I love Indian food so I’m always trying to find a good place to eat. I live in LA and I’ve been to several popular places and all Indian places in my neighborhood. When I travel to NYC, I make sure to check out one or two Indian places in the city too but I couldn’t find the place that I go, “yes, this is it!” I was staying in Ventura for a few days and I found this free Ventura restaurant guide magazine. The Taj Café’s ad seemed promising, so I’ve decided to have a lunch before I leave to LA. They had several lunch specials and the waiter suggested the masala special. I ordered that with lamb and a glass of Indian iced tea. First, they brought this nan with garlic and herbs that was delicious as it was. I usually don’t care about chutney, but oh boy, that was yummy. I love to try whatever its country’s drink when I eat ethnic food, so the Indian iced tea was right on with a hint of some kind of herb. Then the main dish came. Oh my god, finally I’ve found my place! It was the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted in the United States! The masala was absolutely delicious with tender and flavorful lamb. The green salad on the side had this mild curry dressing, and the lentil and potato dishes were also great. I was in heaven! It was so good I’ve decided to buy two complete lunches for my pet sitters back in LA. After every single thing came out from their kitchen tasted so great, I had to try their dessert. They told me their ice cream was real “home-made” as it says on the menu, so I ordered mango and ginger ice creams. The waiter apologized because they were melting, but it didn’t bother me. It was amazing! They didn’t fail me at all! I wish they’re in LA. But this place is definitely worth a trip for an hour and a half. I’ll just pretend that I’m stuck on 405 fwy. Excellent!
