“Best of both worlds - great location and comfort.”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

The very elegant Metro Hotel has offered best of both worlds - great location and comfort and that's what you want when you're on a break in New York!
Hotel Metro is right in the heart of the City, at the door of Empire State Building, 5th Avenue, 6th Avenue, Macy's for shopping addicts ;) with walking distance to all attractions. Our visit lasted only 5 days, that was not enough to see all we wanted to, inspite of the close proximity to most of the iconic places.
I need to mention to everyone who wants to start and finish the fabulous time in NY to visit Top Roof Garden Bar - in the night!!
Come out of the Metro Hotel and turn left, once you reach 5th Avenue turn right. Walk all the time on the right side of the Avenue (I think about 4-6 blocks...) along you should see a sign outside inviting you to Roof Top Garden (I think it might be No 230 ??..... ) then walk into the building and the lift will take you to the garden exposing absolutely stunning views of the City with the Empire State Building right in front of you with Chrysler Building further on....
Then seat and enjoy your drink and food wrapped around in a very friendly, warm (heaters provided) atmosphere surrounded by the exquisit moment that will stay in your memory forever.

Well, let's get back to the ground ;)
The Metro Hotel is very tidy with cleaning services every day, very, very comfortable beds. Great part of the hotels service is the free continental breakfast served from 7.30 until 11.00, yummy and filling so much that we didn't eat anything until evening.
Please also bear in mind that you are going to be staying in a hotel that is in the centre of the city, meaning, you will hear all the time, I mean it, all the time! noises of the life in New York City ..... there's a purpose for the saying "The City Never Sleeps" and in very fact it does not. If you are a light sleeper as I am, supply yourself with earpluggs, you will need them for the night.

I would go on and on about it but I don't want to spoil your own astonishment in exploring the City. Just to mention that it was great to take the New York Water Taxi (Yellow one) to explore the vieww of Manhattan from the water and if you will take the Sightseeing Bus (Yellow as well) take the long route as the short one is not really fulfilling. Buy a ticket that is encompassing the Water Taxi and Sightseeing Bus it is very economical and well worth it.
Have an unforgattable time in this buzzing with life city!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a room on 5th floor with a window coming out at the front of the hotel, equipped with A...

Stayed here for 2 nights. Location is fantastic as has been said in other reviews. The breakfast was very welcome with lots of fresh bread etc.Our room was on the 9th floor. We had Premier Queen room with complimentary soft drinks and water and a coffee machine. The bed was very comfortable but the downside was the outside noise. There was construction work going on at the end of the street which went on all through the night and I was convinced the window was open it was so noisy. Single glazing was the problem. Had we been staying any longer we would have asked to be moved.

The other issue we had was we didn't find our check in and out experience was particularly friendly. There was no greeting or eye contact and on checking out we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our stay etc. I don't want to name the lady in question (the same receptionist checked us in and then out 2 days later) but reception is a customer's first face to face contact with a hotel and first impressions are important.

The concierge, porter and housekeeping staff were all very friendly.

All said and done we would stay there again but would ask for a quieter room. And perhaps the hotel would take on board feedback and look at how to encourage their receptionists to be a bit more welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for room at the back of hotel.

As everyone has previously said, location is the major thing about this hotel. Our second time at the Metro and again we got upgraded to a Suite, room 1102, in fact it was the same room as we had last time back in 2006 with the benefit of a renovation. Another major plus is the free continental breakfast, cereal, tea, coffee, juice, yogurts, fruit, muffins and danish, not trying to find somewhere for breakfast was a god send! Free WiFi in the room, (are you listening big hotels!) was fantastic for planning what and where to go.
Staff as ever are helpful and friendly and our suite was the icing on the cake. Some noise (but nothing to do with the hotel) in the bedroom due to the new aircon plant of the new hotel at the back but we were so tired we did not hear a thing once we went to sleep on the fabulously comfortable beds!
Fridge and complimentary soft drinks on arrival was another nice touch.

Don't forget to check out the amazing roof terrace view.

Highly recommended and can't wait to go back.

The Metro is a great little hotel in a first class location, close to Macys and Madison Square Garden, and just six blocks from Times Square, so if you choose to stay here you will be right in the thick of the action. We stayed for four nights, over a weekend, having flown into Newark airport from the UK. A taxi into the city from the airport took around 40 minutes. Our room was very comfortable, with great beds and pillows, although, like most New York hotels, not particularly large.
Breakfast was included in the room rate and included a great selection of muffins, bagels, pastries, fruit, yoghurt etc, as well as juice and really good coffee. My only complaint would be that there was not really enough seating at breakfast time, so it was a bit of a scramble for a table.
The hotel grill restaurant, however, cold not have been better. We ate here several times - the food was absolutely excellent, and the staff very friendly and attentive.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel, and will definitely be back next time I am in NYC!

Stayed at the hotel to celebrate my daughters special birthday. Great location, amazing beds. Hot drinks available free of charge at all times. Great breakfast and we were amazed that we could always get a table despite the dining room/lounge being not too large. Booked as a package with British Airways at very reasonable price. Don't miss the view from the rooftop.

This hotel was ideally situated with 5th Avenue round the corner, the Empire State Building the road in front, Macy's and Madison Square Garden a few minutes walk away and Times Square about 10 mins walk. Returned last Friday morning after an overnight flight and would definitely return to this hotel. I booked through British Airways and I wasn't given the option of a room upgrade, in saying that the room we had, although small and a little update wouldn't go amiss, was quiet and comfortable. The bed I would have brought back, I thought it was that comfortable. We didn't have a view but it it mean't a good nights sleep that was fine by me. The room had USB sockets as well as regular ones and a decent sized LCD TV. The bathroom supplied, soap, shampoo, shower gel and hair conditioner as well as a hairdryer. The room had a fridge (empty) and a free safe. Breakfast was included which was continental and consisted of various bagels, croissant, danish and bread to toast. Apple or orange juice, tea and coffee, yogurts, butter and spreads as well as bananas, apples, etc. We found this enough but for others they may want to go elsewhere. Tea and coffee is also available 24hr a day free of charge in the breakfast room. There is also a business center on the 1st floor which you can use to check your emails or print out reservation tickets as I did for the 911 memorial - all free of charge! Go up to the penthouse floor and the outside terrace for great views of Empire State Building. Overall I was impressed with the hotel and the staff there.

Room Tip: We had 515 which was at the back of the hotel so no view. However, it was quiet.
