“Great Midtown Location”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

We have been staying at The Martinique for the past 6 years during the Thanksgiving holidays and really enjoy the great location (just around the corner from Macy's). Subway access to Herald Square is right outside the front door of the hotel. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful with info about NYC. We will continue with our tradition at The Matinique.

Room Tip: Interior rooms on higher floors are much quieter.

The first thing I did when I entered my room was use the bathroom. It reaked of piss. I used a towel and some soapy water to wipe down the floor and it helped. Obviously their housekeeping staff isn't very top notch. Also the food is expensive as hell.

This hotel is in a great location if you're into Macy's Herald Square (almost opposite) or want to head to Chelsea and south Manhattan, but a long haul from the top end of 5th Avenue. We were here over Black Friday weekend so it was busy!! It's also on a really busy corner so you arrive at the hotel feeling slightly stressed, not a calm arrival! The lobby was always crowded (lots of air crew and tour groups coming and going) with nowhere to sit and relax, check-in was functional at best and nowhere near as welcoming as at other places we've stayed (Elysee, Helmsley Central Park). Breakfast was packed in the buffet room, so we headed down the stairs to the Cafe Martinique which was much more civilised. The room was ok (well maintained and well serviced) but could do with a couple of trimmings to make it cosier. Tried to upgrade to the Club floor but check-in didn't even seem interested in looking. Bed was very comfortable and the hotel was not noisy (we were at the back) once you were away from the lobby. It did the job but we won't rush back.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of November. The hotel is in a great spot within 10 minutes walk of Times Square. On arrival we were greeted by door staff who opened the door for us and we entered a grand looking lobby area. Check in was handled efficiently and we were soon in our room.

We were a bit disappointed by the room...despite having booked a business class room it seemed small and lacked the features like bathrobes that other Radisson hotels have. We called down to reception to confirm we were in the right class of room and the hotel confirmed we were. However a few minutes later the phone rang again and we were told we were upgraded to a club level room on the top floor (18th). We said it wasn't necessary as we only called them to confirm, however they insisted so we moved. Our new room was bigger, although the bathroom was still a little underwhelming. The bathroom was clean but felt a little old, was small and despite being marble somehow didn't scream opulence and luxury.

Our new room was dual aspect and had great views of the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building so we were very happy.

The bar staff at the hotel bar were very good, including mixing up bespoke cocktails for us and being generally chatty and welcoming. We did struggle a bit with service in the hotel restaurant but the service during other evenings and also every breakfast was top notch. The adjoining 'Petit Poulis' restaurant was very very nice.

Despite being on the top floor the room was a little noisy, I think from the lift machinery however after the first night it didn't bother us too much.

All in all we had a great stay and would use the hotel again on a return trip to NY. The only things preventing a 5 star review are the small issues with service, noise and the bathroom.

Great location, great customer service. There is a subway station right outside the door which was very convenient. It was also close to Times Square and the other popular attractions. We bought the metro 7 day pass which gave us unlimited rides so we would stop at our hotel just to rest for a few minutes and refresh for our next destination. The hotel employees were all so friendly. The front desk clerks and the manager were very helpful in getting our room upgraded. The first room we had was a queen suite but we wanted a king suite. They tried to get us one but they only had a queen suite on the penthouse level so we took that. Unfortunately that room was smaller than the first but we stayed there anyway because it was at the top and we heard the noise level was better up there. We had a nice box of chocolates as a welcome gift. That was a nice surprise. We had free breakfast buffet vouchers for all the days which was great for our budget. There are Korean restaurants and bars across the street which we did enjoy. We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 1809 was small compared to the suite on the 7th floor. The bathroom was too small for two peop...

We had the pleasure of staying for 5days at the radisson Martinique. We were celebrating 30 years of marriage and decided to spoil ourselves! We could not have chosen a better hotel, the staff are tremendous in their knowledge of the area and cannot do enough to make you feel at home and welcome. I don't like to name people, but Ronnie out the front, Caroline and Christopher on the desks, Maria the maid and Lorrie the customer services manager all went what seemed like the extra mile, but I think that everyone gets treated with the same care.

The hotel is situated bang in the middle of NYC and travel via the metro is so simple and quick. It is a beautiful old building that is in great shape inside, clean, comfortable and inviting.

We look forward to returning in the not too distant future. Many thanks to,everyone for a trip that we will never forget for all the right reasons!

Best regards

John and Helga rose.
