“Great option for family of 5 in NYC”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We have stayed at this hotel before and stayed again this month. The hotel has been renovated recently and the rooms and common areas are very nice, clean and upscale.
One of the best things, however, is that the rooms are huge! Especially by NY standards, but even anywhere. Our room had two very comfortable queen beds plus a sofa bed. We stayed there with our family of five and we felt there was room. Although not cheap, the price if the one room was still better than two rooms we would have had to take elsewhere. Would definitely stay again!

Lovely service and room for a short stay in NYC. We got a nice room on the 11th floor and it was quiet (which is nice in NYC) - as it is not on the main streets of Park or Madison; though relatively close (We walked easily to Time Sq).

The room was big enough to accommodate us and it was comfortable for a visit in September. It wasn't too chilly yet.

We paid quite a fair bit to stay here - I recall about $600/night (compared to other hotels in other cities) - but considering it is Manhattan, its Marriott's no less and it was right smack in the middle of NY fashion week - couldn't really complain!!

Staff at the hotel was polite, nice and very helpful during our stay.
There was also free wifi! Hooray for us who constantly needs to be connected!

Stayed there for 5 nights and had a great room on the 26th floor. Views where great, and the room was in great condition, modern and pleasant. It was close to the Subway, and everything else you need when visiting New York. The staff was very helpful and ensured a great stay.

We chose this hotel after searching for a hotel which could accommodate two adults and two teenagers in one room. This was the only one we could find and we were not disappointed, $300/night seems to be great value in Manhattan!

Location: The hotel is located on 3rd Avenue in Midtown between 52nd and 53rd streets. It is very close to the E and 6 subway lines (1 minute away). It is 15 minute walk from Times Square, very easy to get around and very safe neighbourhood (mostly business district).
The E and 6 lines can get you just about anywhere (touristy) in Manhattan, and only $2.75/trip.

I got the NYC subway app which I found very useful for deciding which train to get, the subway is not as good as London but it does the job to get around the tourist areas.

There are lots of restaurants close by, within two or three blocks you have everything from McDonalds to Smith and Wollensky (premier steak house). We found a great little cafe on 52nd/Lexington - the Oxford Cafe - served everything from Breakfast to lunch and dinner, great value, good food and great service.

Check in: Fast and efficient, we took a taxi direct from JFK T7, $60 including tip.

Room: Huge! Two queens and a sofa-bed, enough space for two adults and two teenagers. Our room was on the 24th floor and had a great view looking south towards the Chrysler building and the UN building. Beds were comfy, TV service good, only slight downside was the shower pressure...but is was not bad.

A big bug-bear of mine is when hotels do not offer free wi-fi in this day and age! The Marriott Courtyard passed with flying colours, they offer free, unlimited devices and very fast Wi-Fi!! Well done Marriot Courtyard, our teenagers thank you!

Breakfast: We didn't take the breakfast after reading reviews about the surrounding area and how there are so many food choices. The hotel does offer a breakfast option on the 12th floor where the whole area has great views on 3rd Ave, free PC's, free printers, plenty of comfy seats and charging points - a great facility and all free of charge.

We really enjoyed our stay, staff were very good and we would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing South or West.

The neighborhood seems safe. There are several light food choices - sushi, potbelly, subway, and an Irish Pub, for example. The rooms are modern, large and clean.

I stayed on the 22nd floor facing 3rd Ave. I couldn't see any popular landmarks from my room.

The staff was very nice, and it was a pleasant stay.

I stayed for two nights this week. I had a corner king which gave me an amazing view up 3rd Avenue and great lighting. The upgraded internet access cost about $7 per night and was reliable and fast. The room felt spacious by any standards. The bed was very comfortable, the bathrooms and room absolutely clean. Many families stay here but it does not feel over run by children at all. In fact, the number of friendly families from around the world that I met on the elevator made me feel happy to be here and proud to welcome families to NYC. I know from my own amazing childhood experience in NYC that these memories last a life time. A gym and the 12th floor common area are open to all guests. Rooms have a fridge and a microwave is available in the "market" area by the front desk. A Whole Foods is a few blocks away, as well as many drug stores nearby with a selection of foods, well beyond snacking and sweets. The front desk staff are more than happy to give you dinner utensils. Coffee shops are everywhere very close to the hotel. Be aware that stores that routinely sell beer do not sell wine in NYC. The "Ambassador" was an amazing wine store with a well price and expansive selection, only two or three blocks from the hotel. A florist, also very well priced with a lovely selection, is two blocks away. I was directed to both the wine store and the florist by the front desk staff. The location of the hotel is superb. But what truly earns this five point rating is the value: the rates here embarrass the more upscale places in Midtown. No where offers better staff, a bigger room, a better view, or a cleaner or more comfortable room. What one would get by paying $200-300 more per night would be access to room service and maybe a fancier bathroom. The staff here are especially and consistently gracious and helpful, including check in, maintenance, housekeeping, security and concierge service. After staying in six other Midtown locations, this is where I will return.

Room Tip: The corner king was spacious and full of light.

Green Features: Follows the well established practice of changing bed linens and towels as needed for short stays. Recycling was apparent.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. You hit on so many options and areas of the hotel. From our upgraded Internet service (we do have free wireless internet in all guest rooms), the sizes of our rooms, refrigerators in the rooms and available microwaves.... However I do love the part of your review mentioning memories that last a lifetime. We truly hope that we leave all our guests with positive happy memories of NY and our hotel. Thank you for your review.

We spent 4 nights there from July 24-28 2014 on the 28th floor with a great view. Our first night there we encountered a HUGE cockroach crawling on the bed, and I mean HUGE. we captured it and took it down to front desk, there were no other rooms available but they did send housekeeping up to change the bedding and help us look around for any others, the next day they upgraded us up a floor, bigger room and gave my family of four a complimentary breakfast which we never used, because... well we're in New York and no time to eat breakfast.

In all honesty though what does one expect right, especially when travelling to a city where you hear stories that insects like cockroaches are huge. The location was fantastic to subways, shopping, eating, drug store right next door... rooms were well cleaned daily, friendly staff- no complaints besides it gave us a good story to tell and we can say we experienced a NY sized cockroach

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel. First and foremost I am very happy to hear that your loved the Staff and loved our Location. About the insect, I can tell you we have procedures in place, though not common we want to make sure any situation like that is addressed immediately. Part of the procedures was to have a professional company check the room and rooms in the area.

I am so happy you enjoyed your stay, thank you for being a guest of our hotel.
