“Great rooms, very clean, well worth a stay”
Reviewed 2 March 2009

I really enjoyed my stay at the Giraffe Hotel. It's ideally located, very close to Union Square and 5th Ave. Some great restaurants very near by and excellent service. All the staff where very pleasant and friendly.
The free wine and cheese each evening in the bar area is a very nice extra touch.

We spent Valentine's weekend at Giraffe and didn't want to leave. We live about 45 minutes from the city, so it wasn't much of an escape in distance but it sure seemed like it!
I have friends who recommended the hotel and the positive reviews were echoed here on TA.
We checked in and found our room was lovely. Rose petals were scattered, champagne chilling and chocolate covered strawberries waiting. Again, this was at extra cost but really made the room welcoming. Everything was pristine and comfortable. Though we had dinner reservations in 30 minutes, the comfort of the bed left my husband to have a quick nap before we left. We ate at Olanna which is just around the corner and was DELICIOUS! The lobster risotto was a dream...
We had breakfast delivered to our room the next morning (extra $10 charge to get it delivered, otherwise it's free) which included various items we'd checked off from a menu the night before. We ate in the lobby the next morning and it was just as fresh and plentiful as it had been when it was delivered to our room.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My husband called a few days prior to arrange to have roses sent to the room. Roses on Valentine's Day in NYC are a fortune, but my husband informed the concierge he didn't want to spend his life savings on some flowers. The hotel arranged to have a lovely bouquet of a dozen roses sent to our room first thing Valentine's morning (they even came when I was in the shower) and they were beautiful!
We visited the Museum of Natural History, Metropolitan Museum of Art & saw a show in the theater district. Though the location of the hotel was not too close to these areas, I preferred a less busy neighborhood and a short cab ride. We never had a problem getting a cab once and nothing was more than 10 minutes away.
It's rare we stay in the city if not at a friend's apartment, but this was a wonderful Valentine's weekend I would love to make a new tradition!
Only not-so-great part was with the parking. I pulled up, saw the doorman and asked about guest parking, and he was quick to help us take our bags from the trunk and take the car off our hands. He did not, however, mention the charge for parking. Nor did they mention it at the front desk when we checked in. The charge just appeared on the bill at check out. I don't think it was too much, maybe $40 for two nights, but it would've been nice to be informed. (Then again, I don't often drive to hotels and this may be commonplace)

One of the most attentive staff that I have ever had. Wine and Cheese in the afternoon and continental breakfast very good. The location is excellent for me. Many restaurants nearby and Union Square nearby.
Also near subway. We had a suite and it was good for our daughters visiting in the hotel with us.

This is our second time staying at the Giraffe. Despite other posts saying the rooms are small, they actually are quite decent in size. When comparing to a small town or other cities, it is either the same size or a tad smaller). Compared to other new york hotels, the rooms are large. They also have high ceilings and are very tastefully furnished and perfectly clean. They do have turndown service, yep with the chocolates on the pillows too. The front desk is very friendly (compared to other New York hotels) flexible and courteous, even if a customer takes out a bad mood on them throwing a temper tantrum in public over non-related issues. It seems quieter there in the winter, perhaps due to lack of construction as is consistent throughout New York in the summer and fall. They offer many free food/meal services and have a beautiful lounge restaurant with piano and entertainment at night. Door persons are always friendly and smiling. I dont feel they could do anything more to improve. Perhaps any negative comments can be attributed to the person posting themselves (if you are grouchy snarling and mean tempered, well people may not receive you as open heartedly everywhere you go) I have seen some atrocious customer behaviour due to ignorance on their part and wouldn't want to be on the receiving line of their condescending tirades. This hotel is classy and the front lines i give much respect to staying cool, calm and courteous under pressure.

This is a lovely small hotel. The rooms are beautifully maintained, the staff is very helpful, and the free breakfast and wine/cheese is terrific. The lobby has a computer set up with a printer, free internet there and in rooms. The location was perfect for us.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Hotel Giraffe this week -- the staff was so attentive, and the room was charming, well appointed and who wouldn't love the juliet balcony overlooking Park Ave. Close to great restaurants and Union Square, subway. Delightful lobby with refreshments and a wonderful breakfast each morning... A must stay in the Flatiron District. We're planning to make it a regular stop -- but also are eager to stay at their other hotels in the city - each with a theme.

Absolutely loved this great hotel in Midtown! The room (BR suite) was stylish and comfortable--best bed that I've slept in on the road. The staff were always available, friendly, and helpful. The complimentary continental breakfast (with *real* NY bagels!) was nicely arranged in the relaxing lobby, and the breakfast staff were always ready to hand you another cup of coffee. Given the location, service, price, Hotel Giraffe is truly a gem in the big city. Can't wait to go back!
