“Great location, decent rooms”
Reviewed 7 June 2010

I stayed with some friends and we had the room with the 3 beds. it was perfect for us and affordable when split 3 ways. The rooms were clean and were a fairly decent size. The beds were comfortable and they kept us stocked with the towels. The staff was helpful except one guy who was a bit short with us. However in general everyone was friendly. The front desk guy gave us a local map with the subways and local attractions The continental breakfast was well stocked. We didn't eat at the restaurant or try the roof top bar as there were so many other options in NY. We could walk to so many places 34th street ( shopping) and very convenient to the subways..The cab ride from la Guardia averaged ~$30- so not bad.
Complaints: The elevator and hallways were hot. The shuttle service was full when I tried to book the night before, but this may not be their fault. It was a bit noisy at night with the traffic, but I was so tired that I dosed off pretty quickly. Would stay there again.

Very good location and central to tourist attractions. The hotel is welcoming and clean & comfortable with good facilities including complimentary wi-fi and continental breakfast. The art deco theme really works for the hotel. It was also nice to have a roof top terrace to sit out and enjoy the lovely weather. A definate recommendation.

I wanted a well located and reasonably good standard hotel at a reasonable (for New York!) mid-range price. The Hotel Metro proved ideal. Well maintained, good quality furnishings, very convenient location, friendly and helpful reception staff, very acceptable breakfst, adn a roof-top terrace with a good view of the Empire State building. Recommended.

We had a long weekend in New York and stayed here for 3 nights, and stayed in a family room which has two bedrooms and a bathroom all in one so very suitable for a small family group.

This is an OK hotel. It’s very well located just off Fifth Avenue, 10 minutes from Broadway and Times Square. As you might expect prices are relatively high in Manhattan, and this was $500 per night including all taxes. The family room was spacious and comfortable, but it felt a little old and tired.

The hotel is being renovated which is certainly needed in the rooms and hallways.
We were not disturbed in any way by the work going on, and the lobby is very nicely done out in a 30s style.

The breakfast was OK with coffee, juice, cereal, toast, muffins and bagels but really it’s nothing to write home about. The main breakfast room is quite comfortable with large chairs, a few sofas, big tables and plasma TV all in a setting that’s designed to look like a library or lounge with a lot of movie memorabilia. However, if the hotel is full (and it was when we were there) you may not find room here and you’ll be in the annexed breakfast room which is essentially a large room filled with tables and chairs in a very random and cramped arrangement. If this were the only breakfast room then we’d be giving it a one star, but as it happens for two mornings we were able to enjoy the comfort of the lounge and only once were we annexed.

We didn’t use the bar or restaurant.

The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. Bathroom was fine too, and there was no problem with cleanliness.

Overall this is a difficult hotel to rate. There’s nothing really wrong with it. It was OK. But we wouldn’t stay here again because we’ve stayed in better and this just didn’t quite make the grade for us. Actually the family room was the big attraction of the Metro because the alternatives were a suite or two rooms elsewhere both of which would have been very much more expensive.

So, in summary: great location, clean, comfortable and relatively inexpensive. If you normally stay at a Fairmont this isn’t for you.

We stayed at the Hotel Metro for 4 nights in May 2010.

When we arrived our room was not quite ready so they stored our luggage and advised us that tea and coffee was free 24/7 and to help ourselves. Always a bonus after a long day site seeing.

Once our room was ready we went to unpack and as it was my husbands birthday there was a welcome note, some chocolates and bottled water for him - a nice touch. The room was a good size and the bed was comfy.

We were on the 11th floor at the front of the hotel and the road noise was quite load but apart from this no complaints.

The hotel is within walking distance of all of the places you would want to visit - 5/10 mins from Macys, Times Square and the Empire State building. It is also very close to one of the main subway lines.

I would definately recommend this hotel - Enjoy your stay!

Hotel Metro was a lovely hotel - very central, approx a 5 min walk to Macy's and 10 mins to Times Square. Staff were friendly and the hotel was very clean - rooms were serviced daily (we only stayed 4 nights and our room was serviced every morning). the bathroom was clean and tidy, no shower curtain which was my main preference! A free breakfast was included, bagels, muffins, pastries, cereal, fresh fruit, tea, coffee and juice. our first room was a twin (make sure to confirm your room preference after you book) which was huge but we had requested a double. staff were happy to move us the next day but the room was teeny (or perhaps cosy - depends how you look at it!) great value, great location - would stay again :)
