We stayed at the Hotel Metro for six days during a trip to New York to celebrate my son's 18th birthday. The hotel was brilliant - from the welcome card and chocolates to the bottles of water that were left for us. The location is perfect for getting out and about to all parts of Manhattan, and Central Park was one of our favourite locations. Although the breakfast was basic, it was more than adequte to set you up for the day, and being free, can't be complained about. I notice others have said it was noisy, well we think that's just the charm of New York - probably not the best place to visit if you want peace and quiet! We had a brilliant time and the Hotel Metro made it even better, particularly with the benefit of free WiFi so we could plan our trips the following day. When we had a problem with the safe, they quickly came up to the room and sorted it. The only niggles were I reported the phone didn't work which meant I'd had to go down to the lobby from the 10th floor to report the safe, but it never got sorted. Also, when we ate in the restaurant on our first evening, our steaks were far from the medium rare ordered, which we thought surprising for New York and were overpriced! However, our visit to Michael Jordan's Steak House at Grand Central Station more than made up for it, serving the best steak ever! All in all, we had a great time and look forward to returning to Hotel Metro in a couple of years time.

Just returned from 4 days 10-14 April with husband & two girls (20 & 18). this hotel perfect location with empire state round corner & macys opposite. Everything is in walking distance. Rooms extremely clean bit small but only sleeping in it. No noise & we were on 6th floor. Only downside was the breakfast - everything you could want food & drink wise especially for free but at certain times got a bit crowded in there. I would recommend hotels restaurant especially the hanger steak best I have tasted in a long time & I personally, along with my eldest would say it was a better steak than the recommended Benjamins steak house! The doormen especially helpful. Had a wonderful stay spent far too much but saw all the sights we wanted to. I would highly recommend the hotel & would stay again.

Room Tip: perfect location Empire State, Macys Times Sq

After reading many reviews of Manhattan hotels, we selected Hotel Metro. Our priorities in a hotel were cleanliness, location and helpfulness of staff. Hotel Metro exceeded expectations in all areas. All sections of the hotel - the lobby, breakfast area, elevators and most especially our room - were very clean and bright. We chose the Family Room because it had the 2nd bedroom. We had read many comments about how small the rooms are in NYC hotels and we felt this would give us some extra room - we were not disappointed. The main bedroom was spacious with plenty of room to put luggage and to walk around and even included a table for eating or to use as a desk. The second bedroom also had plenty of room. Both bedrooms had nice flat screen TVs. The bathroom was also spacious with marble counters and plenty of space for toiletries. The room was cleaned every day by the friendly houskeeping staff. The entire staff was helpful and welcoming and gave us directions, helpful advice and dining tips whenever we asked.

We also loved the location - a block away from the Empire State building and Macy's. It was close to shopping and dining and only about a 15 minute walk to Times Square and the theatre district - far enough away to be out of some of the noise and lights but close enough to be able to walk.

We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: Choose Family Room for 2nd BR

No Tea/Coffee facilities in room. You have to go down to the breakfast room for that.
Poor quality TV. Excessive noise from building work outside - even after 12:00 midnight.
Staff not very friendly. Continental breakfast very unimaginative. Toast, Yoghurt, Fruit. (same every day). Tea and Coffee not very good. Fridge in room tiny. WC. flush sometimes continued to fill indefinitely. Shower cramped and impossible to control water temperature. Safe in room did not lock. Noisy air conditioner/heater operates continuously and woke us up during the night.
The whole hotel is very 'dated'. Probably would have been excellent in 1960s.
The one good thing is the location. Just a few yards from Herald Square. Aparently the Hotel is being updated. It certainly needs it. We have ppreviously stayed at the Hamton Inn in Chelsea which was much better.

My teenager and I just spend several days in NYC and the Hotel Metro was a great place for our headquarters. The Art Deco look and feel, friendly and helpful staff, clean and nicely appointed room, and the helpful cleaning service were all high points. The hotel is located on the same block as the Herald Square subway station which was very convenient. We had a couple of small problems with our room and the staff acted to immediately solve the problems. The continental breakfast is a nice touch with good bagels and there is FREE wireless throughout the hotel. A good value hotel with character.

Room Tip: Ask for 2 double beds rather than a double room.

Having being moved here from the original hotel we stayed at we didnt know what to expect.. what a brilliant little oasis.

The hotel is located right round the corner from the empire state building, Macys and a few blocks from Times square..They have a brilliant conceirge service very helpful and on check out will look after your bags while you take your last look round the city. We were very lucky to be upgraded to a suite. With 2 queen sized beds in the main room and a seperate bedroom with a further queen size bed. You have your own mini fridge to store drinks after all your sight seeing. They have a roof top terrace for fantastic pictures of the empire state and to top it all off had a fantastic breakfast.. continental but had lots of different bagels, muffins and cereals.

They offer room service and a laundry service. I intened on returning to new york again and will be staying here..

Tip: If you visit central park be sure to get a horse and carraige. Our driver was Jazz! really knows his stuff.

Room Tip: They even have a hairdressers!
