“Well worth every dollar!”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

We went on our second whale watch, first one out of Ventura. The weather cooperated and the people involved with Island Packers made our trip a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We experience hundreds of Porpoises, Pelicans, Sea Lions, and a half dozen grey whales. A juvenile approached us very closely with Mom close behind. The exuberant youngster breached exposing the top third of the body. What a sight! I have never seen one so close! The crew was great and lingered for a while out with the whales a bit beyond our time. The porpoises "talked" to us and raced with the boat, surrounding us. What a treat!

“Like a Nantucket Sleigh Ride”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

My friend and I stood at the front of the boat on the way out to the Channel Islands for Whale watching - It was a wild bumpy ( fun ) ride although a little chilly - the Channel Islands are beautiful - we only saw a 4 0r 5 whales but on the way back we saw some pods of dolphins - it was worth it just to see the islands.

“valentine's cruise”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

This is the same as the regular harbor cruise that Island Packers offers only it was on valentine's day. FANTASTIC cruise. Great music, delightful appetizers, and good drinks combined with a full moon and a quiet harbor made for a perfect romantic cruise.

The woman naturalist on board was friendly and informative. We were surprised how many dolphins we saw.

“A ride from hell”
Reviewed 3 February 2014

When we boarded the Island Packers boat on a sunny and cold Saturday afternoon (Feb 1), we had no idea that the ocean was "choppy" and we would be trapped in a nightmare ride for the next 3 1/2 hours.

As soon as we left the protected harbor area, the boat was rocking like a bad roller coaster, where we had to be sited, holding to the bench in order not to just fly off our seats... and that hell of a ride didn't stopped for two hours.

I saw people falling, when they tried to move, a lot of people throwing up and little kids terrified holding to their parents. One of the crew members said "We have been in business for 45 years and we never had an accident". And of course they became greedy, since knowing the conditions of the ocean that day, wouldn't be wise to cancel the trip all together? Why subject a hundred people to this nightmare, knowing that we wouldn't see any whales on that kind of environment?

Luckily, we did see a bunch of dolphins for five minutes, but that was it. I saw pictures from other reviewers showing the arch and the light house... we didn't see any of that.

If I was informed what to expect before I board that boat, I would never had done it. My 76 years old mother in law, had severe back pains and nausea after this trip. We all were sick of our stomach afterwards.

Ask questions before boarding a boat from Island Packers, because obviously they don't care about theirs passengers well-being.
