Although the rooms are tiny and basic, I wouldn't expect more being that the hotel is in NYC and a historic hotel. It was enough room for our family of three, the staff was courteous and the lobby was absolutely gorgeous. It is within walking distance to many tourist attractions. Ohhhh, and there is a rooftop club with beautiful views.

I attended a conference held at the Roosevelt. I will stay elsewhere the next time I attend. My room was very small, and it was not cleaned while I was there. (There was a piece of dirty scotch tape laying very visible on the floor of the bathroom when I checked in. I left it there during my 3 day stay to see if it would be swept up. It wasn't. Trash cans weren't emptied either.)

Wireless internet was poor, room was too small to work in. I do not recommend for business travel.

I have stayed many times in the Roosevelt Hotel. The location is fantastic with great access to the city and surrounding areas via train station. The atmosphere is wonderful as it has kept the feeling of the grand olde hotel. The rooms are in good shape aside from the bathrooms which are dated and could use a freshen up. But who spends a lot of time in a bathroom anyway when they are in NYC??? Service and staff are both great. Recommend. It is where I first try to book when coming to the city.

My wife & I stayed here for 6 nights in May 2014.
The hotel lobby is very grand and you get the feel of it being an old, well loved hotel.
The staff were very helpful the room was spacious and comfortable.
The Roosevelt Grill restaurant seved a good breakfast and you could get good, evening meals in the bar area. The restaurant did not open in the evening - we were told that tis was due to a lack of bookings, which made it uneconomical to keep open.
There is also a rooftop bar area, which tended to get very crowded and is probably more for younger people.
The hotel is ideally siuated on Madison Avenue and close to the Empire State Building, Times Square, Grand Central Station and the south end of Central Park. Also, a cruise on the Circle Line around Manhatten Island is definitely recommended

Room Tip: Get a room on the 10th floor or above for great views across Manhatten.

I booked a 5 night stay between 3rd June and 8th June 2014 at The Roosevelt Hotel to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, our package with Expedia included direct flights from Manchester to JFK and airport transfers to the hotel in a Go Shuttle.

I had booked a "Cozy Queen" and upon arrival was allocated Room 1802. Having read some negative reviews here on Tripadvisor I was a little apprehensive as to what to expect but need not have worried. The room was more than adequate in terms of its size and had the advertised queen sized bed, a writing table, some chairs and suitable storage for luggage etc. The bathroom was quite small and only had a walk in shower (no bath) but it was clean and functional, the bed was very comfortable, the large HD TV had a good choice of channels to watch, all-in-all I was actually very impressed with the room.

Regarding hotel location - this could not be bettered. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Central Station, a 10 minute walk from TImes Square, a 10 minute walk to The Empire State Building / Macy's, a 15 min walk to South Central Park and is just around the corner from 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue. From the hotel we paid $8 for a taxi ride to see the Intrepid Air and Space Museum (well worth a trip btw) and also used Central Station as a gateway to the Subway to use Service 4 / 5 which is an express subway train to Fulton St (for 9/11 Memorial) and Battery Park (for Statue of Liberty ferrys). The subway only costs $2.50 per person per trip... Tip, if using the subway during your visit get an MTA Metrocard from the Subway located in Central Station and load it with about $20.00, if there are two of you can share and swipe the same MTA card at the turnstiles.

Back to the hotel review....

Regarding service at the hotel - one word and that is "Excellent". The maids cleaning our room did a super job and we had some nice little chats with them all. The hotel concierge was especially helpful with advice about travel times and tips (some of which I have shared above).

Why I have not given not allocated 5 stars... well, sometimes the water pressure was a little low in the shower and the aircon unit was a little noisy, there was also no tea or coffee making facilities in our room. But who cares when the experience of visiting New York and using this particular hotel is so fantastic.

We are looking forward to a return to New York next year and I will certainly use this hotel again.

If the hotel management are reading this, well done and thank you!

Room Tip: Depends on your budget - the Cozy Queen is very pleasant, comfortable and adequate. You can always s...
