“Tiny room but great location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

Traveled for a quick weekend visit with elementary school daughter. Great access to the theaters/Times Square/Central Park/American Girl Place and safe/bustling area. Room was generally quiet; noise came primarily from the AC. Clean and bugfree, though definitely on the shabby side and could use some additional redecorating. Wifi was ok, but definitely lost AT&T cellular signal. Staff was friendly. Room had a double bed so it was ok with one kid, but I can see it being tight/uncomfortable for others. Also, you can store the bags at the hotel ($2/bag) in case you had to check out in the morning but couldn't leave the city till later in the evening. Kid loved the place and thought it quaint. All in all, a good deal.

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced, comfortable, friendly, and a conveniently located in the theatre district and Times Square, then this is the hotel for you. Typical to older hotels in the NYC, our room and bathroom was on the smallish side but comfortable for two, but would be very tight if you needed to sleep 3 adults unless that person was a child using the foldout futon cushion. Hallway and room carpeting is worn and tired looking, but who cares when you return and crash on comfortable bed after being out all day. No problems with water pressure and temperature, which included a temperature gauge that you can adjust to your preferred water temperature.

The elevator is small, but it works especially if you are located on the top 7th floor. We had no problem with street noise as our room was located on the inside with a not very interesting view of the fire escape between buildings. Lots of wood paneling in the lobby area with nostalgic NY city scenes and pictures of NY personalities hung throughout the building.

The hotel doesn’t have it’s own restaurant, but is conveniently connected and opened to one right next door on one side with a small deli market on the other to catch a light breakfast or just walk a couple blocks to the many restaurants located around the hotel and Times Square area. You are within walking distance to the many theatres and subway lines.

Free WI-FI is available, but was very slow. Should you do have a car, there is a parking garage at the end of the street. Check out the many small local restaurants located one block over on 9th, between 44th and 54th streets away from the pricier establishments in Times Square area.

I stayed here one night in March. I was solo, on a business adventure. I got a room right up the flight of stairs, a couple doors down on the left. Room was older, but it was clean and charming in its own way. It has a really cool restaurant/bar downstairs. If I wasn't solo, I would of hung out there. It really looked fun, people were there every time I walked by. I opted to go to see The Book of Mormon, which is like two doors down. OMG, go and see it and stay here! After the show, I got a gyro at the convenience store right between this place and the theater. They rented bikes and computers as well had food. My gyro was soooo good! Go there too! I think for what I paid, $150, I got a good deal. NYC is all about location and you usually pay for it. I think this place breaks the mold and you should give it a try. Just remember, it isn't fancy but quaint, if you want fancy, you have to pay more.

I took a room at the Mayfair twice, before and after visiting Madrid.

It is 1 block from air train Jamaica station to 50th Station by subway E line from JFK.
As there is an escalator from the downtown platform of the 50th station of E line up to the ground level, it is all right even if you have suitcases.

The staff is very kind, and the front desk opens for 24 hours.
I checked out at 3:30 in the morning, but I could pick up a taxi easily because the hotel was located between 8th ave. and B’way.

The hotel was distance of half block to Food Emporium for 24 hours, and one block to Duane Reade, the drugstore.
You can access subway blue, red and yellow lines by 1-3 minute.

I stayed at double room with bathtub -512- for one night, and queen room with shower -201- for another night.
The quantity of the hot water of the bus was abundant.
There was a phone line in a bathroom.
There was the number of the electric outlet a lot.

As it was full of double room, I took queen room, but the price was higher and less space because the space of queen room was almost the same, rather smaller than double room.
It was barely enough to open two suitcases.

The sound of the air-conditioner was very loud.
Thus, I did not hear any sounds of the next room and elevator.
WiFi connection was not possible for both time. – DISAPPOINTED -

The baggage custody is 2 dollars each.

We read reviews before booking and they were pretty accurate. Small boutique type hotel that is in a great location in the theatre district. Rooms were small but served the purpose for us since it was only to sleep and shower in. Bathroom did look recently renovated. We were concerned that it would be noisy since we were right near the elevator but with the AC on we didn't hear anything. Was reasonable and would stay again.

Spent 3 nights here before catching a ship back to UK Its a small hotel but has character staff very helpful arrive early hours in the morning but no problem booking in was easy the elevator is small but adequate and the rooms are small but ok.Its location is great right in the centre of the theatre area and round the corner from Times square, and within walking distance of the major sites.
The desk clerk gave us directions to an all night Deli as we arrived late and noshed on a couple of delicious Pizzas. The hotel has charm and would recommend it.

I was worried when I first booked this hotel through Hot-Wire.com. Some reviews I read were less than hoped for; but!!! I really enjoyed stating there. I was in over the 4th of July weekend, and found it very charming. Quaint is the word I think this small Boutique Hotel deserves. When I came into the small reception desk, a couple were playing a piano and singing; which I found very intoxicating. The desk were very friendly and willing to help. The elevator was tiny but efficient if you don't have too many bags! The room I was in was small but clean and charming! The TV took a minute or so to start like it was on computer setup. Air was noisy; but that didn't bother me. I would recommend this hotel to singles or romantic couples. I would really like to give it 3 1/2 stars but the system seems not to have half star rating. I have been going to NYC for 45 years and this wasn't the worst Hotel I've stayed in. Try it. I think you would like this small charming Hotel!!!
