We were accompanied by our two school aged grandchildren, as such we choose to view the short video prior to the tour. Great decision it brought real life to the museum and the battlefield. While climbing the ramparts they pretended to be engaged in battle! The whole reason for the trip was to ignite their love of history, mission accomplished!

This fell far short of our expectations. After visiting Mount Vernon the day before we wanted to know more about the battle and events surrounding it. There was no logical sequence to the exhibits which jumped from one topic to another. They even had a timeline that you had to read from right to left - so counterintuitive. The museum itself is very small - just a couple of rooms. The film was also pretty bad. There is a gift shop but no restaurant. Maybe the plush new facility will be better.

From Williamsburg it is only a short ride to the Victory Centre along the Colonial Parkway. It has indoor and outdoor exhibits. Starting with a walk through the outdoor garden/farm area we had an interesting and informative conversation with a Tobacco farmer. The buildings are well laid out and is the only place we have seen tobacco leaves being dried. To the rear of the museum there is a military campsite which shows how basic life could be for the soldiers. On into the museum, again very well laid out and you can follow the historical datelines very easily, try not to miss the maritime section A thoroughly enjoyable and educational place to visit

We enjoyed the indoor museum as well as the reenactment of the shooting of the cannons and guns. Interpreter was very informative and kept the small ones captivated. They are currently under construction but open.

Still some on-going construction but what a lovely, well-done museum! Very nicely laid out. We saw a great movie as well as explored the living history part of it. You'd think after 3 days at Colonial Williamsburg and a visit to Jamestown that it would be same old, but someone it wasn't. Yes, there were more military displays and another talk with a field doctor, but it was still very different and interesting. We learned something new at every station.
