“Perfectly located to discover NYC!”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Hotel Metro is a 'small' hotel for New York (only 12 floors!) and it has a lot of excellent qualities. It is perfectly located to discover New York: next door to Macy's and to a subway station, it is in walking distance of Times Square, Grand Central Terminal, Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. The hotel is stylishly decorated in Beaux-Arts and there's music from the 1940s and 1950s in the hall and in the breakfast room (even if most guests wear shorts and T Shirts!). Our bedroom (premier queen) was not very big but it was a haven to come back to every day (we stayed for 7 nights which is perfect to discover NYC). The air condition works very well, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom small but pleasant and stylish too. The hotel is spotlessly clean and our room was done everyday by attentive staff. Everything we needed was in our bedroom: iron, iron board, safe, coffee machine, ipod dock, umbrella, good internet connection.
Breakfast is good and varied (continental, but muffins are so big they can feed two people!) and there's a concierge called Jeff who is very helpful, friendly and efficient.
The only little setback we had was a rather cold and distant check-in (after travelling for 12 hours you expect a little warmth). I also personally found it dismaying that we were given disposable plates and cutlery at breakfast. It doesn't help to make NYC a green city, the amount of waste on the pavements piling up every evening is plain shocking to an environmentally-minded person.
Having said that, Hotel Metro is definitely a place to recommend, compatible with a honeymoon or a family trip.

Second time in the hotel metro, great location and rates highly for value for money when compared to other hotels. I did note on this second visit that the rooms are looking a bit dated, old fashioned and noisy air conditioning units for example. We had to change rooms as the first one we were offered smelled of damp which was caused by a soaking wet carpet due to a dodgy air conditioning unit. However they changed us straight away, no problems there. the location of our room was on the front, so it was very noisy but only to be expected I suppose! Breakfast is a bit of an experience too, although there is a good range of breakfast items, I did not like the fact that you have to use plastic cutlery and plates, a bit like a child's tea party! Also it is near impossible to get a table.
However, even with these little niggles you can't fault the hotel for value for money or location, you get what you pay for after all!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back if you don't want to here the street noise!

My daughter and I recently stayed here for 3 nights. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. I reserved a superior queen room but at check-in we were upgraded to a queen suite on the 11th floor. It was fabulous! When I made the reservations I mentioned it would be my daughter's birthday and there was a surprise waiting for her in the room. She loved it! Our room was very spacious with a separate living area with a comfy couch and dining area. We had two big screen TV's, 2 closets, 2 refrigerators and a beautiful bathroom. The shower with 3 shower heads was awesome after a long hot day of sightseeing. Housekeeping did a wonderful job everyday. The breakfast was more than adequate. It was a great selection of different bagels, muffins and pastries along with cereal, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee & juice. We were pretty hungry when we checked in so we enjoyed a nice lunch at the Metro Grill. We visited the Grill one more time for desert and drinks. Delicious! As many others had mentioned, the view from the rooftop terrace is great. On the day of our departure I was able to use the business center to print out our boarding passes. It was very easy and convenient. Our flight wasn't until late in the afternoon so the doorman held our luggage in the lobby while we did some last minute exploring and called us a cab when we were ready to head to the airport. The location is ideal for walking to many attractions. If you don't want to walk, there's a subway station at the end of the street. There's was also lots of shopping nearby. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Great views and little road noise on the higher floors.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights with my friend. Upon arrival at the hotel we did have a problem with the room but this was resovled in 20 minutes and we ended up having a lovely room. The hotel is in a great location as it was a 10 minutes walk from times square and right next to the empire state building. The staff were friendly and always helpful when we had questions and the breakfast was lovely and a great way to start the day. I would deffinitly recomend this hotel to my customers, friends and family.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with my elderly father. It is a lovely boutique hotel with a great old Hollywood atmosphere. We shared a family room which has 2 double beds in the main room and a separate bedroom with a king size bed. The beds were very comfortable, the air-conditioning was great (the temperatures were close to 100 degrees while we were there). The decor is lovely and the rooms were very clean. There is also a rooftop terrace that has a fantastic view of the Empire State Building. The free continental breakfast was sufficient for getting you started for the day.
Every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful. The location was great. If you are able to walk, it's an easy walk to many areas of interest and there is a Subway station less that a block from the hotel.

We generally like to stay closer to Rockefeller Plaza, but decided to try Hotel Metro because we needed a family suite to accommodate the four of us. We couldn't have made a better choice for our situation. We had two separate bedrooms, bath, a tiny kitchenette, and a lovely foyer. Our reservations included a continental breakfast and a Wine tasting Event on Tuesday evening. From the "rooftop" terrace we could enjoy an evening cocktail every night with perfect views of the Empire State Bldg. Our location was perfect too, with a subway stop only a block away. We were centrally located to shopping, parks, tourist attractions, the garment district, and evening entertainment near Times Square. We covered the city from north to south, and always found our room a welcome retreat after a long day of exploring and discovery.

Room Tip: We loved being on a high floor with a two-room corner suite. We also had several windows which were...
