“Honeymoon in New York”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2012

The hotel overall was very good however we were a little disappointed that it was our honeymoon and we had advised reservations prior to our visit requesting information on things to do and our email was forwarded to the concierge who never got back to us. Our room was on the third room and although the room was a great size, it was dark all the time. We had to have a light on continously. Get a room above the fifth floor. Other guests advised us they arrived at 1pm and if they wanted to get a room before 4pm, they had to pay for an expensive upgrade. The location was great, with subway stops at the end of the street. The roof top bar has just opened and has great views of the Empire State Building however it gets very busy with New Yorkers! The continental breakfast is okay but be warned the cutlery is plastic and the plates and bowls paper which is a littlle disconcerting. We made a mistake operating the safe, advised reception but the engineer never turned up and we were there for 6 nights.
Overall hotel lovely, lots of towels, big room size, clean, near to everything and would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: make sure the room is as high as possible, there are 12 floors.

We stayed he for 5 nights in March 2012. The hotel was very clean, bedroom was cleaned daily too. The size of our room was great we stayed in room 716. The free breakfast was very good and set us up well for the morning, we struggled to find a seat in the breakfast area on 1 morning but it wasn't long until a table became available. The lobby area was very nice and relaxing and the door man was very helpful too. Building work was happening in the week and they started at 7.30am but we didn't mind as we wanted to be up and out enjoying the city from 9am. The hotel had a roof top terrace with a close up view of Empire State building and a bar which opens at peak times, lovely place to sit and relax. This hotel is in an ideal spot, subway, macys, empire state,5th avenue all so close. This hotel made our trip perfect would stop here again and also recommend to any of my family, friends. Also I would ask the hotel to book a transfer from airport (Newark) as it was only $25 each and the taxi cost us $85 when we arrived. You can also book any event or sightseeing trip through them too. Fantastic hotel thank you!

Stayed here in early March 2012 and couldn't recommend the hotel highly enough. Fabulous location, with breakfast a REAL bonus. Wonderful staff, especially Elena, who couldn't have been more friendly or attentive. We can't wait to go back and have recommended it to friends and family

Stayed at the Metro in Dec 2011. Excellent location near Macys and the Empire State building.
The restaurant was great with a good bar attached. from other reviews the rooms are described as small but ours was fine with a decent sized shower room.
breakfast was basic continental and served till 11 great for a lie in after hitting the streets of Manhattan, will definately return.
The roof terrace was fabulous with great views.
It was a bit expensive to stay but that's New York.

Room Tip: If you stay on a Tuesday night theres a wine and cheese party..........lots of it

Im not normally one to write a review but after reading a few negative ones about Hotel Metro i felt i had to share our experience. We stayed for 4 nights in March 2012 and we had a great stay. Right in the middle of Manhattan with plenty to do all within walking distance, The Hotel Metro is a great base for anyone wanting to explore New York. Sure the rooms aren't massive, but how much time do you actually expect to be in it while you're in NY?? The bed was very comfortable. There is road noise from the front of the hotel but this is New York, not the english countryside! Everything is clean and tidy, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is excellent and the hotel has all the facilities you will need including a gym, restaurant, bar, free wifi, business centre with computers and a printer and a rooftop lounge with great views. Ignore the bad reviews and give this place a go, for the price, you cant go wrong!

Third time in New York for a Birthday visit. Stayed at Metro for four nights. We stayed in room 803 at front of hotel which was clean and had all we expected, a little noisy at night due to building work down the street, but we had no problem sleeping. The complimentary breakfast was good and the 24 hour tea/coffee was well used by us. The Metro Grill was excellent, we had two dinners there ( and across the street Brandon's Bar was equally as good on the other two evenings for dining). The roof top terrace with views of the Empire State Building and Top of the Rock must be superb in the summer months when the weather is warmer. All the staff we had dealings with were friendly and helpful. Location was good, 50 yards from metro and Macys at Herald Square and two blocks from Penn Station. All in all a pleasant visit and we would stay again.

Room Tip: The higher the better.

First time in New York to celebrate my 50th Birthday. Stayed at Metro for six nights. On arrival we were giving room 312 and immediately went down to ask if we could pay to upgrade. The room was tiny, dark and depressing with a building site for a view. The recepitionist stated that there was no other room available but may be able to move us the next day. We tried again the next day to be given the same answer. I did notice however, that Americans were been given upgrades! The hotel is in a fantastic location with an amazing roof top terrace. The metro bar serves excellent food- fanatstic if you had been walking all day and just wanted to chill in the evening. The breakfast was fantastic and the 24 hour tea/coffee was a bonus. The maid service was brilliant with constant supplies of toileteries and clean sheets everyday! Would we stay here again? without a doubt but only if i could be assured a better room!

Room Tip: Ask for high floor- refurbished rooms
