“Great location, but stay on an upper floor”
Reviewed 28 April 2009

We were put in a smoking room. Not sure if we had specified non-smoking when we called to reserve the room, but they definitely didn't ask, because we would have told them non-smoking.

They did change the room for us, but we ended up on the second floor, where you can hear the subway go by every minute or so. It's not terribly loud, just a low rumble, but you really noticed it.

There is a fire station one block down, so you sometimes get noise from that late at night as well.

Other than that it was a great stay -- clean, reasonably nice staff, and a fantastic location -- across the street from a good grocery store/deli, one block from the subway, very close to Times Square. A great home base for exploring the city.

But try to get a room on an upper floor.

I loved this hotel. I stayed here with my wife for 9 nights on our first trip to NY, and it was great.
The room was really big, with a big screen LCD TV, refrigator, microwave, and a desk. There was free wifi and wired internet access.
We stayed on the 5th floor, and we didn't have any problems with noise, of course there's the regular city noise.
Location is great, a couple of blocks aways from Times Square, and pretty close to Central Park too. Lots of public transportation options around.
I got a NY Super Sale rate, and it was a great value for the price.

My wife and I spent 6 days in the hotel. We selected the hotel based on the many positive reviews and we were not dissapointed. The hotel is perfectly located within walking distance of Broadway theatres, Lincoln Center, Central Park and many other attractions . The rooms are very nice with good beds, flat screen HDTV, coffee machine fridge and microwave oven. We had a room on the 14th floor with a view all the way to the Hudson river. There is free Internet access with PC's available in the lobby for those who did not bring a laptop. The staff was extremely nice. Each time we returned to the hotel we were greeted witl a warm 'welcome back' by the doormen. It is a long time ago we have stayed in a hotel that gave so much value for money.

Stayed here 2 nights with son doing college visits. Overall the hotel was great: location, room, service. We drove into the city and parking was right next door for $30/day. The only problem was the noise! We were using Hilton points so maybe we got the worst room location, but I have never stayed in a noisier room. We were on the 2nd floor front and sirens going up 8th avenue went all night. Also, you could actually hear the subway below 8th - I've never been in a hotel where that was the case. Finally, walls between rooms seemed like cardboard. When adjacent room turned on the shower or used any water it sounded light a freight train. And you could hear every word said in the hall, and there was a loud group of students staying down the hall. So I would only stay here again if I were guaranteed a higher floor, maybe on the back. You lose any view but then again, how much time to you spend in your room?

Stayed for three nights on business. Hotel is excellent, staff very friendly and price a litle bit higher than some but was worth it. Plenty of food places around and times square few blocks away. Would love to go back!!!!

Hi we stayed here end of november start of december 2008. This was our first time and we both thought it was in the perfect location. I am sure you could find something cheaper but as it was our first time we wanted something a bit special. The size of the room was perfect for a couple, nice huge comfy bed, bathroom nice and clean and unlike some hotels the cleaning staff didn't bother you even when you have the do not disturb sign on the door!! Noise level was at a minimum and i have to admit - probably being our first time - i actually got up and stared like an excited kid when i heard the fire engines! This was the only noise we heard. The weather was kind to us it was very mild, pleasant to do a lot of sightseeing. The location was perfect you were near to a lot of the sights. Good free starbucks coffee/tea on lobby although better get up pretty early to get some. Great Deli down street (toward central park) from hotel, fantastic pizza slices and garlic doughballs!! fab pastries!! Found our way about really easy no probs. We would definitely recommend staying here again!! Fave places, empire state, walking round central park watching ice skating, down 5th avenue, ferry to statue of liberty, shopping!!, just listening to new york people chatting, people watching!!

Usually when visiting New York I stay away from Time Square due to the high prices but this time bringing two teenage girls on their first trip to New York I didnt have a choice. The location was perfect, one block from time square, broadway shows and many other attractions. The rooms were typical New York fashion...( small) but the staff was so helpful and polite that you almost wanted to avoid them after four days. By the way dont make the mistake I did by letting the kids talk you into eating in time square, a big mistake services bad and the bill could have paid my light and gas bill and take the subway or use tours ( hop on and off) to visit places.
