The hotel does not have its own parking but right next door is a parking garage where we can park our car: $45 for regular sized car, $55 for SUV. Once you put your car in, it will be tough to get it out (as the parking garage uses a lift system). As you are in NYC and in Times Square, walking is the best mode of transportation. This brings us to what is great about this hotel: the location.

Location! Location! Location! It is just two blocks away from Times Square! My 8-year old was able to go on an evening stroll with his grandparents to Times Square as it was THAT close! Additionally, there are delis and stores across the street from the hotel that are open until 12AM or all night. We had to do a near mid-night run for food and other necessities, and we were able to. This leads to another important part of our hotel search: Amenities.

Each room of the hotel has a microwave and a mini-refrigerator - a must if you have a small child or a baby. Finding a hotel that has even one of these amenities was very tough! The Hilton Garden Inn scores major bonus points for having both! We were able to heat the milk for my baby and my son, my sister (In the corner room suite with sofa) was able to heat up milk for her baby as well. Now let's go to the rooms.

The room: The room sizes were smaller than typical hotel rooms but I read that they are better than most NYC hotels. And I understand, we are in NYC after all. The bed was comfortable, with standard king sizes (which apparently are smaller than what I had thought a king size would be, but I digress). The bathroom is where there is opportunity: the bottom of the bathroom door and some ceiling spots show signs of wear and age (door and ceiling had peeling). Noises are still heard through the walls of the rooms. I could hear my niece crying next door and you can hear the sirens as well as there is a fire station nearby, but you are in the city so noise comes with it.

The hotel did accommodate our request to be put in rooms that were next to each other, which was very helpful! And the staff was equally accommodating at our arrival and at our departure, but not so much in between (during our stay). I did see them interact quite well with other clients though. Perhaps we weren't regulars or a HiltonHonors members? Or busy time?

Overall it was nice stay, the location and amenities really made the trip. The opportunities are not much that would dissuade us from coming back. The price was just right (especially with triple A rates) and the location could not be beat!

Stayed twice in August for a total of 12 nights. Upgraded to a corner room 931 which is the best view of the Times Square action you can get. It really is 2 blocks away from Times Square so more about the buzz than the actual view.

Room was large with a sofa. Everything worked and was spotlessly cleaned. Bathroom has been updated but could do with a little nicer surround

Breakfast is in the pigalle restaurant and if you order rather than eating the buffet is excellent

Staff are super friendly and everyone is there to help. My favorite HGI in manhattan

If your traveling from JFK the E train drops you just across the road so you can get to manhattan for less than $8 in about as fast a time as it takes a cab! Great bonus

Room Tip: Corner rooms come with a sofa and a little more room. The rooms at the back are quieter as they are...

This has become our go to NYC hotel but our trips always include trips to the theater. This hotel has a wonderful staff, many of whom we recognize from year to year. It is easy to access by the subway and we always find our room ample especially for NYC standards.

The recent remodel has improved this hotel even more. The hallways and bathroom are refreshed which was really needed it for the $$ you often have to pay to stay there. But it usually has some of the most reasonable rates of the Hilton Family in the city.

While I would like to keep this our little secret for NYC getaways I am compelled to reward a hotel that continues to deliver in all areas. As part of the Hilton Garden family you still need to have your expectations adjusted accordingly. But if this is a good location for your stay do not hesitate to stay there.

Room Tip: This hotel is located on a busy and thriving street close so higher up is probably preferable but if...

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of July. The hotel is in a great location for most of the main sightseeing and is also opposite a subway station. The staff are friendly and accommodating but I wish the hotel wouldn't work quite so hard at trying to sell you extras. Every morning of our stay, there was someone posted on the door who tried every morning to sell us their loyalty packages. It was a bit much. The hotel is also a bit soul-less but I guess you would expect that of a chain hotel in a big city. Overall it did what we asked of it and we would definitely stay there again and recommend it for its convenient location.
