I loved this hotel - I only stayed one night, but it was great. It's literally in the heart of the city (practically at the foot of the empire state building) The air conditioning was AWESOME as we stayed during the heat wave of July 2013 (it was 110F according the heat index). We entered the room to find it nice and cool. The bathroom was very nice and pretty spacious, soaps and shampoo were of very high quality. Towels were big enough and plentiful. Furnishings were nice and comfortable (one floor lamp had a finickey knob). The roof top deck was great with bar service from 5pm-10pm! We did not stay up there too long as it was so hot, but in cooler weather it would be so much fun! The continental breakfast was GREAT for a continental breakfast. Full sized delicious muffins with a wide variety, yogurts, fruits, juices, cereal, bagels, etc all constantly being restocked - I saw a server every couple of minutes checking stock. It was quite good. Everyone who offered service was courteous, polite, smiling, and very good. Doors were held, additional services offered. Location was PRIME!!! And the price was fair considering the quality AND location - it really won't get much better!

Two cons, slow elevators (I think they were old). No real parking (but then you're in NYC - forget about it!) They do apparently offer a discount for a nearby garage.

I very much look forward to staying here again!

The room: it was big enough, very clean (one morning we waited for the cleaning lady to finish the room and it took her more than half an hour) , very comfortable bed. The room was coldish, the heating worked but not to our complete satisfaction. But that's only a minor drawback.
From our room we had a nice view of th Empire State Building.

The hotel: nice lobby, the breakfast room is small and usually very crowded. As for the breakfast buffet, we were perfectly satisfied. We only had problems with the plastic cutlery, plates and cups, which were thrown away after the meal. Environmentally seen this is definitely not 21st century... A little bit of effort from the hotel would be very appreciated here. They must be as shocked as we were about the number of bags that were filled with trash every day at breakfast.

A nice bonus is that you get free coffee and tea 24h a day in the breakfast room.

There is a room where you can use computers and print out things. Very convenient for online booking and priniting out booking confirmations.

The rooftop bar is amazing: that must be the nicest view one can get of the Empire State Building.

The location: couldn't be better! Empire State Building, Penn Station, Tmies Square... Everything seems to be around the corner! There is a subway station just a short walk away from the hotel

The staff: staff in the breakfast room was friendly, as well as cleaning staff. The problem really was staff at the reception. We had the problem that - for whatever reason- the visa card did not work at the first try. So they asked us to sit down in the lobby and try again after a while. This could have been done in a friendlier way. When they called us to cone for a second try they just shouted 'hey' and gave us a hand sign to come. Well, we actually have names and we speak English, so communication could have been a bit less 'primitive'

All in all - apart from rude staff and plastic cutlery- it is a very nice hotel!

Spent one week in the Hotel Metro in Manhattan the second time after my first stay in 2011. Thisplace is just great! Not only that the hotel offers complementary breakfast and 24 hours coffee and tea, the rooms are just perfect in size and equipment and very clean. The staff is supportive and van always give you tips and advice in any case.

We traveled with our son and nephew, both 20, so ideal when we found family room here. We had a suite with a double bed in one room, two large singles in a separate room. That room also had a table and chair set as well. Off the entrance hall was a bathroom, built in wardrobe with safe, small room with separate sink and fridge. Both bedrooms had tv's. One looked out over street with view of Empire State Building.
The location was superb, one end of the street was Macy's and a subway entrance, the other end was 5th Avenue.
You cannot get your room til 4pm ,but the desk was happy to check us in and store our bags before that, we could also get a coffee at any point as there is no tea/coffee facilities in room.
Breakfast is a simple help yourself job - various bread/yogurt/fruit. One day had a full cooked breakfast from the grill attached to the hotel.
We pretty much had an itirninry worked out for our stay so didn't need much help from the desk.
From the hotel could walk to Times Square, Macy's, up Fifth Ave to Central Park. Took subway downtown to Ground Zero, Staten Island Ferry, and uptown to Museums and Yankee Stadium.
Big bonus is the rooftop bar. The week before we went it was listed in the New York Times and was fantastic. Sat in the shadow of the Empire State Building, got the last of the sun, draught beers and cocktails.
As you would imagine endless choice of bars and restaurants within walking distance.
If and when we go back to NYC would have no hesitation in booking here again.

My wife and I spent 3 nights there at the start of our honeymoon earlier this month and it was great. The room was quite small but we were out so much that didn't cause any problems. Also it was clean and well furnished so no complaints. Brilliant location, great breakfast. The roof bar wasn't great value but did have great views. No complaints and we will stay there again next time we are in New York.

Room Tip: Might be worth asking for a large room if any are available as we were a bit short of space

Just returned this morning from a 4 night stay at this hotel before joining a cruise out of New York. We arrived at check-in about 2pm on Tuesday 9th July having pre-paid for a premier queen room, we were told a room was ready but had been upgraded to a mini suite.(Room 1206). What a lovely surprise.....and what a lovely room. Bedroom, separate lounge and bathroom. And complimentary soft drinks in the fridge. What a brilliant start to our holiday.
As everyone says, this hotel is so convenient being in the position it is in, and whenever we will return to New York our stay will always be here. All the staff were very helpful and all doormen were excellent. Just stay here and no where else!!!!

Room Tip: High floor would be less noisy.

Horrible customer service from reception staff. Never a friendly smile for the whole 8 days.
Don't bother using the tour desk man. He suggested us the go NYC green tour bus guide. Biggest waste of $30 ever spent. Should have just caught a normal bus.
