“A bargain for NYC”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

We enjoyed our stay at LaQuinta. After researching hotels this was the cheapest I found in Manhattan. (Also had the cheapest parking) Couldn't ask for a better location, close to shopping on 34th street. Right smack dab I the middle of Manhattan. One block away from the Empire State Building. Only down side is that there were only 2 elevators and on weekends it tends to get busy for the roof top bar. Had to wait for elevator. Minor problem compared to everything else.

First time staying with La Quinta. Reservation was made many months prior to stay through La Quinta .....I was quoted a room rate, per night, for two people with an AARP discount. Imagine my surprise, upon check in, to be told that the room rate would be greater and that my reservation had been for one person only. Despite my protests and confirmation statement, I was charged the higher amount. There was no part on behalf of the clerk (Ronica) or the hotel to resolve the mix up. Customer service is obviously NOT a priority with La Quinta! The location was good and the room was adequate. Sadly, the concierge could barely speak English and could not help us with directions to the Lincoln Tunnel. We've traveled to NYC many times and staying at the La Quinta Manhattan may not be in the cards for a return visit. There are far too many other options for travelers to NYC.

The Manhattan Hotel on 32nd Street is New York City Historical Building, that has always been a hotel. This past year the lobby of this hotel was completely redecorated and is just beautiful. The location is perfect: the Empire State Building on the next block, Macy's one more block over, and, of course, Speedy's for fresh wonderful food, a Starbucks, and just 2 walking blocks from Penn Station. I hate to say just how perfect this hotel and location is, because I always want a room available for ME when I travel to New York City.

We've stayed at La Quinta hotels/motels many times. In fact we stayed at this La Quinta about 2 years ago and I was happy with the hotel;however, this past visit showed that it is in need of renovation. My husband and I stayed at this hotel last week, May 30. The location was very good, close to everything, including the subway. We checked in dropped off our belongings and returned at night. At night we put on our deadbolt as we normally do when staying at a hotel. When we woke up and attempted to leave our room in the morning, we found that we were locked in and could not open the door. We immediately called the front desk and they sent someone up to help us. The man that was sent up said that we should have pushed on the door at the top while trying to get out. Apparently there is a trick to opening the door which we were not told about when checking in. It is far from the usual way of opening a door by just lifting the handle up. You must physically push on the door to open it. Having come from a family of fire fighters, I was shocked because had there been a fire, we would have been cooked. I mentioned this again at check out because I was truly horrified about the incident. They seemed casual about the incident, but thanked us for telling them. Another reason for the less rating was the breakfast. The bagels were rubbery compared with our previous stay there and the knife to cut the bagel was so dull, it smashed the bagel completely. The coffee and orange juice were watered down. In short, compared with my stay 2 years ago, it has shown wear and tear and the quality has lessened.

Room Tip: Check your deadbolt and make sure the door opens before retiring for the night.

Dear flgetawaymom,
Thank you for your review and for pointing out a few of our issues. We are trying to work on getting better coffee for breakfast. We also sincerely apologize for the issue with the dead bolt. When you push down on the handle, the dead bolt should release and open. It will not release if you push up on the handle. In the event of an emergency or fire, our staff is trained to help evacuate all guests in their rooms, even if they are stuck.
We have just recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation including the lobby, breakfast room, and all guest rooms. We hope you will give us another chance on your next trip to New York City.

We stayed here for 2 nights 14-16 may, and were pleasently suprised with this hotel. The staff is friendly and helpfull, the rooms are small but very cleverly designed. You have room for everything you need in a hotel. Our first room was on a lower level was noisy so we asked to change to a higher level. The next morning our wish was fulfilled. The breakfast is very good for a continental one.
The neighborhood is not so good but it does not affect the stay in this hotel. It is well located in the heart of Manhattan. Good value for it's price.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor. Is less noisy from outside and eaven the AC is quiter.

I am a La Quinta member and have enjoyed their hotels for several years now. We had reservations there for three nights from May 22-25 for four of us. The bed does not have a mattress as most of us know. It is a big piece of foam on top of a steel foundation. The bathroom has an exhaust fan but does not work very good. After a shower, the walls are sweating. The thermostat leaves the room either freezing cold or summer hot. The breakfast room is tiny and most of the time for breakfast, is crowded beyond belief . The eggs have NO taste ..the pancakes are hard and cold....No brewed decaf is available. No wonder all new yorkers seem to be "up tight"...The woman sitting at the concierge desk does NOT even know how much the taxi would be to La Guardia....It is located in Korea town and yes it is within walking distance to Times Square. It is two blocks from a subway station and is not too bad to walk as long as you can navigate between all of the garbage bags lined up on the sidewalks

Room Tip: We were on the ninth floor and could hear every noise on the street. Pay a little extra and stay som...

Dear karendebe,
Thank you for your review. We are disappointed and surprised that you did not enjoy your stay. The majority of our guests have a very good night’s sleep on our memory foam mattresses. We’re sorry you were not happy with the breakfast either, but will take note of what you mentioned. We try to provide lots of variety and good quality items and we continually reevaluate our offerings to see where improvements can be made. In fact, we just completed a multi-million dollar renovation of the entire hotel including the lobby which was designed by the accomplished New York designer, Jessica Shaw.
The taxi fare to La Guardia is not a set rate; rather it is metered like almost anywhere else in the city. So the rate can vary greatly depending on the traffic and she did not want to give you wrong information. However, taxi fares to JFK are set at a fixed rate of $52 plus tolls.
Unfortunately, we have no control over the garbage bags on the sidewalk from other businesses.
We do apologize for any inconveniences you faced during your stay. We hope you will give us another chance in the future.

My husband and i stayed here on our trip to get married in NYC. This hotel has everything, amazing breakfast, the best beds, views of the Empire State Building and easy access to food and shopping. The subway station is a short 5 minute walk away from the door. We stayed on the top floor and it was incredible to experience the rooftop bar at night and then stumble into our rooms a few short steps. The staff was incredibly nice and the price for a NYC hotel is amazing and worth it. Don't let the name of this place fool you, it is a one-of-a-kind hotel!!!!!

Room Tip: Explore rooms on the top floor. The views alone are worth it!
