“Good Place to Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2011

This Best Western was very nice and clean. The girl at the desk (Tory, I think) was friendly, and didn't mind when I requested a room change due to noisy children next door. The breakfast in the morning had enough variety for everyone. Good place to stay.

We appreciated this hotel for its proximity to the beach and Pier, about a 10 minute walk. Close to main Street where you will find nice antique and book stores. It gave us the opportunity to walk around, and we gathered that Ventura seems to be a quiet and safe town. We had a nice room and we also used the hot tub. Sort of nice in a not so warm weather. There is a nice little restaurant nextdoor where you can have a delicious fish & chips. The train did not bother us, probably because we were located closer to the front. The breakfast was great.

It's a great stay. Really close to main street, and we had a beach view. The staff was very friendly, and really helpful pointing out good places to eat, and things to see.
There was free internet, and it was a breeze to set up.

Great little place just off US 101 in Ventura. Easy walk to the beach and downtown, tons of restaurants in the area. Just a short drive to the Ventura Harbor (about 3 miles). There was a nice little park just across the street. The room looked like it had been recently updated especially the bathroom, which was small but very nice. I even had a little bit of a view of the ocean out of my window. Not a resort property but a nice place to stay with staff that really cares about the guests who stay there. When I checked in I was fortunate to get some really great information about what to do and where to go and how to get across 101 to the beach easily. Great place!

Didn't get an exceptionally cheap rate or anything, but if you're road tripping across the US and want somewhere cheap to stay for a night outside of LA then this is definitely for you. About 1hr w/traffic from Hollywood hills, and if you want to do big sur in a day from somewhere just south of SF like Monterey or Salinas this is do-able with stops too.
Standard amenities in room.
Great breakfast- make your own waffles, + cereals, cakes, toast, bagels, fruit, different coffees etc. Set us up for another day of driving well. Car felt safe in the car park too. Free internet and computers to use with free printing which was excellent.

My husband and I booked this room a month ago, while planning to get my son set up in his UCSB dorm. We didn't realize that the day we came there was a beer fest of some sort in Ventura, close to the Best Western. Almost immediately after checking in we realized the walls were very thin, as there was a noisy group of drinkers in the room next to us.

We also knew that area hotels and inns were packed, as we couldn't find a room in Santa Barbara ( an affordable room anyway) a month ago when we booked. It was check-in weekend for students at UCSB. So finding a new room wasn't an option.

The front desk was immediate in their response to my call about the loud group in the next room, which had escalated into a drunken brawl and we heard glass breaking. The police ended up hauling some of the people away, but I have NEVER had this experience before. Plus, even after they left we hated how clearly we could hear people around us- inside and out- and the train going by brought back memories of an old episode of "I Love Lucy"...

The beds are hard. Really uncomfortable. The tap water seems slimy, but I think it's soft water, and I know some folks prefer that. Ew.

In all fairness, I have to say that other than the train and nearby traffic noise, the location is great as far as closeness to the water. I usually love Best Westerns for their overall value and cleanliness- and the continental breakfasts which are provided- even a full cafeteria in the one in Martinez, CA.

Of all the Best Westerns I have stayed in- many over the years- this was my worst experience. Oh, and I've been awake since 3:45 as I write this: too noisy to sleep if you are a light sleeper.

I've stayed here about fifty times now in the last ten years and it's always been pleasant. The manager, Mr Carlos Cruz is always polite and helpful. I saw a review that mentioned "not being close to the beach." Well, that other reviewer must have become lost because between this hotel and the water there is the 101 fwy and the sandy beach. It literally takes about five minutes to walk across the pedestrian bridge to get to the beach and Ventura Pier. It's very close to Ventura's old downtown area where you can stroll along Main St. shopping the antiques and book stores or having yourself a nice meal. Also the San Buenaventura Mission is nearby too. The rooms are always nice and clean and I will continue to stay here in the future.
